    You guys have NO IDEA how many new RC pilots you have brought into the hobby! Not to mention the inactive RC pilots that are now dusting off their old equipment, and coming back to a long lost love. I flew for years, all the way up to quarter scale (& even a bit larger) aerobics, 3-D, warbirds & sport flyers. I left when Spektrum had just introduced the ONLY 2.4ghz transmitter, which I bought, but the vast majority of flyers were on FM (& even a few still on ancient Kraft AM!) Also, electrics were just entering LiPo batteries & brushless motors, but most electrics were "profile" planes from balsa & monocoat kits, or small "foamies" that were useless in any winds over 5-10 mph. My point is, I am finding out that "my hobby" is a whole new world! No longer does it take 2 weeks pay and 6 months of Sundays to build & fly with your buddies! $100 & an afternoon will get you in the air! Pretty cool! Keep up the good work. See you at the field!

      Haha Im flying on LTE modem and have unlimited range with FPV view with my parrot disco drone... I had a flight of 10 KM already but I could go for 50+ KM with my upgraded batteries... Some dudes are posting good batteries on auction sites that are new and half the price, I bought 10.000 mahz for a very cheap price. This is like a ultimate wet dream of every old school RC to have a plane with unlimited range lol and such cool features from the controling APP, GPS etc.

      As a kid in the early 80s in cemtral Florida while our Dad would fly RC at the local field,( cow pasture) My older Brother and I would saw the noses off our super loop styro gliders and slap an 049 on there we scavenged from our crashed Cox control line planes. Not knowing squat about weight and balance we made some cool high speed Lawn Darts and a few that flew well we had to chase for miles....great memories. Thanks Guys!

      What is the plane called, like what would I look for at the store to find this glider.
      Edit: I looked online and found out it is called the Sky Riders Foam Glider. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
      Edit 2: I also found a smaller 24" version called the White Sky Glider sold on the Hobby Lobby website for $6.99, made by Maui Toys. I was looking a bit more online while writing this and Maui Toys also owns the bigger Sky Rider Gliders.
      Edit 3: I bought a 24" one and they are both called Sky Riders.

      1+ on the CG bit. Look up how to find CG based on % of MAC(Mean Aerodynamic Chord) in detail - It's theoretically a bit math heavy, but there is a fairly simple Graphical way to do it if you have a simple constant chord or single taper wing. Here's a link to a quite straight forward recipe n this graphical method I found on the net: moleski.net/rc/pix/calc-MAC.png . You can simplify it a bit to find approximate CG for an existing wing by simply laying the wing on a large piece of paper and then just draw around it as described in the pic.

      Lalith, if you can't order it, make it yourself! It is easier to buy it ready to transform, but foam planes are easy to make. The best glue is the German Uhu Por, a contact glue that does not chemically attack the foam (which is expanded polipropilene, but there are alternatives. Look at this forum from your own country: www.rcindia.org/tools-materials-and-building-techniques/about-white-depron-foam/25/?wap2

    Love your shop. I've been thinking of doing this for a while. My thought on these gliders was a pod mounted engine, and with CG being so far aft, I think it makes even more sense now.

    Dang! I see these planes at the store all of the time. Every time I ask myself if I could RC it, or more accurately, should I RC it. Now that I know how inherently stable they are, I'm gonna go for it. I'd like to go differential but I just don't have the cool laser-cut housings. I'm off to the store to get some foamboard and a few planes! Thanks dudes!

  • @AlienRelics

    I love this! I have bought a few busted RC planes at thrift stores and garage sales, and built new planes for them. Some of the dollar stores have smaller versions of these gliders, too. That is where I get my foamboard, too.

    The kids and I had a foam chucker from Walmart that glided so straight and true it landed exactly where you pointed it. Many a summer night tossing that in a triangle pattern. We later got an RC Airhog with differential thrust. Delta thing maybe 14" span. Flew on rails and about 10 minutes on a charge. Times were tight - little toy budget but we made the most of a few bucks.
    This video takes me back.

    Differential thrust is still 2 channel though isnt it? One channel per motor to give the ability to vary the thrust between the two?

    • @darrensmith8107
      @darrensmith8107 6 років тому +3

      Yes, one channel per motor for differential thrust, plus he actually used another 2 channels for the elavon (1channel for the left, and one for the right elevator). So it was still 4 channels.

    • @microbuilder
      @microbuilder 6 років тому

      I think techincally, the servos were mixed to the throttle channels, so it'd still be 2

    • @ammo193
      @ammo193 6 років тому +1

      microbuilder it's 4 since he's using all 4 channels

    • @microbuilder
      @microbuilder 6 років тому

      The channels being used were throttle and rudder, only two channel, just like the little toy airhogs planes that only used two motors for throttle and steering
