Actually, many bands have lead singers with glasses just like that today. Being a "nerd" or even looking like a "nerd" is actually a cool thing these days. Buddy Holly made that possible.
@della Yeah, as I've spending time here on You Tube remembering Buddy, Ritchie, and the Big Bopper, I saw that Tommy Allsup passed away in January of this year. Sorry for your loss. He was a great musician and a great human!
Buddy Holly was so cool back in his day. Today most kids would think he looks like a nerd. Such is the era in which we live.. RIP Buddy, you're still cool, and greatly loved!
Shortly after they were returned to his widow, Rolling Stone displayed them on a full page, inside back cover photo with his birth and death dates. It remains one of the most impactful rock photos I've ever seen - the realization that his wife recieved them in the mail 20+ years after the crash.
Kinda spooky the glasses were found the same year John Lennon was killed. A sad, early death just like his hero Buddy. The other items found in the envelope were a watch, cigarette lighter and pair of dice owned by the Big Bopper, which were returned to his son.

Buddy Holly 1st Rock and Roll performer to wear glasses on stage. Others would wear glasses on stage because it was Well Alright... to wear them on stage. Many individuals that weren't performers would wear Buddy Holly Glasses. In the movie "Batman vs Superman" Henry Cavill looked more like Buddy Holly than Clark Kent. Even Buddy Holly would influence what type of glasses Clark Kent would wear. Those type of glasses are still popular till this day. Buddy Holly was cool.
I've noticed that a lot of kids wear them today, In fact my nephew has a pair I refer to as Buddy Hollys and he asked me "Who is Buddy Holly???"and I tell him Buddy's story
Good thing his wife sold the glasses because after she passes what would have happened to them? They probably would have gotten lost somewhere or stolen. The glasses are in a safe place now where every one can see them. 💙👓🕊
Apparently, Holly and his gang were flying in Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis, if we're to believe the plane seen in this video! Those glasses held up fairly well when you consider the horrendous trauma Holly and the 2 thrown from the plane sustained. Crushed chest, large lacerations, multiple fractures of arms & legs, skull fracture and brain mostly removed by the impact is a very violent set of injuries.

For the record, the Big Bopper's body was thrown out of the plane on the first contact of the wing , the plane then cartwheeled some 150 feet, finally hitting a fence, where it rested and the bodies of Buddy and Richie Valens were expelled, the body of pilot Roger Peterson, was stuck inside of the mangled remnants, of the plane.
