If it wasn't called DefJam Icon and called Rap Icon or Rap Mogul or something like that I think it would have been better received. I don't think it would have got better scores, but I think It would have been easier to forgive its flaws.
@@somekindarobot I've said that for years, if it didn't follow up on FFNY (which was hard enough even in 2007) I may have been less hated as a def jam game
I think it was hated because of Def Jam Fight For NY comparisons which is the best one imo but Def Jam Icon is fun & my second favorite

The hate came from it not building off of the excellence of previous game like FFNY did, I will always applaud innovative ideas Icon was different I give it credit. But it tried to do too much too quickly which made it feel like an entirely different game than the last. Good video overall though!
@@christonmoore701 thank you! I will say the hate is arguably justified. And I think it should have been FFNY updated on PS3/360 but even though the game is BAD I still love it for what it is

What's weird is I would always see this game at Gamestop on sale or on a shelf at a friend's house but never saw gameplay or anything. Thought it was some kind of GTA clone for some reason because GTA became so popular that all you had to have was some sort of hip pop or street gang theme and I thought it was the new Saint's Row lol. Anyway, this game looks pretty goofy, and is that screen tearing on a console? Gross, there's no V-sync settings either...
I thinks it's because around this time video games where focusing so much on realism this game is an example of that by making it a slow & realistic fight night knockoff instead of the fast fun arcadey style of Vendetta & FFNY obviously i cant stand this game because of how it killed the series
Loved this game for the graphics mainly at this time this showed off what the ps3 was capable of.

The comment you made about EA being better than that had me LMFAO this is absolutely something they would do with a property that made them money before 😂. Greedy bastards, if this sold well they would have rode it into the group with shittier versions then can the devs who worked on it. And probably wanted to make a good game so I won't ever shit on them for this game but i grew up on the first two and i remember being really disappointed when this dropped 😕. But EA, not saying you don't know they're shit it just made me laugh, they're so bad at managing game franchises that aren't a sport and even that's debatable. If they dropped another entry for DJ today it'd be riddled with micro transactions, a hollow story if we're lucky and very likely a season pass that's not worth what one would spend on it, I have no faith in them I was a dead space fan lol
