I really enjoyed this good sir! I tried it on a spoon carved from cotton wood bark, a little to soft for some of this detail but it’s alright for the first try. Thanks again cheers! 🤙🏻👊🏻
Thanks Dave, that was great fun. It would be very helpful if you could hold the carving completely still at each stage so we can pause the video and work till it looks like yours (ho ho I wish!)
17:17 hello !
those random talks u have while u carve, i like those small stuff u say, its comforting, like u said nothing is perfect, so the carve doesnt really HAVE to be perfect, a little defect is okay lol, it is something very minor but, like me, it could make someone feel a bit better about this
Great vid. Just whittled my first thing today - A Mushroom! Not great but it was fun to do. Is there a brand of U gouge you would recommend from Amazon? Thank you. 🦉
Thats awesome well done! As for gouges, if you're on a budget, most of the cheap unbranded sets will do you well for a while but the dont hold sharpeness well and are phones to chipping. If you want to spend a little more though, you can never go wrong with flexcut, go for the starter sk travel set to give you a feel.
@@SpoonsandSpirits thanks v much for the recommendations. I'll keep an eye out for them. I probably should make sure i'm into it before splurging for the flexcut set. Happy to be a dirt rider for a while. Starting out with a SAK and Opinel 4 and 5! Hope your well out there! 👋
unreal bro, you are such a great guy!! My first carving owl, a little bit of a mess, but hey I will do a 100 a week, and as you say its not the result its the great time we spend doing it!! . Thanks for the tutorial!! Regards from the Canary Islands.
this is so cool! do you think wooden dowels, like from craft stores, would be a good wood for whittling? i'd be interested to see a video on that. they're so skinny....
@@SpoonsandSpirits excellent job but as for them gloves they are great stopping you doing surgery on your self but not of tip bites you I had random idea see if my air rifle would go through them answer was nope gloves stopped the air gun slug quite impressed 😂👍🦊🐾🇮🇹🇬🇧

👋
Do you happen to know the size and sweep of the U gouge?
I'm not sure as it was from a cheap set which has since broken but to hazard a guess I'd say it was a #9 approx 0.75 cm
Really enjoyed watching your video 🤩 definitely going to be trying to carve a Owl🦉 🥰🥰🥰
Keep up with the great work 👍

Craft store wood works well as long as it's not balsa wood, but you have given me an idea for a video thanks! Watch this space ...
