Asus Nexus 7 2013: How To Replace Screen

- My son broke his Nexus 7 2013 screen by accident a couple of months ago and I bought a replacement screen, but I realized it was dead after installing it. The eBay seller sent me a replacement screen and that's the one I am installing in this video. Its much easier if you purchase an LCD screen that already comes with the frame. The back cover can sometimes be challenging to remove, don't be surprised if you crack the back cover a bit.
If you're experienced with replacing only the LCD panel instead of buying the LCD panel+Frame, you'll save yourself about $10 going that route but there are more risks, it requires more patience, and it is more challenging to accomplish.
The screwdriver set that I used is no longer available on Amazon, but I will post a link to a similar one.

Thank you for this excellent video! It was very easy to follow. Everything is working except the microphone, which I use to study languages. Like the new unit in your video, mine also came without the gold strip under the on/off and volume switches. I believe the microphone is part of that strip as well. I have taken the back off my Nexus again and tried re-positioning the strip, but still no microphone. Can you provide any guidance on this?
You're welcome! You are right, the microphone is part of the power and volume buttons ribbon cable. Are you using the original volume+power ribbon cable? In my video, the screen+frame came with the ribbon cable but it was torn so I reused the original one. I would check the condition of the cable and reinsert it. If that doesn't work you might need to buy another ribbon cable from eBay. I wonder if you can use the headphone jack and connect a earbuds headset that comes with the microphone and use that.
@@ChavezDIY My screen+frame came without the ribbon cable, so I did use the original one, which looked like it came off intact. I have reinserted it, but still no joy, so I'll be checking eBay for another one. I have two Nexuses (Nexii?), so I'll just switch my language studies to the other one until I can get a new cable inserted. Thanks so much for responding to my post!

I bought my screen on Ebay. Try Ebay or your local electronics repair shop.
I broke my Nexus 7 today, and there's no screen replacements in my country. I'm so sad.

@@ChavezDIY I'm from Ecuador. Sadly I can't order anything form another country because of covid regulations and a corruption scandal involving a stated owned mail company. Hopefully I'll get a replacement by the of the year if all goes well, and thanks for the heart man.
Thanks. The few videos I saw before this one only replaced the screen. and then I saw on eBay that they had option for screen and frame. and your video showed how much easier it is compared only replacing the screen and reusing the old frame.
You're welcome! I have tried to replace the screen only, but it was challenging because my heat gun started to soften the plastic frame and when I inserted my tool it bent and mangled the plastic frame making it look ugly. When I inserted the new screen it cracked because the frame wasn't completely flat all the way around, haha. If you're experienced in replacing screens it might be faster to replace LCD screen only, but for beginners and amateurs its easier to replace the screen with the frame. My daughter's N7 2013 screen failed, so I might give it a second try to replace the LCD panel only.

@@midas617 That's so awesome! Replacing the screen looks intimidating if you've never done it, but after the first time it's not so bad. By the way, I removed the screen off my daughter's N7 without damaging the frame. I wrapped the plastic frame in aluminum tape and used a heat gun carefully. But when I went to buy a replacement I couldn't find any in stock. All I could find were screens with frames, haha. Ill check again on eBay.

@@midas617 I finally found a couple of screens without the frame. One from China for $22 estimated to arrive in a month and another for $30 from CA arriving within a week. I don't like to wait so I ordered the $30 screen.
