Hi everyone, I built this Fine Molds Y-Wing back in December or so, well before my emergency hospital stay and put this Part 1 build video tigether - alongside the infinitely easy to build Bandai Y-Wing. There is a part 2 where I've started painting, but I haven't yet finished, I hope to get that done sooner rather than later! Hope you enjoy this one for now and Happy Star Wars DAY! Cheers, Chris
Happy May the Fourth Chris! I have been listening to the Plastic Posse Podcasts travelling to work and they love their Bandai Star Wars kits. Your's is the first I've actually watched on YT and the Y Wings look really cool. Might have to request one from my people at Christmas🙂
Go get one Andrew, they are a joy - but these Fine Molds are just as good if you like to cut and glue etc as well. I've always had lots of enjoyment out of Fine Molds, they are the quite achiever!
Thanks Clayton - I've filmed most of Part 2 (before my untimely visit to the bloody hospital) and I'm hoping to finish painting the main colours (going for the Red Jammer scheme) and get into the weathering sometime soon. Cheers
Thanks Bruce - yes its a great kit, one to consider if the Bandai one isn't available and if you like to actually apply glue to your models! Cheers, Chris
Like you I like both the fine molds kits and ban-dai star wars kits. I got Archive X's TIE fighter paint set as I used to be a little obsessed with getting that color correct. Their main color "Stormy Sea" is a bit too blue for my liking though. I'm doing a Ban-Dai TIE for May 4th and I'll just use TS-32 for the main color. That's reported to be a perfect match for some of the original models. IIRC a lot of the rebel ships were painted reefer white over a black base. So maybe using something like insignia white over black would be close enough. I look forward to part 2!
I find using the black base gets you quite a cold finish unless the reefer white is very warm with a lot of yellow in it - and that's been my experience in part 2 (yes I've nearly finished painting this thing) - using insignia white and light gull grey with a little bit of yellow over the brown base is almost identical to the studio base white. Stay tuned!

Great build video Chris. That Fine Moulds kit looks like a great build… I’ll have to be on the lookout for one in the future.

Hi Chris, I've just realised what the date is, while it's not quite the Enterprise, I do like the Y-wing and really need to add 1 to the stash.
👍
Heh heh, yes we call it 4th of May down here dont we?
Nice build! I still have a few Fine Molds kits in my model stash.

THE MANTIS..
Something different mate.
I always like to stir it up a bit with a Star Wars build or two. Still have a few more in the stash to complete and add to the collection...
