Were the two green marbles from Codd bottles? Striking butterfly pin! COLGATE toothpaste is infamous in the states. I used it as a toddler. Now, 73. Still use it. Love your finds and upcycling! Thank you! Stevie from AZ, only 102f today. God Bless you, Si
I love the shoe buckle. I used to go fishing there during the 1970s when I was a kid. I never would have thought all those items would have been there, but thinking about it, millions of people have obviously passed through, lived in London over the centuries. Well done!
The "coin that was pressed into a weight" is from someone making a silver ring. You hammered the edges of the coin, always rotating, until it broadened out. Eventually you'd cut out the center and smooth it. You could also do it in reverse with a small thin silver coin- bore a hole in the center, then push rods through it and open up the hole.

Lovely finds Si. Could you hear me screaming at my computer "That's NOT a shoe buckle!"? LOL! Glad you sorted it out. The buckle book by Whitehead is a real friend to detectorists. Keep the great videos coming and happy hunting, Dave.
Gosh what a great nocturnal hunt, and so pretty by the bridge - and despite your misgivings, Si, you (& Rich) found some wonderful things. Fantastic! 😉🎥🌟
Excellent discoveries gentlemen. Favorite are Military Cap Badge and buckle. Coins are also crazy cool and the hair curlers is first I have seen discovered. This starlight hunt is better than almost every day hunt I have had the pleasure of viewing. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic night hunt! The bridge is just beautiful! The wig curler I knew! Learned about them from watching mudlarking vids. The buckle was the star of the night! Well done!
The "finds"are always great- but something about these finds feels extraordinary. Maybe it is the collective age or the rarity that makes then feel special.
Si, that was a very interesting hunt! Rich has some really nice finds as well. Beautiful bridge, and I love the sign to "break step", so there is no rhythmic pounding of feet (with boots) that could shake the bridge.
Terrific finds! Awesome badge! Would be interesting to see..oh maybe a coin, buckle, pipe , badge and possibly a pencil. sketch from the same time period in a framed display. Would be like showing how life was at the time. Beautiful night video! Would love to take some still shots of the river n boats and bridge at night! ☺
Love all your videos. I have learned so much watching them. I immediately knew it was a wig curler! Keep up with the great finds (and videos) and luck in the muck!
Si, you and Rich have found remarkable finds. Does the London Museum even purloin items for the museum? Do you sell the coins that are out of circulation or that are old coins-- Victorian or Jacobean or Roman? I know that some of the coins are worn, but still they must have some value for having lasted so long... Also, with all the lead that you find are you in any danger from lead poisoning?
Really enjoy your channel, camera work is amazing, so clear like being there. The snake buckle was used by the south during the Civil War 1861-1865. Really neat finds and you guys are lucky enough to have so much history under your feet. Thanks for sharing
wow! that honorable artillery co. badge is AWESOME!!! i think fate misunderstood richs comment; "i need 2p" so you even find stinkin lincolns over there. that horse must be a tolkien fan....because hes leg o less
Simon, I enjoy your videos so much! Love your personality and how you interact with your friends, and how comfortable you are in the mud. You have such knowledge of your finds. I’m wondering what you do in your day job and if it ties in with your mudlarking? Thanks!
There is so much I enjoy about your videos, from your artistic intro to seeing what your finds look like after cleaned and your magic restoration. What happened with the bottle lid that you thought might be silver?
Not sure, but the first coin looked like an Ottoman Coin to me. Loads of different ones out there and there’s some good sites to help identify them. Loving your vids - recently subscribed and can’t wait to watch as soon as you post something. (Discovered you via Nicola and only found out what mud larking was about 2 weeks ago - absolutely hooked).
Love watching your channel. Thinking of buying a metal detector. Could you recommend a decent stater and how do you get permission. I'm totally new to all of this mate.🇬🇧
Watching this as the blood-red sun rises over the fields outside my window and I'm slurping my cold coffee after feeding the small doglet, four cats and a schoolboy then making the schoolboy's HUGE packed lunch (my child has the body of an eleven year old but the stomach of Godzilla). Happy Thursday Mudlovers!

