just wanted you to know your owls were a big hit. i gave them to veterans that i take care of. the smiles were well worth it. they loved them. you cheered up many guys in need of cheering up. thank you
I really like how you show carving with just a single knife and maybe some paint or oil. It makes getting started much easier without having to take out a loan. Thanks!
Doug, your 1x1 series are a blast. I know I’m late watching this one, but I’m slowly but surely catching up on the series. All the birds singing in the background are the icing on the cake. 👍🏼
I just want to say thanks for putting these videos up i think it helps plenty of newbies get into carving myself included it was one of your videos that got me carving i love them 👍🏻😊
Thank you for this video. Big big help!! My grandpa used to whittle peanuts characters. I was looking for a hobby i remembered my grandpa and i got some gear but totally didn't know where to start. Im also a bird nut and so i really appreciate your video.
Doug, you are such a great teacher! I enjoy how you show the finished carved piece as you along, it is so helpful in understanding what to do next. I also enjoy your calm demeanor...I could listen to you for hours...
Doug hi, well you did it again tickled the creativity in me . I was going to make knife guards , now I can make a Parliament different roles. Thanks again for being such a great mentor . 👍🇺🇸😇
As always great stuff! I like to make quick carvings that don't require painting and I give them away to the children that come to my workplace. Can you please do more of these minimalist carvings?! I've learned to love carving from your videos so please keep them coming.
The original owl carving is one of my grandkids favorites. The really like when I paint them in colorful paint. As part of your 1x1 series is like to see a refresher course on painting them... I've taken lots of notes from your painting videos but it would be nice to see your latest process for these little guys.
Another little gem, I carved two of your old owl carvings and love both of them. Definitely going to try one of these. Thanks so much for this tutorial Doug.
I just started carving last week and finding your channel and your 1x1 series have given me lots of great instruction and inspiration, along with achievable projects for a beginner. Thanks for your channel!
Just happened across your Chanel. Blew my mind. Made my day. And I binged a bunch. So peaceful. I was having a bad day and this made me forget everything. Thanks a million
Hello Doug, thank you for sharing your skill and wisdom. I really like your teaching style and if nothing more, just like to watch you create carvings. I'm 64 years old but not too old to learn. I made me a knife from an old sawblade that works quite well, but will order a commercially made knife anyway. With the help of your videos, I managed to make some wooden critters that are quite popular for birthdays and holidays. So thank you again! Cheers from Oregon - Peter
I carved many of your first owl great fun. I struggle with these small ones because of my hands but it just takes me longer and I leave the wood long until I’m done just a lot of fun. Thank you
Your original owl was my first carving project ever, 3 years ago and it really got me into this awesome hobby. Thanks Dough! I find the new version has a giant beak for an owl 😅 I still love it, and I'm looking forward to many more videos in your 1x1 series, best thing ever!
I played around with the length, made some really short ones, some tall and slender (of the "original" one). The new one is simplified (the steps), if I'm not mistaken, but it looks really cute!
Loving these 1×1 vids, I have a lot of it and not much else at the moment. 🤣 I quite like using sweet chestnut wood when I can find any thats being trimmed back, makes for easy carving when it's green.
Awesome follow along tutorial. Thanks. I had a hard time seeing the detail at times, I think the focus was off sometimes. I really appreciate how you paused to show the profile in between steps.
Happy Canada Day Doug. I caught your One by One bug. I just retired, and now I can't put the knife down. I'm designing all different kinds of subjects. Thanks again for your instruction.
Hi Doug. My phone was lost in my car so I couldn't comment yesterday. I Did see the video on the BIG SCREEN 😂😂 GREAT carving and fantastic video as usual. Thanks and stay safe.
watching it with the sound down with headphones on in silence is great as you are totally focused on the moves not the language, and you concentrate better. I also find that playing COD with the sound down I play better. Call of Duty.
Gr8 tutorial... as usual. My one complaint is that the majority of the video seems slightly out of focus. Hope that's something that can be corrected in future videos; although it is possible the focus issue might just be my tired old eyes;-). Your manner is so comfortable, yet informative, it makes even the beginner carver feel they can accomplish the task. Thanks for the inspiration!
As always your video tutorials are the best. One question: why doesn't UA-cam translate your speech into Italian anymore? I'm glad that you are now also cooperating with WCI. A thousand thanks
What about general guidelines for starting measurements conversions to convert 1x1 series measurements for 1 1/2x 1 1/2 or 2x2. Old (83+ arth) hands have problems with size of 1x1. Greatly enjoy your videos!!
Great job and well done! Have you ever used the carving knives from Warther’s Museum and knife store in Dover, Ohio? Ernest “Mooney” Warther was an amazing master carver and was a genius with the carving knife!

You have to do it yourself. Tap the screen and a little cc in a square will pop up. Tap it. It will give you subtitle options.
@@susanp.collins7834 Thank you, but to some videos this doesn't work...
Can you please link where you bought your knife?
fun fun fun Thanks 🔪

Greatly enjoy your videos!!
I have another video on the larger owl
Like it. 👍 👍
What type of ruler is that?
Great job and well done! Have you ever used the carving knives from Warther’s Museum and knife store in Dover, Ohio? Ernest “Mooney” Warther was an amazing master carver and was a genius with the carving knife!
I have the complete set of Warther Knives they are definitely my go to knives
@@danmack56 They are the best! I actually met Mooney when I was on a field trip in the 5th grade.
His carvings are truly masterpieces!
Hey Doug really goofy question, for you. what is the name of the ruler you are using, I've looked around and can't find one. Thanks James
