This is the 2nd major loss to Russia after the fall of Soviet. Two neutral countries with high tech weaponry joining NATO is a major loss to Russia. @Kerberos Your Serbian countrymen were slaughtering the Albanians and in their ethnic cleansing they killed 10,000 Albanians. The NATO strikes caused the murderous aggression by Serbia to cease. It was an humanitarian effort on the part of NATO- not an attack to gain territory. Serbia was the largest component of the former Yugoslavia and it was entirely responsible for its attack on the people of Kosovo.
Was this needed as an adjunct due to Brexit? EU members have mutual security, so I’m assuming that this is a move to fill a potential void?

During Stalin era, he ordered Russian troops invading Finland. Although Finland won the war but 11% of its territory was grabbed by Russia. Now Russia is doing the same thing to Ukraine. No wonder Russia forces Finland to join NATO. Russia in the past wanted to join NATO but was rejected because Russia looked down on smaller NATO country and made unacceptable demands (ex: accept and recognize Russia the only superpower in Europe). Every time when you see Lavrov says "NATO countries aren't listening to us.", he actually means "you're not giving what we demand." Communists in Kremlin do not understand that respect is earned, not given.

Finland didn't actually win, it was more that USSR didn't really win either. Winter war was a similar poltical and military blunder to what we are seeing in Ukraine. USSR got away with it because there was much more going on in Europe, but Russia doesn't have the same smokescreen today.

NATO is an offensive alliance that can act outside UN. It has proven this by performing unprovoked aggression on Yugoslavia 1999. Finland joining NATO will increase Europe's security risks. Finland could've gone some different path that would ensure its safety without destroying its neutrality.
NATO did act in that case to stop the ethnic cleansing of Albanians in Kosovo which was also negatively affecting neighboring NATO countries. NATO acted in an humanitarian way to stop the genocide in which Yugoslavia (dominated by Serbia) murdered nearly 10,000 Albanians. And if you are saying that that was an act of aggression, look in the mirror and you might see the real aggressor as based on your name, and as a Serb you should be ashamed of the Serbian action in Kosovo Enough of your heartless nonsense.

So another seat holder that does nothing to contribute is in. If Ukraine were to get in Moscow would become vulnerable while Finland essentially has little ability to go on the offensive. Finland could at most pull together a couple thousand forces to invade that would be obliterated before they reached any important target. All while Hungary and Turkey are leaning closer to Russia possibly defecting within a few years.
Do you mean that Finland doesn't contribute in NATO? Finland has already taken part in many NATO operations, without even being a member. Military experts think that Finland would be an asset to NATO, for example Finnish army is one of the most capable considering arctic warfare, a skill which US army has shown a lot of interest to.
