FOLLOW UP!! I have finished putting in the replacement glass/LCD everything was as easy as you made it look; brilliant job of showing how it can e done.
Hello Andrew.today Jan 04, I have replaced the screen and digitizer, as far as I know I followed your video exactly. I am just getting a black screen and it won't charge.
Hi,I've a crack on my Nexus 7 and screen is not working.I can use my nexus 7 with a mouse, display is okay.Just have a crack and the area without crack is working fine. I just want to ask should i buy just 'Touch screen' or should i buy 'LCD+Touch Screen' cause i'll be giving it to a store to fix it.
My screen is also cracked and in need of repair. I just want to be sure I am understanding the terminology correctly. The following link contains what I think to be the replacement part for my Nexus 7: www.ebay.com/itm/For-ASUS-Google-Nexus-7-Glass-Digitizer-Panel-Touch-Screen-/371172993485?_trksid=p2054897.l4275. Is this what I need or is this what you are saying one should not buy without having the correct specialized tools? Thanks, and thank you for the video!
No don't buy that buy the complete unit lcd and digitiser like this one here: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-LCD-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-Glass-Assembly-Replacement-for-Google-Nexus-7-UK-/141300204536?pt=UK_iPad_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item20e62603f8
andrew mcneil I attempted to seperate the digitizer from the LCD and got it but at the last end it freakn cracked almost got it perfectly but failed should've took your advice... it was in there like no ones business.
Thanks for the video. Gave me confidence that I could do the repair myself. I chose to buy the display and digitizer in one with thew bezel, just to keep it simple. Worth while.
Thanks for this video, it felt like this video was the "Easy way" to fix the digitizer and the others are the "Hard way". I had much nicer looking result too.
Absolutely brilliant, really helped me. I've had my old, broken Nexus 7 in my bedroom draw and I just haven't bothered with I really. My iPad which I've had for a while is responding very poorly to my requests so I decided to have a look at my old tablet and try to fix it... I just needed some good instructions to help me fix it, and here it is. Amazing and very detailed instructions... Thanks a lot Andrew!!!
Excellent video. Thank you for explaining about the digitizer being glued. I bought just a screen (stupidly not reading up on how to do the fix) and then I had to return it (they won't refund me 100%) and buy a digitizer and screen before I could put my nexus back together again. But your video was great.
Thanks for the video. I had replaced screen on my phones before (both an HTC Evo 4G and a Nexus 5), but I never had to do my tablet. Then my almost 3-year-old son decided to chuck it down the stairs, lol. This video was a great help - particularly the advice about not buying just the digitzer or LCD separately but instead as a pair. That saved me lost time and money.
Excellent Video!! My son cracked his screen about a year ago and rather than replace it I went and purchased a newer tablet. I came across the damaged tablet the other day and decided to order a screen/digitizer with frame combo and do a repair just so that I could have an extra tablet laying around. Your video was the perfect aide for my repair. I purchased my new screen with the frame so I didn't have to do any blow drying work in the last half of your video. Definitely recommend anyone purchasing a new screen to go ahead and get one with a frame. Mine was $40 on Ebay.
Great job Andrew. My broken Nexus 7 works just fine again. Got a cheap replacement digitizer directly from China (with tools) and was able to fix everything in 30 minutes. Thanks!
Spudgertastic! Thanks for the video, seriously. Word of warning to anyone considering this, if your screen is completely smashed like mine was, it can be a real pain to remove, to the point where I nearly gave up. If it comes off in one piece great, if not removing all the tiny pieces is a nightmare! Managed to bring my Nexus back to life. Quite apt to quote the replicant from Blade Runner where these things got there name 'I want more life f@cker'
Thank you for the video, saved me forking out 120 to fix it however I did make a rookie error pressing ever so slightly too hard on the corner of the new screen and cracked it :/ I also damaged the bezel a little trying to remove the glass which I also thought would be easier to pull off if it was all smashed - it wasnt. I bought a screen and digitizer with a bezel the second time and from a uk seller. wish I'd done that the first time. Only problem I found with this is the screws do not fit perfectly flush whereas they did before and one side of the nexus will not snap shut without force I darent apply, so I am going to remove a screw or two and hopefully fix that issue. Good news is - the screen bloody works! so chuffed. :) £80 down but I can fix them now. Thanks again!
