The referendum was simply an excuse to legitimize the takeover of the territory. let me tell you something. Using that tactic, you can take over pretty much any territory you want by following these instruction: 1. make sure large russian population in the wanted territory. 2. Haloreach2323 Russia does obviously turn a blind eye to volunteers coming in from Russia, but there are also volunteers from Germany, Poland etc also fighting on the side of the freedom fighters. But judging by the really old weapons and equipment Russia is not providing them any material help. You can see in the various videos on youtube the rebels using PTRS-41 rifles which date back to 1938, rebels basically dont have any artillery or means to hold off the Kiev tanks and armored vehicles which are attacking the cities in the east. Lets not even mention the airstrikes.

Everything would be solved if those who wanted Russia to be their country could just move to Russia.
I don't see the Russians doing this given that this would cause a total shitstorm and a really fucked up situation. I mean hopefully the West's reaction is clear enough that if Russia gets involved in the Ukraine NATO troops might just as well, besides a ton of armed militants on both sides creating a situation none can control.
Holger Göbber Im just saying if it does happen NATO will not get involved and Ukraine's military will be destroyed in weeks. obviously guerrilla warfare will follow.
Copenhagen Wintergreen Appeasement has a bad name since Hitler. If Putin moves into Ukraine, he will be seen to be on an expansionist course the Western Allies historically only know to be stopped via confrontation. I bloody hope none starts shooting but I don't see NATO accepting any more BS from Russia. I could imagine NATO intervening to prevent Russia moving too far west (demarcation line at the Dnjeper), sending unrestricted military aid, activate all sanctions they can think of and when in doubt start crap everywhere Russia has an interest in, e.g. sending a fuckload of weapons to Syria etc. so that naval base gets closed, stir trouble in central asia, invite Georgia to join NATO asap, pull Finland and Sweden into a mutual defense agreement and escalate to an arms race knowing the West will economically benefit from this more than Russia. The scary thing is that various NATO generals already said that from a military standpoint this stuff is the next thing NATO must do so we can only hope Putin does not proceed with a military escalation.
I believe the U.S. Should continue sending non lethal supplies to the Ukrainians but if things continue to get worse I believe some action must be taken by the U.S. Or NATO (just an opinion)
ROBERT STORMFIELD Oh, they won't. Russia's already stole another's country land and what did USA and NATO do? Nothing, just stupid sanctions. They won't start 3rd world war just because of Ukraine.
Eldar Zh Putin is expanding Russia by using force and fear and Western nations are appeasing him? Hmmm sounds just like a certain german dictator i know.
Historical Russian question: How do you prefer to be burried? Dear NATO and US please be informed that Russian war doctrine means that in case of external threat the nuclear weapon is to be used. Russians will not die alone. So welcome imbeciles.
Dear Readers, I am a proud Australian living in Australia and have been following this guys 'update's' over the past few weeks. Accordingly, with all seriousness it does not take Professor Einstein to figure out exactly how 'biased' he is in his reporting. He should be nominated for Ukranian or Crimean of the year award. If I may add, he could soon be offered a job by CNN or some other mainstream media network. Peace & Justice to all...
Vladislav Bondarenko Just a warning to anyone else that both of the linked videos are very graphic. That said, I've already seen them both. It's sad that there were civilian casualties, but there are always civilian casualties in war. The administration building was filled with armed individuals. If they didn't want civilian casualties, they shouldn't have encouraged civilians to stay with them inside of an occupied building. They all knew the risks. As for the fire, there's absolutely no evidence that it was arson. Most neutral reports state that the most likely cause of the fire were Molotov cocktails accidentally going off on the roof. Given just how occupied the building was by separatists, I find it highly unlikely a "pro-junta" arsonist managed to sneak in and start a fire on the roof. However, as usual, only blame is given, instead of context.
Tom Blake that's true. but those are very significant events that happened, and in my opinion it would be good if saimon or the other guy at least drove to those cities and explained what happened and showed some interviews with locals
That what happens when you think: "I am living in sunny , peaceful country. It impossible we will have war here. We don't need armour, weapon etc, it is just waste of money.." Same thoughts are going through german citizens right now. They think army is waste of money and time.
