People still believe that drones are ASBO devices that continually fall out of the sky, and form no part of aviation in general. That might have been the case a few years ago but no longer. A bit of re-education is required.

Option 1: go through proper channels, get written license, written liability insurance, permission from aviation authority, permission from heritage site, other paper work, complete risk assessment, pay the fee, wait to 2 weeks, possibly fly a drone. Option 2: definitely fly a drone straight away

It is quite clearly stated on English Heritage website that their rules around drones only apply to taking off and landing from their property. When they refer to drones taking off from outside their property, they only request that it is done outside of opening times. They clearly recognise they have no power to enforce any rules when operating from outside. This manager wasn't up to speed with his employers policy.
There is no rule governing acceleration as such. Probably would try 'driving without due care and attention ' or maybe a fixed penalty notice for driving in a manner that could cause fear or alarm to other road users. (CD30)
Enjoyed this one a lot, to be fair I can understand both sides of the story. I think both of them are genuinely nice people but were doing their jobs. I think you were excorsing right to be there but I think he's more knowing now. These ladies were beautiful and lovely. Definitely want to visit next year. Just a add on, when you are facing the gardens the Ballroom is on your left, when we went into the Ballroom-we looked up and there was a shutter hanging loose and it was moving in the wind, except there was not a breath of wind !
These buildings and grounds are absolutely stunning, great work highlighting this. I hope the British public think about the wealth that was accumulated in times gone by to build such places, and where, or who, provided that wealth. Mostly it wasn't the blood sweat & tears of 'British' people, and now we realise that legacy. English heritage is doing a fine job preserving this, just stop trying to infringe on personal liberties to support a policy that's illegal.
