Back in the 90s when I was stationed locally, I don't think they had a visitor centre then. As you drove past on the A303 you could see all the stones clearly from the main road. Not sure about that now, as I haven't been near the place since way back.

I used to drive past this place along the A303 quite often in my Army days, going to and fro from Warminster. As for aircraft helicopters etc, they certainly fly over it. I've been in helicopters that have flown over it, got to see it for free 😂😂😂😂.

Whilst wind speed often increases with elevation, having things like mountains, cliffs and valleys causes more pain for unpredictable winds than a flat wide open field. I fly drones. I live in the Highlands. I've experienced it too often.
