SSL 611EQ->Elysia Mpressor 500->Bettermaker Mastering Limiter before the limiter I may insert a post comp EQ if I aim for the mids than it is the API 550b if I want to polish my top end till it shines than it's the KUSH Clariphonic, or if it is an in the box mix with too sterile parts a Neve 542 will inject some vibe and softens the digital edges a bit. I've looked this SPL BIG as it is affordable and gets fast results but at the end I've found out that my work prefers the color options in real hardware more than a stereo imager PS.: only your audio demos beat the video production quality, very well done, Thank You so much!

@@phable I do mastering for living and I have different types of clients, some over do the highs some do the opposite, Clariphonic is very good at opening up mixes. I used to do this with an old Aphex Aural Exciter Type C, but it sounds quite old now and doesn't work the same as the Kush. Kush is a paralel EQ it means you can literally lift as much as you want without the side effects. I use it in mid/side all the time. Helps lot in spacing this way when mixing. I have a demo on my channel showing the tricks I used to do with it :) Pro tip: get the 500 version if you aim for hardware because mid/side routing can be done in the box and the price is much better ;) anyway the plugin gets you the same results without the analog fattening up side effect which can be an advantage. I show this too in the demo video as I too look for these :)

I know this is not the most scientific way of explaining what it does to my ears, but it's soooo pleasing. The sound stage with it is so much more invigorating I can't help but feel engrossed by how the sounds are spread.
Came here after listening to Dark Side of the Moon album and holy moly mother of god! This thing absolutely sounds BIG, like a console soundstage! Clean and huge! Wow!
I hope you can demo it with a song with vocals if you ever have the time. Really curious to hear how the phasing will affect the intelligibility of the singing.
Vocals are always tricky on UA-cam due to copyright laws. Surprisingly, on single vocal sounds it is not that interesting, but on a whole mix, you can really position the vocal in the mix.
@@phable yes i was wondering about all the elements at the center of the mix, vocals for example. Do you think it would be interesting to put it at the beginning of the mix processing ?
Der Padsound ab 4:50 erinnert mich an meinen leider verkauften Prophet 08. Und krass wie die einzelnen Instrumente von dem Big profitieren. Teilweise erst richtig wahrnehmbar dadurch, räumt auf das Teil.
Wenn ich mich recht erinnere, war das ein Sample aus meinem Akai. Der Prophet ist definitiv ein tolles Instrument ! Der BiG ist wirklich großartig. Macht viele Trackings und Mixdowns deutlich einfacher. Und vor allem sehr sauber bei der Phase!
The only thing I’m not loving about this is the hi-hat. I already have trouble taming hats, and this kinda seems to accentuate them. Otherwise it sound’s really great.
I must be in the minority, I think it is messes the stereo image up in an unpleasant way. I have listened to multiple demos. I think I’d prefer creative stereo options in the box
I bought that one, Ruin the mix hahha, so harsh and vocal gone away, the reverb gain up also. I return mine to the local store here and get money back in 24 hours only
the best way to use it is to run JUST the instrumental bus through it, then print it back into your DAW then put trackspacer on it on light settings then sidechain your mono vocal into the track you printed. makes the whole track sound huge but the vocal stays centered and focused

I have the spl big, sounds grate but not to grate on hard pan intruments. Need to be like 50% left (or right) to feel the openness.

Sorry to hear that. Though it sounds a little bit like phase issues in your mix. Have you checked that?
