    I’ve used that exact leaf blower and it is legit tbh. Haha. I couldn’t help but notice that it’s basically just a average sized edf with a big battery. Always buy the tool /battery combos when they are sale bc the batteries are stupid expensive. Killer job! -Austin

    This kid has the same youthful enthusiasm I used to have in the 50's and sixties, sadly then I only had bottle rockets and cello tape. keep it up kid , you are inspiring lots of us to keep going and for the younger viewers to try their ideas.

    The way that plane just fell out of the sky like a brick as soon as the wings folded was a great illustration of how amazing flight technology actually is (and how precise the specifications for achieving it are)! We tend to forget in this modern world, with jets criss-crossing the skies above being a perfectly commonplace occurrence, how impressive and extraordinary flying is. Nice to be reminded!

      @@1mariomaniac Right. When having little to no knowledge about aircraft designing, aerodynamics, etc, and when unable to do the calculations to establish the plane specs as close as possible to a flyable demonstrator, this quite dumb dude who steps on his ”creation”, chose the same empirical way to spend time and resources to build several prototypes which proved unsuccessful. He is no different than many ”inventors” from more than 100 years ago. At least, at the time, they opened the road to aircraft design and industry. And nowadays, when the knowledge to do such things is available to anyone, choosing to do the job like more than a century ago, just shows how smart these ”creators” are... But, without them, it would be harder to see the really good ones. Fortunately this dude is not going to jump to death from Eiffel Tower, wearing a stupid ”parachute”...

    • @gamewarmaster
      @gamewarmaster 5 років тому +41

      The only problem with that is the smaller you make it the more unstable it is. Like, not unstable but if you make something a 10 millimeters you have to think about that but scaled up by 20 to get to a small model plane. So there is a 200 mm mistake and when something like a wing is 200 mm longer it makes a massive difference in the flight. TLDR you have to be near perfect because everything is super exaggerated when it’s tiny.

    Hell yes. I am glad to see this project revisited. Some of those shots are really cool of that thing flying. I have been missing some of the old school rc plane videos.
    On the battery thing. At my work people bring in those packs all the time trying to get them rebuilt but we don't rebuild lithium packs. They then get mad at me because I can't do this for them and they have to spend $120 on a new battery pack. I try and explain to them then that they should always research whatever they are buying before purchase because lithium batteries don't last as long as ni-cad/ni-mh packs will. You might get 3 years out of a lithium pack while a ni-cad pack will get you 10 years. Anyways thats just my little tidbit about lithium power/yard tools.

    The entire time I was confused as to why you would take the nozzle off. I think your thought process was logical, but if it's a leaf blower, there's a good chance the blower is designed to create a higher static pressure to deliver more high velocity air out the nozzle. So, less air volume but at a higher velocity. Even with the dead weight of the length of the tubing, it still took to the sky with more gusto than the first attempt. Or at least, that's what it looked like to me

    Aerospace engineering student here.
    Quick summary on airflow:
    if you reduce the diameter of the tube, the esacipng air is faster than the incoming air.
    Faster air results in a higher push force, which is what you want, if you're trying to get this thing to fly.

    • @thisguy9458
      @thisguy9458 2 роки тому

      so more air pressure by making the leaf blower tube tighter in diameter = higher push force?

    • @stainlessteele5
      @stainlessteele5 2 роки тому

      @@thisguy9458 Yep that's exactly right that's why the leaf blower pipes get narrower at the end so the air comes out faster and they push harder. So by removing the pipe they actually made the performance worse.

    With the conical nozzle attached I'd expect lower static thrust but higher potential top speed (dependent on drag of the airframe, of course) due to increased exit velocity from the nozzle.
