*New Subscriber* : That was *fantastic*. Attention to detail; thought through approach; professional pride in carrying out the work, where most of the detail will never be seen; adds to the brilliant brickwork to give a total high quality result. The builder should have been throwing you a bonus for that job. Contrast that with the builder of my house. The surveyor I got in to snag the final result said that the length of flashing above the canopy porch roof was in one section that was too long and that it would split. The builder wouldn't budge, so I had to suck it up. Just when the house was out of warranty, the flashing split, so I had to pay someone to come and put in the 2 pieces that it should always have had. So great to see someone who not only knows what he's doing, but has the professionalism and integrity to do the right job every time. @skillbuilder should have you on to talk lead work. @@slbleadworks Maybe give Roger on Skill Builder a shout and you could make a video together. That would get lots of eyeballs on your video and help it grow. Hey Stu, somebody has nicked half the lead off my front porch which is curved. How did you do those upstands on the curve. You mentioned like a corrugated edge
So sorry to hear that 🤦🏻♂️. I hope karma exists. Yes so you bend up your upstand like normal. I’d usually do 75mm on a curve. And then you go along the upstand with a rubber mallet or bossing stick. Hitting one side at first, then move along the upstand hitting the other side and so on. Repeat this process. This makes a corrugated edge. This will allow the bay to bend around the curve. I have pictures of what this should look like on my Instagram account. I hope this helps.
Hey stew, Why what would a cover flashing look like dressed down onto that flat lol. Well that is the same as slate and plane tile. Ps I'm not stalking they pop up on my channel.
I drilled into the bricks and fixed with red wall plugs. I usually bang in a ring shank nail with some copper acting as a washer. I also fixed the top of the up stand to the wall using the same method.
Omg I remember doing one of these but it was a sandstone decorative door entrance.i told the apprentice to use a little bit of heat for the drip just to get it bend over ,did he listen? Nope decides to hit it with my Big Bertha (dresser) and knocks the corner of the sandstone off,not just a little bit but the whole corner lol that was the apprentice stuck in the yard for a week making vallys and cavity trays as punishment 😆
Love the videos, best lead work I've seen. How do you finish your mastic pointing joints, as the lead mate can be a difficult consistency to get a good finish on. What tools do you use to finish it etc. Cheers Tom
Thank you Tom and thanks for watching the vid and taking the time to comment. Yes the lead mastic can sometimes be hard to get neat and tidy. Especially if your going onto a rough uneven surface like the type of brick on this job. To he honest I just pump it in. Spay on a little water that is a small amount of washing up liquid in. And smooth of with my finger and wipe of any excess with disposable wipes.
@@slbleadworks that's interesting it looks very neat in the video, I usually use a 25mm scraper which I wet with water. But like you say on rough bricks or if you have larger than normal joints it can be difficult to be satisfied with the result.
Did one of there about 15 years ago, I'll dig out the pics and send them if I can find them. Would Love to send you the pics of mine but no contact details. In fact there were 7 of them. Beautiful work again btw.
That is really very beautiful work. If all leadwork came poor looking like this.. How wonderful. Just one note. The lips of the bricks on the edge next to the wall and underneath the lead.. Will they not f deterioration over time as the water hits them?
Thank you this was quite enjoyable to do. In answer to your question I’m not really sure to be honest. I don’t think they’ll wear away any quicker than rain hitting a pavement for example.
Thank you. Well when I first turned up the scaffold went all the way around. But I had to pull away for a couple of days. When I returned the scaffold had been dropped on the right hand side 🤦🏻♂️.

Nice stew,
I did 7 of these in Chigwell about 20 years ago.
They are close to identical.
Very nice.
Thank you. I’d love 20 of these to do.
We’re they vented cheeks too ?
@@slbleadworks vented cheeks ?
There are no cheeks just the curved bay.

So modest about a rare skill. You're an artist mate.
Thank you. I definitely enjoy this type of work.
That would be simple to ply, you just slice the ply to create the curve,
I agree.
Very nice 👌🏼
