I believe one survived. From age 7 to 40 I believed these guys were long dead until I found out our failing US prison system LIED about the raft found on Angel Island along with foot steps leading away. That really pisses me off. These three men deserve their freedom----Alcatraz failed!
He never said it closed in 1978, he said that in 1978 it became a national park, but as you say, Google told me that as a federal prison, Alcatraz closed its doors on March 21, 1963.
i know psychics are controversial but they had a show on tv where one went to the spot where the escapees jumped into the water and he said he feels that they drowned.
@psychediva yeah RFK closed alcatraz but it never stats that it was closed in 78'... it says the FBI returned the heads in 78', which by that point was a national park. the 35 that you say tried to escape might be counting the 4 who made this attempt or escape, the history channel may not have counted them. the show also never stats that they worked on license plates... it just says they only got outta their cells to eat shower and work. then showed file footage of the l. plates being made

@oh2sail He did`nt say it stopped being a prison in 1978 he just said the heads where returned in 1978 when it was no longer a prison.
Why would the three men want to escape?

What I believe, Morris drowned, seen floating outside the gate, and the brothers got picked up buy a waiting boat and lived happy ever after
