    So funny! Plays on the ever-present "I think they are talking about me" thing when people hear another language they don't know. Of course, in this case... she was! But it was all for a good cause... ha ha.

    The premise of this film was quite clever. I actually have a copy of the green book that the lady bought in the bookstore. The cover is worn, and there are a few notes inside, but all the pages are there and it is quite useful. My sisters are interested in genealogy and we have at least one Irish ancestor. Other than that, the family tree is quite diverse, with relatives from the British Isles, Germany, Italy, Greece, Spain, and Poland. My father’s first language is a minority language in northeastern Italy called Friulian, which is in the same category of Romance languages as Rumantsch and Ladin.

    No....this is Irish.....which is a form of Gaelic (along with Scottish Gaelic and Manx). It is not derived from Latin. It is a Celtic language, which, like Latin, is Indo-European.

    Even for speaking another language, that receptionist wasn't being subtle AT ALL! She was look right at them and laughing. I don't think you need to speak the language to know what she's on about.

    Interesting. I noticed some words similar to other European languages. That is why I grouped our nations and cultures into a group of "Albarian" nations and cultures: Baltic, Celtic, Germanic, Slavic.
    For example similar:

    sechs Monate/six months

      Our language is still alive, but it is not spoken as widely anymore. During the Irish famine, most of the Irish speakers died or emigrated which impacted the number of speakers. I don't understand what you mean by "Are we English right now"? Are you asking if we speak English? If so, yes - we speak English. But also some of us (like me) speak Irish also.