Andrew I really need help to replace the screen of my nexus 7. there's a small crack right across, you can hardly see it, but one half of the screen stopped being responsive. Could you please help? I live in Singapore, and I'm just a kid, so i can't buy the parts. I don't have too much money. Thx.
Thanks, my neighbour just tossed a gen1 Nexus7 out for the council-clean-up (pile was near my garage), has a cracked screen despite the green rubber cover (reason it caught my eye) but yet to ask neighbour whether it still powered up after its little accident & need charging cable anyway!
Thanks Andrew for the valuable info. However, I am far less handy and wondered if I could send Nexus 7 to you for a fee of course. Would be economical to repair? Can replace with new one for about $250 Can.
This is a valuable video - I used a hair drier to head the adhesive holding the bezel to the glass. My mistake was heating from the back rather than the face, so the tape separated from the bezel, not from the screen. Ended up cracking and scrapping the whole project for a replacement. So I have a new digitizer/screen assembly with tools available raleigh.craigslist.org/ele/4771551020.html
hi andrew I need your help . after I replaced the screen , i figured ou the LCD is also bust. so I bought a new one. well after fixing it, I'm getting bizarre colors on screen. and it's neon orange/pink etc.. then static-look like a bad tv channel. is this a loose connection somewjere?
My screen was shattered and so I purchased a new one. I followed your video, but do not think that I purchased the digitizer separately. I did have to separate something from the shattered screen. Is that the digitizer? Anyway, I reused that part and reassembled everything. I just have a white screen. Did I not make all of my connections correctly or should I have also replaced the digitizer?
My 13yr old and I just repaired hers tonight with your very helpful video. She's noticed occasional doubling of letters when texting. We hope to solve that by reseating the two ribbon cables along the edge, which seemed not quite to align as well as before the repair.
Nice Video - i have the same problem. But Andrew can i check it with my Computer, if the Nexus with a broken window still work? Because i get the tablet from my little brother and he say it was 6 month ago.
We've just followed your instructions and successfully replaced our Nexus screen and digitiser , only problem was separating glass from Bessel thanks !!
Hi Andrew. Great video. My new lcd screen does not have the copper foil tape already attached to the ribbon cables like yours did. Can I just reuse the old ones if I can peel it off? Also I noticed I had those 2 screws missing as well. Thanks.
Thanks a lot. Perfect guide, except the glue between the bezel and the screen which I tried to replace using by normal glue with partial success. Currently Nexus waiting to under pressure to dry the glue :) I hope the best :)
Great video! but I have a question. At the last part when replace the new lcd screen and digitalizer you don´t use any special glue or apply gun pistol, you just put and press it. Is that right or I missed a part? Thanks anyway!
Brilliant. The bezel was cracked on mine, which lead to the cracked screen when I tried to replace the charging port. It was easier than I thought. For what it's worth, you mention that it has had work before because screws were missing; the same screws were missing on my brand new one. So not to worry. Thanks so much for this!
Hiya This videos been great reference for me too. Nicely done. We're worried we lost one screw from the chassais along the way, are these worth investigating the replacing of? Thanks for the video! :)
Thanks Andrew most helpful but I need some sticky material to hold the screen to the plastic bezel. After I separated the screen and digitizer from the bezel I had to leave it before fitting the new screen and I think the sticky stuff dried out. Just wondering what adhesive material I can use to hold the screen in place? Can message me?
Hi, my tablet screen broke as well, and I'm at an indecision as to whether or not to get the digitizer/screen with the bezel, or without... any comments or tips would be great, thanks!!
Thanks very much for that, found it easy to follow and very helpful. Took ages to get the bezel away from the glass but the guitar pick and hairdryer worked great.
We recently broke the screen on our tablet, and we're looking to get one with the bezel already attached. Thank you so much for posting this! We'll definitely be referring back to this video once we have the parts to repair it.
Hello. My son dropped and cracked my screen I am pretty handy and want to try and fix it. I meed to exactly what i need to purchase. Is it just the digitizer and tools? Thanks
the ribbon connector came off the mother board while I was trying to swap over a new screen/digitizer. what do I need to buy now to fix it? a motherboard, maybe? is it worth the extra cash or at this point should I just get a whole new one?