Coal was burnt at a "gasworks" to extract the flammable gas. This was then stored and distributed for "gaslights" on the street and in homes. Gas was used to light homes up until the 50's in the UK. Coke was the left overs from the coal burn but because it wasn't fully burnt could still be used for heating in a stove. Needed to be added to a coal fire as it was hard to light from scratch but it held together well and gave good heat. Ah, the old days.
I always think you are saying, “Hello My Lovers”, instead of mudlovers, hahahaha. It sounds damn good.

Well done!
One of my 6th great grandfathers arrived in the colonies aboard a prison ship in the mid 1700s to work on a tobacco plantation.
Great finds Si and Richard, I will keep watching...👍
James McKenzie Hi James! Thanks for watching. Will see you out one day I’m sure...!
Look forward to it buddy, happy mudlarking..👍
The Royal Artillery cap badge belongs to the Honourable Artillery Company [HAC].... one of the oldest volunteer Regiments.
Always fun to see the treasures you discover Si.

Beautiful backdrop, gorgeous finds from you both, that buckle though!

Honorary Artillery Company i think still in Moorgate. City cricket pitch is there.it was always known as the Hac when i lived round the corner.
The "finds"are always great- but something about these finds feels extraordinary. Maybe it is the collective age or the rarity that makes then feel special.
Outstanding night finds!
Si, that was a very interesting hunt! Rich has some really nice finds as well. Beautiful bridge, and I love the sign to "break step", so there is no rhythmic pounding of feet (with boots) that could shake the bridge.
Mary Degenkolb Hi Mary, thanks for watching. Yeah you got it, I’d love to see their faces when they first marched over it and it started shaking! Haha
On my list to get a permit and then book a holiday in London or stop in Essex with my Mam and train to the river every day! Great finds Si
Alex Carle Thanks Alex!!

Gary Mozingo Cheers Gary, yes that snake design was very popular. Hard to date precisely but the man from the museum gave Rich a positive ID.

Feel better, Man-in-the-Hat !
Simon, I enjoy your videos so much! Love your personality and how you interact with your friends, and how comfortable you are in the mud. You have such knowledge of your finds. I’m wondering what you do in your day job and if it ties in with your mudlarking? Thanks!
Leone Dolliver thanks for the kind words. I’m actually a Graphic Designer 🙂
Clearly the most precious things are always lost during the night.
Stunning finds lads.
Another winner! Very entertaining and informative. I know you have your required permit - have you ever been accosted and asked to show it?
Nice hunt with good finds
TomCat
Another quality video Si, thanks for posting :)
Ollie Sanders Cheers Ollie!
Awesome, didn't know that you could have success with your detector in the dark!
Lol...did you find a "pee"! How appropriate...lol
There is so much I enjoy about your videos, from your artistic intro to seeing what your finds look like after cleaned and your magic restoration. What happened with the bottle lid that you thought might be silver?
Thanks for the kind word. The lid was silver plate, so looked just the same as when found, too many other finds stole the show...
Your videos are the best mate, thanks for Sharing 👍☘
Another great trip down history Larking Lane. Thank you Si-Finds. The HAC cap badge cleaned up well, barrelling or electrolyses?
Cheers Chris - electrolysis mate
Blooming predictive text... I knew it was electrolysis 😂
How many coins n such have you found so far? Since you started mudlarking?
fourteen years ago I went mud larking on that starch of the river.

Will you take me mud larking when I visit your beautiful country
I wonder if that Georgian copper coin was an attempt at making a coin ring mate?
Silvar Hunter yes maybe! A bored sailor perhaps... we will never know, but the fun is imagining the stories behind such finds....
It’s so interesting that England had money all ready to send to the “colonies” but no one has ever found any in USA.
Wasn't the word coke another word for coal? I'm not sure where I've heard that from, could be wrong.
Deluk Great knowledge there my friend!
I though he was West Country because they say, 'hello me lovers'
Great vid :-)
A bit late, but a Georgian wig curler?
You ask a man having a pee if he as found a hot spot? 😅
Ask his wife. 😉
LOLOLOL
your friend found an american penny and said i dont know what that is... i thought everyone knew an american penny they are worthless lol.
❤
Have you ever been so English that you mudlark in and around your own urine? Solid effort. Greetings from DK
❤️❤️❤️
👍

I went through this video about 5 times and never heard one mention of a rare American plantation coin, not happy.