This is all so pointless isn't it? All these supplies they're getting, it won't matter right? I don't wanna sound stupid but they don't stand a chance against Russia.
Russia can't 'officially' engage in conventional warfare against Ukraine because that would pull the entire western world into the fight. They can only send militia and unmarked parts of their military acting as terrorists. Ukraine can surround the pro-russian occupied areas and employ a total wipe-out technique to clean them of hostile elements. They'd then just have to hold the borders with Russia and all would be well again. As a reference: Even Afghanistan managed to kick out the Russians with some US aid to the Mujahideen in the form of Stinger launchers. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_war_in_Afghanistan
In english, "shit" is a very changing word it could be literally feces, or it can mean a specific item or even a situation Its a pretty go to term for alot of things
Okay, I'm not American but he didn't say Ukrainians like eating shit. It was like saying, ''Ukrainians like eating this stuff,'' but instead he said ''shit'' which has more than one meaning. Words evolve, just like their meaning.
I'm in the US & it's a serious crime to try to send body armor out of the country. It is also a very serious crime to export night vision & thermal. If this was not the case, I would be trying to send these things over there. America has tons of inexpensive high quality steel body armor. Surplus Kevlar helmets are readily available here. Export restrictions are bullsh!t, a lot of laws in this country are F@cked up.
I love how this coward reporter changed sides from reporting from the Pro Russian separatist side to the Ukrainian army side after hundreds of pro russian rebels and citizens in the area were killed by the Ukrainian army.

Holger Göbber Im just saying if it does happen NATO will not get involved and Ukraine's military will be destroyed in weeks. obviously guerrilla warfare will follow.
sure but they would just be made another terrorist organization does Russia want that?
Tys Dasd Obviously not but Russia could gain two large industrial regions from Ukraine furthering their sway in eastern Europe.
Copenhagen Wintergreen
Appeasement has a bad name since Hitler.
The scary thing is that various NATO generals already said that from a military standpoint this stuff is the next thing NATO must do so we can only hope Putin does not proceed with a military escalation.
awesome awesome Journalism !! russian roulette rules ~!
I believe the U.S. Should continue sending non lethal supplies to the Ukrainians but if things continue to get worse I believe some action must be taken by the U.S. Or NATO (just an opinion)
I beleive if things start to get ugly NATO and the USA should start kicking some Russian ass.
So welcome imbeciles.
go "take some actions" and get destroyed!
There wasnt a single bulletproof vest in there, the guy even said forget about it we aint got that shit lol
Good shit Ukraine, take the fight to them. Warriors win the day.
Dear Readers,
I am a proud Australian living in Australia and have been following this guys 'update's' over the past few weeks.
Great story VICE, thanks!
I found the use of the term terrorism by the Ukrainian commander is quite hard comprehend! Terrorists is not what the eastern provinces's people are.
Awesome reporting, God Bless Ukraine.
Glory to communism.
Jesus was anarcho socialist.
I was hoping they would say something about mass murders in Lugansk here, but I guess that will not happen. Just like there was nothing about Odessa
Then tell us, as it seems that you know everything here

However, as usual, only blame is given, instead of context.
maybe cos vice only have 2 reporters in ukraine and they cant predict such events and they aint always at the right place at the right time :/
Tom Blake that's true. but those are very significant events that happened, and in my opinion it would be good if saimon or the other guy at least drove to those cities and explained what happened and showed some interviews with locals
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOREVER FOR SOME INFO ON UKRAINE............ WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN VICE NEWS?!?!
Bravo Simon, as a former Maidan supporter, after your despatches I became pro-russian rebels supporter. Thank you very much.
Army SOS is still going but it has grown up quite a bit from this stage. Wonder if Yuri is still involved.
I wonder why Simon don't ask them for all that british military surplus...
When basic items become priceless or like the night vision scope is worth gold
Be prepared and be thankful
Amazing, fight the good fight Ukraine, this is why the US has the second amendment to fight invaders like this, good luck.
That what happens when you think: "I am living in sunny , peaceful country. It impossible we will have war here. We don't need armour, weapon etc, it is just waste of money.."
Same thoughts are going through german citizens right now.
Arctor kovich Yup and that was the ultra powerful Soviet Union not the pathetically weak Russia of today.