Great video I dropped and badly cracked the screen on my google nexus a few days ago and the touch screen is no longer working so I can't use it at all I am going to attempt to fix it myself
Hello can you pls help i have already replaced it but i put on the wrong screen with the right digitalizer and the right evrithing but now i dont know how to rechange it because i´m a little scared it will breack the ditalizer, pls help me.
If I order a new Bezel, do they normally come with adhesive already on it? Or would I have to buy some double sided tape, or a special adhesive for it?
followed every step and everything worked! thank you so much for your help wouldnt have been able to do any of this without your video ( and i watched a hell of a lot of videos)
Good to see a "tear down" where you don't have to strip everything out. Minimal intrusion, clear instructions. I would take issue with using a "sharp knife" to lift the glass out of the plastic bezel. I managed to crack an unbroken screen. The trick is to get the frame and glass really hot and push the glass out of the frame from behind, before using the guitar picks. 5* tutorial. Thanks
Hi Andrew Fantastic video. It made taking the nexus apart really easy. One question though. have you any advice on who to buy from off ebay. I am an ebay newbie and the lcd + digitizers seem to vary in price from £8 to £40
Hi Mike try to buy one from a UK seller it will make it easy if you get a dud one. Expect to pay around the £35 to £40 I have got a few screens from a seller from china and one of them turned out to be a dud and he gave me a full refund after I sent him a picture of the screen as it just had red lines on it,
This was really helpful, thanks! In case anyone's wondering, it's not really that difficult provided you follow the steps carefully and take it slow. One note of caution - on my tablet, but not shown in the video, was what may be the cellular aerial stuck to the back of the digitizer/screen assembly. This needed to be carefully unstuck before lifting the motherboard away.
I replace the LCD and digitizer everything went smooth just like video but once put all back together the screen don't turn but I can hear the the tablet is on just has a black screen. And the LCD and digitizer are brand new??? Help
Irma, it sounds like the video cable have come loose, its the U shaped one on the back of the LCD, make sure you secure it with tape firmly after closing the micro-latch otherwise it works loose when you slotting it all together. Either that or a bit of dirt or dust on the latch at the other end of the cable.
Brilliant video thank you. Your instructions are very helpful and helped me repair my Nexus 7 with a smashed screen. I was amazed at how important it was to heat the screen to help remove the bezel.
i have got the same problem broke my screen.. however when i ordered it must have been the wrong part it just being the glass.. not the lcd aswell.. can you buy lcd separate and attach it to the new screen i brought already or do i have to order the whole thing as one?
FOLLOW UP!! I have finished putting in the replacement glass/LCD everything was as easy as you made it look; brilliant job of showing how it can e done.

So apart fromthe digitizer ineed a new lcd? Thats messed up. Thanks for the vid btw
Bought a Nexus 7 on Ebay for £34, and then a new screen/digitizer on Amazon for £27.95. Total for the Nexus 7 is £61.95, quite a good bargain.
Help, followed all thesteps and the screen is not turning on... the tablet is fine and working but not the new replacement screen Help
Thanks for the video - Would you mind sending me a link with the correct LCD replacement part off ebay? Thanks :)

Okay great, thank you.
andrew mcneil I attempted to seperate the digitizer from the LCD and got it but at the last end it freakn cracked almost got it perfectly but failed should've took your advice... it was in there like no ones business.
You need one with lcd screen and digilatiser you can buy really cheep ones of www.dhgate.com but they take a long time to come in the post
Okay thanks, David. I'm in the States but either way, I have been without my tablet for 2 years now- I can wait a little longer! Thanks again.
Thanks for the video. Gave me confidence that I could do the repair myself. I chose to buy the display and digitizer in one with thew bezel, just to keep it simple. Worth while.

I know these are oldies, I have the 2012 version...but I use it daily!, I have replaced everything in it from display to board to battery

I got it! :) It can be better observed at 6:06
Thanks foru the vid. Used it for fixing Kids nexus. Easy to do except the removal of the glass. It was really chatterd.
Thank you. very clear and very informative. No ridiculous pop ups and intrusive music. . A+
This video is excellent, much easier to follow then the Android Authority video. Thanks very much.
