- Well when the old ball launcher fails to get the drone out of the tree, there's no point f**king around any longer - just go straight to the retrieval experts! Had a great ole time out at the creek with Juddy & JD using their drones to try to recover the DJI Mini 2 from it's tenacious resting spot high in the sky. I really hope you guys enjoy this video, it's a bit of a nail biter especially if you've been following along with this drone story so far. Make sure you watch till the bitter end because the hits keep coming. Bloody brilliant adventure guys, thanks for sharing! FFS Josh, give little Maximus a well deserved birthday (Especially if it is to remain primary drone). I'd strip it, check/clean all connections/boards (a bit of dielectric grease couldn't hurt) and replace, if not at least clean/lube all the bearings/bushes. A full set of props would be appreciated by Maximus as well given the weathering to the originals and the fact these things aren't even meant to be water resistant. Congrats again. 🍻
Mate I've pulled these things apart in the past (to try and replace broken gimbals etc) and I think it's best if I just leave well enough alone. If I get another 6 months out of him I'll be happy 😎 Cheers bro

@MVDBR just a quick though, lipo batteries that got damp/wet are at a higher risk of catching fire while charging. Maybe it's worth charging the battery in the garage first few cycles. Had a lipo fire at home about 8 years ago, defo not fun.

Nice work team. Those old mini 2s are a good unit. The mini 3 pro WAS good with the extra battery life, but after DJIs update a year or so ago, it gets blown away by the wind easily, can hardly fly 500m away anymore and it loses signal if you go behind a spider web. The mini 2 has higher resolution video, 10x better range and signal, and smaller to pack both the unit and the remote. Unfortunately the pricks don't make them any more (the mini2 SE is a stripped down version not as good).
I bought the "Tile Pro" bluetooth trackers from amazon and taped to my drones. When you crash way out in the bush out of cell service, your phone will connect to it once you're 20-30m from it and make a loud noise to find it. I've crashed like that probably 10 times after DJI neutered the mini 3 pro with their updates and from props icing up in winter.
Yeah I saw someone else using one of those Bluetooth trackers, but I've discovered in the Fly app in the 'find my drone' part you can hit a button to make the drone lights flash and it makes a noise which would be quite handy 👌 But yeah very happy with the Mini 2, if only it had some basic obstacle avoidance it would be a lot better and might not have gotten stuck in that tree lol. @@MVDBR Right the find my drone is a good idea but it doesn't work when the drone or remote battery dies or when the drone gets disconnected when it falls down in the forest. After a crash and spending a good 4 hours hiking and then searching in 2 feet of snow one day I started using the bluetooth trackers lol.
I wouldn't get too excited about obstacle avoidance. Could have helped likely in your specific situation, sure. Personally I have it switched off 99% of the time, not sure if others like it?
@@jetmuchacho yeah true I always had it switched off on my previous drone, the Air. But they seem to have made it a fair bit better in these newer drones from what I've seen... nowhere near Skydio levels yet but slowly getting there 😬 And yeah you're right about the dead battery etc, would have worked well in my case there tho 🤙

I was just thinking today about your drone progress. This was an awesome saga. Too bad they dont come with a hi viz yellow paint and a blinking LED on the bottom. Full power drone commander! Epic!
I've since discovered that in the "find my drone" part of the app you can press a button to make the drone start beeping, very handy in that situation at the end there hopefully I'll remember it if it happens again 😁 cheers

What a good time, great bunch of guys, this is what it is all about .... much love..... Quick question... any short cuts to fix a flat in the bush? Did you ever use some of these emergency products? Slime etc... they work .... or just pump the tire every few miles... or no short cuts... need to replace or patch a tube ? Thanks
I've never used Slime type stuff man but I've really only had a couple flats in my time thankfully, one time I just kept stopping to pump it up now and then (that was on the 500 EXC) and I remember changing a tube one time. I feel like there might have been more times but it's mostly been changing tubes for other people haha. I check my pressures religiously before every ride tho so I think that helps.