Arctor kovich Russia, too, it would be necessary to sell MANPADS Taliban ...
Arctor kovich afghans are the toughest sons of bitches ever...theyve been surviving constant invasions ever since the days of genghis khan
shane smalls You're right about that. Id say some of the toughest soldiers ever were German, Vietnamese and Afghans.
I've been waiting so long for this! Thank-you VICE!
Glory for Ukraine!
thank u. slava Ukraini!
Героям в срало!
Simons reports is now pure propaganda from the US, bring back Langston.
yupp even worse than cnn and bbc
I’m just surprised Ukraine doesn’t have a professional army that knows what to do .
I really feel bad for ukranian army :( #GloryToUkraine
These people are heroes.
Guess who's "donating" on the other side ... Hint : kids want to go poo on him.
Як страшно, що майже нічого не змінилося за майже 10 років війни 😢. За цей час можливо було створити дуже сильну армію.
11:05 You hear that Ukrainians? Simon says you like to eat shit. Totally uncalled for, not funny at all.
Володимир Шалашенко
Yes the KGB is paying me 50cents a comment. Go read some more bullshit of buzzfeed or huffington post lol.
Володимир Шалашенко руку крымля не чуешь?
In english, "shit" is a very changing word it could be literally feces, or it can mean a specific item or even a situation
Its a pretty go to term for alot of things
Hi was making a joke! Its simply Ukrainian salo)))
Okay, I'm not American but he didn't say Ukrainians like eating shit. It was like saying, ''Ukrainians like eating this stuff,'' but instead he said ''shit'' which has more than one meaning. Words evolve, just like their meaning.
Phew, I was worried there for a bit, thought the soldiers might not get any salo
5 million in aid lol...
I'll bet most of it will end up in a corrupt politician's pocket.
It's not pocket change.
was thinking the same! It's really nothing coming from US
madmax1717 It is from the US
Glad to know the flashlights are bullet proof. Takes a load off my mind.
11:00 Сала Украине - героям сала!
The reporter Simon Ostrovsky is Jewish.
SHimon
Илья Аленин Probably, he is a Jewish immigrant in USA, he was born in Russia.
Bob Smith he wasnt born in russia, he was born in western belarus and his surname is polish
Илья Аленин I think wikipedia says he was born in Russian Soviet Federal Republic of USSR. Could be a mistake then.
Bob Smith well,im not sure, maybe he was born in RSFSR, but his family hails from western belarus,
all surnames ending -iy have a polish origin
Vice, I need more news now
Whats with this weekend = no news crap?
Are you implying the news stops on the weekends vice?
I love how this coward reporter changed sides from reporting from the Pro Russian separatist side to the Ukrainian army side after hundreds of pro russian rebels and citizens in the area were killed by the Ukrainian army.
there is a difference between being a coward and being smart. Obviously you dont realize this so guess what category you belong in..
It's nice to get the story from both sides for a change. Any report on Israel these days is from the Gaza strip.
Arctor kovich
Yeh because right sector keep putting bounties on people like Graham Phillips.
Pro Russian rebels? That's a nice way to call Russian/Chechen terrorists. Didn't you watch videos/read news about dozens of zinc coffins going back to Russia?
Sergey Bebenin it is not true gullible idiot
That Pulsar isn't a night vision scope, but a Thermal vision scope, those things go for over 1500 dollars
That's hard to watch. The Ukrainians really love their country to serve like this.
Simon where is the other side of the story?
Vice you really need to get better at always putting the date of filming in the video. Always have it at the beginning, in the same spot, so it's easy to find.
Like a news article.
Where is their facebook. I'll donate.
Bravo to Yuri Kasyanov, a good Ukraine citizen to defend its sovereignty against Russia.
Russia did not invade Ukraine. There was a referendum that almost unanimously decided to separate from a western backed coup, and chose to side with Russia.
This is a good advertising video for Ukrainian army, now watch the amount of donation the Ukrainian army receives.
how can I donate?
Thank you Yuriy!!!! Dyakuemo i vitaemo iz NY!!!!! Geroyam slava!
this guy is a hero. VIVA UKRAINE!
Great job in doing the real reporting for all sides Vice News.