Great video I dropped and badly cracked the screen on my google nexus a few days ago and the touch screen is no longer working so I can't use it at all I am going to attempt to fix it myself

thanks andrew just replaced my sons and it works a treat :) great tutorial
Thanks Andrew, followed it through, no problems, Nexus 7 now up and running.
followed every step and everything worked! thank you so much for your help wouldnt have been able to do any of this without your video ( and i watched a hell of a lot of videos)
This is great and all but where do I buy the parts? I noticed deal extreme has them for 50 bucks. Thanks
Nexus all sorted and back in action! I seem to have lost a screw at some point though :( so be careful with the little devils...
My comment seems to have been deleted from a few months ago. How can I find it? It was under Matthew Marcial's comment.
What I noticed was the air bubbles on the new screen. What happened to those. Did you do something to remove them? Thanks!
Haven't yet got round to attempting this yet.
Is it not possible to only replace the screen without replacing the digitizer?
Good to see a "tear down" where you don't have to strip everything out. Minimal intrusion, clear instructions.
I would take issue with using a "sharp knife" to lift the glass out of the plastic bezel. I managed to crack an unbroken screen. The trick is to get the frame and glass really hot and push the glass out of the frame from behind, before using the guitar picks.
5* tutorial. Thanks
Allan I agree about the heat, but not too much of the bezel converts itself into a wiggly piece of modern art. ;-)
The guide actually adds unneccessary work.
very nice and easy to follow video, would this work with the 2013 2nd gen nexus?
you sound like a yorkshire man ,,,are you near enough to fix mine ?
Thanks for a great tutorial...will save my Nexus from the rubbish bin.
Thanks for this info it has made up my mind to have a go, got quoted 66 quid to replace it by a company
thanks for this. Mine's brand new and it's actually missing those same screws so I think that's just the way they make it.
I can't go through all that trouble. Is there a place that I can call to get this fixed?
Helpful information about this topic. I appreciate it thank you honey. :-)
Thanks a lot for this Andrew - just saved an N7 for £30 and half an hours work.
Followed all of your steps and it went perfectly. Thanks for the video mate!
Just did it and succeed ! Thanks a lot !
my nexus also had these screws missing, so I'm not sure if it has been opened or if they're optional or smt
are the screens for the original the same size as the 2013 model?
Excellent video just repaired my own nexus thanks
Does this same technique work with the asus nexus 7 (2013) ?
¡Thank you! I was afraid of repairing my Nexus but with your easy steps was enough. :D
Fuck this it's way too risky. I'll just get a professional to do it.
good video but all my 2 way tap stayedon my old screen where do i get thing 2 way tape
'
Best screen replacement video on UA-cam! Thanks!
You make it look so easy , my sons just cracked his , dont think I could fix it though
replace the son then ;))
Hi Andrew
Fantastic video.
Thanks. My Nexus 7 is now working again.
Good clear advice. Easy to follow. Thank You
Nice one Andrew, you have save me a few quid. Cheers Miley
Nice job on the video; his screw removal skills are incredible!
I replace the LCD and digitizer everything went smooth just like video but once put all back together the screen don't turn but I can hear the the tablet is on just has a black screen. And the LCD and digitizer are brand new??? Help

thank you man for this video I just replaced my nexus 7 screen and digitizer following you video , it is working beautifully.
Thumbs up
So cant just buy the digitiser and fit that ,need lcd screen also
Thanks for posting this. Very helpful.
Brilliant video thank you. Your instructions are very helpful and helped me repair my Nexus 7 with a smashed screen. I was amazed at how important it was to heat the screen to help remove the bezel.
+Mark Kelley Your welcome Mark glad it helped
I mean : how do you unlock that ribbon cable before 3:03?
This genuinely might be one of the easiest devices to repair
Brilliant video mate I'll defo be re-watching this when my actual replacement screen arrives. Very Imformative and detailed. Thanks.
i have got the same problem broke my screen.. however when i ordered it must have been the wrong part it just being the glass.. not the lcd aswell.. can you buy lcd separate and attach it to the new screen i brought already or do i have to order the whole thing as one?
You need to buy the lcd and digitiser as one unit. They are around £35 on ebay. Ask the seller if you can send the digitiser back for a refund.
ANDREW I FIXED IT I FIXED IT I FIXED IT !!!! thanks :-)
