    A very well deserved distinction for this gifted young lady. Exams are nerve racking for many, if not most, of us, and I feel she performed with assured self-confidence. It's so easy to make the occasional slip when under pressure, such as in the C minor scale. But lovely playing. Congratulations, Liadain!! A super examiner, too, it must be said. Thanks for uploading.

    Excellent initiative. This is really helpful.
    It would be great to see the music for the theory and aural parts. It would be more beneficial for a viewer to be able to see what the student sees, so we can try to answer along.
    Also, a mock up results + comments sheet, to let the viewer know what the student did correctly and how they scored. I'm sure Liadain got a good distinction!!! Excellent playing! Thanks again!

    • @RIAMExamsIreland
      @RIAMExamsIreland  7 років тому +4

      Hi Paul, all the music from the theory and aural parts are taken from our sample aural test books, that are available to buy, that way they are pieces that the student can try themselves with their teacher. I can give you the page number if that helps?
      We won't publish comments for a student because it wouldn't be fair. We are so grateful to Liadain for being our mock student, and for Joshua who did the Grade one exam, but we feel that they have done enough! You are right, this would be a distinction performance.

    At the time 2:33 the examiner requests a melodic minor form of C minor, however, the candidate plays the harmonic form of C minor, this should have been noted by the examiner and replayed properly so other students don't get confused.

    My examiner, he was cold. Not warm like the lady here. I passed with Merit in grade 5 years ago. 3 marks away from Distinction. I was just a teenager but as an adult with even more determination than ever before, I could get those extra 3 points I'm certain.

    • @pxter
      @pxter 3 роки тому +1

      I think you mean 3 marks off an Honors, because it goes pass, merit, honors, and then distinction.
      But yeah, a lot of the time, you could do the same performance in front of different examiners and they'll mark you higher or lower.

    I used to do Trinity College until Grade 3 but changed to Royal School of Music from Grade 4 due to my 1st teacher moving. The examiner also has to be a good piano player they don't just sit there and mark you. I'm from NZ. My 1st exam was when I was 7. RS is easier than Trinity. There is an Australian school but they're easier than RS and not well recognized. I'm from NZ.

    Hi - amazing playing - I wondered as I notice 2 things - she does not seem to sight-read the first two pieces and I always find myself torn between playing from sight-reading and playing from memory - which is the better and is it counter productive to try do both ? Also I notice the height of the sheet music stand as I think I did my grade 4 on this piano and the height really threw me - its so high - far higher than a lot of other pianos....how do we prepare for such as it could easily be a foot lower on other pianos...any advice please on these points?? as with nerves at an all time high these distractions pull at the mind, I certainly dont have the calmness and composure Liadhain has , Congratulations to her. Wish I could play so well.

    • @jojoanne1571
      @jojoanne1571 5 років тому

      It's good to be able to do both sight read and then comes with fluency the ability to memorise section or the whole piece. Important to note that everyone is different with their own strengths and weaknesses. However if you want something and work hard on it you will get there.. never give up on dreams.. quitters never win and winners never quit!
      Yes its important to prepare for boot being set any level. If possible get experience playing different pianos. Perhaps a friend or some people you know has a piano and if you ask they may let you play their piano a while for pretend exam.

    Is there a time limit between grading?
    For Example: If I passed Grade 1 would I have to wait a certain amount of time before doing Grade 2, and so on.
    It's just that I am an expert Piano Player, where I've recently thought about getting a Job (possibly as a Piano Teacher), and I think being a Grade 8 Piano Player would help, it's just don't want to wait 10 years or so trying to get to Grade 8.
    Also would it be possible to jump straight to Grade 8.
    By the way, I have been playing for 2 years, I picked it up quite quickly and I can play anything, I don't want to call myself Mozart, but I'm up there somewhere.

    • @RIAMExamsIreland

      +Charlie Charlie,
      "after 2 years you can play anything", "Something tells me you're having a bit of a laugh".
      You do realise there is a difference between the words "anything" and "everything", yes I can play anything, most things I can learn by ear, depending on how many notes there are and the tempo etc I may need the sheet music in front of me, and for the more challenging stuff I may need time to practice, so if giving a full day to practice for the more challenging stuff then I more or less in that day can master it.
      "Well maybe you should consider a career as an international concert pianist rather than a teacher"
      It's definitively an option, but I'm more of the simple life kind of guy, I have been told by many friends I should apply for Britain's Got Talent.
