"The names will change, but the greed will stay the same". How prophetic that sentence was in 2008, for what was to come.

@Conjoh Ly How, in my comment, did I belittle the famine? I made reference to when the film was made. The words were most likely written in 2006, when this country was 'booming'. When we get rid of the English, all will be better, was Ignatius's belief. Well, the English are gone, almost a hundred years now. The names changed and Irish people are being evicted. As Myles said, Greed, indeed did, stay the same.

Its shocking, still very little of the population speak Irish and all the place-names are anglicised. Is náire iomlán é, ba chóir dúinn a bheith ag labhairt ár dteanga dhúchais gach lá, sa bhaile, sa siopa, leis na comharsana. Ní teanga a thug ionróirí Gaill chun tailte íon

The Irish language sounds really badass. Irishman with a kukri, I like this combo.

This is as important now as it was when made.
The greed is still the same.
Great piece of film, thank you.

Great to see the origins of BLACK ‘47 expressed so clearly - tonally, narratively and visually- in this potent short film.

Black 47 brought me here, didn t know this was made before. And this scene is artistically much stronger than the new remake.Respect to the Director and the actors.A shame hollywood is plagiating everything.

The Wikipedia article for Black 47 says that the people who made this, An Ranger, also worked on Black 47.

@@StephenGraves Turns out I'm not in luck! lol. Black '47 couldn't even do a good job of the scene in this film, let alone the whole feature:( It fails to get you emotionally invested in the protagonist's goal, to sympathise with him. Don't want to spoil anything but it misses out big time! So much tension and suspense here! and you discover viscerally along with the hero just how bad things have been for his family whilst he was away, Black '47 doesn't really do that. I'm genuinely really disappointed seeing this great short film again and what potential there was at a feature film adaptation:(

@@richardadesmond black 47 does it more through visual representation than exposition. The protagonist barely speaks but I think his dark past was, I felt, represented well through environmental storytelling. It's also more focused on his revenge and perceived sense of justice than on him as an individual. But I agree that they could have done a bit more to you invested in him. Also, it is focused just as much if not more on Hugo Weaving's character.

"Ach cén difríocht a dhíona é sin? B'fhéidir go n-athróidh na hainmneacha, ach beidh saint i gcónaí ann." - And what difference would that make? Maybe the names will change, but greed will always exist.
