That manager is really annoying. He calls the police on someone not breaking the law and doesn't even apologize. Then, after he finds out it's legal, he still expects you to comply with their unlawful policy.
He may be annoying but his employers have put him in a difficult position by having a policy that is not enforceable by law. People still believe that drones are ASBO devices that continually fall out of the sky, and form no part of aviation in general. That might have been the case a few years ago but no longer. A bit of re-education is required.

I would have expected the English Heritage to send out emails "Stop the shenanigans with the drone pilots" in the meantime. But they probably need to harvest oak galls to produce iron gall ink, then handwrite the notice and distribute via horseback riders to be historically accurate. (Edit: It's English Heritage here not NT)

It's about time the heritage was sent a memo that flying from public land is lawful over anything private etc. But you'd think with how many people do this someone would have seen these videos and say it's legal
They start off saying you cant fly at all, then when that doesn't work, they come back to try the "i dont want my image on You Tube" Its amazing how they think Heritage Policies apply to the public on public land.
I seem to remember seeing this place on a music video when I was very young, and thinking what a great place to explore. I think in the late sixties (possibly 1967) Procol Harum filmed their song, A Whiter Shade of Pale there.

These buildings and grounds are absolutely stunning, great work highlighting this. I hope the British public think about the wealth that was accumulated in times gone by to build such places, and where, or who, provided that wealth. Mostly it wasn't the blood sweat & tears of 'British' people, and now we realise that legacy. English heritage is doing a fine job preserving this, just stop trying to infringe on personal liberties to support a policy that's illegal.
Which one you choose? Option 1: go through proper channels, get written license, written liability insurance, permission from aviation authority, permission from heritage site, other paper work, complete risk assessment, pay the fee, wait to 2 weeks, possibly fly a drone. Option 2: definitely fly a drone straight away
It is quite clearly stated on English Heritage website that their rules around drones only apply to taking off and landing from their property. When they refer to drones taking off from outside their property, they only request that it is done outside of opening times. They clearly recognise they have no power to enforce any rules when operating from outside. This manager wasn't up to speed with his employers policy.
To the idiot who said "looks like you are going to be getting away with it". - Please go learn the law and respect the public far better than you just did. NOTHING was got away with, EVERYTHING he did was legal and above board. Even NT understand this, maybe you didnt get the memo.
