I bought an a300 ultima about 2 weeks ago and took it dove hunting last Saturday and I gotta say, the gun is amazing with recoil and follow up shots. Super predictable recoil makes it easy to get back on target. I would definitely recommend looking into them if you want a great semi shotgun for the price.

This is a great review I shot the sx4 today I’m wanting the A300 ultima I gotta say this is a great , however remember you have shot the sx4 for years plus weren’t you and your brother sponsored by Winchester at one point that might be the why your biest but I’m glad you did this review thanks for sharing

The weight of the Ultima is what makes it seem lower recoil than the SX4 in recoil impulse. But the SX4 is better.

I own a Browning Gold and a Berretta 1301. Your series of reviews help me decide what I got next, a SX4 in 20 gauge. The preferred the feel of the Winchester and the early examples of the 300 Ultima I held felt bulky and a little sloppy. I would be ecstatic to own either gun, but your review format helped me decide what was better for me.

I already have a 12 gauge and I wanted to have options when it’s hard to find shells. After a year of shooting both I prefer the 12 gauge, but it’s easier to carry the lighter 20 gauge when I’m walking.

Thanks for the comparison. Ran a SX4 for 2 seasons - Traded it in last week on a A400. For me the SX4 really felt bulky and didn't fit at all for some reason. You are defiantly taller so thats possibly why. With my friends vintage Cooey single shot break barrel I limited out with shells still left in the first box, and the next day with the SX4, two boxes were spent and I did not hit the limit. To add Injury to insult, the sx4 would also pinch the thumb if you didn't pay attention topping it up, worst case scenario it catches your glove and pinches them in there in a way it the glove is stuck - found myself with only 1 round chambered several times due to the PITA having to take off your gloves constantly I was starting to avoid doing it.

Was looking for a mid range semi-auto, your in-depth reviews and comparisons are incredibly helpful, nobody else puts out educated, unbiased content on shotguns like this. Grandpa said he saw you at one of the exhibitions, and he suggested the SX4 since his brother has an SX3, but as we talked about your reviews we decided the A300 Ultima would probably be a better fit for me, and it's kind of fun to have something different than the other guy too. Anyway, thanks again for putting this out there, hope it's successful content for you and know that I found it really helpful.

Two things that put the SX4 ahead to me. First is the safety. I hate berettas safety location. For those who up,and hunt where you have to go from safety to trigger quickly as a bird comes up I had several instances where my Beretta safety caused me to accidentally pull the trigger when moving my hand into the trigger guard. With the safety at the back of the sx4 your pushing your finger forward into the guard whereas even with the redesign moving the safety from the front to the middle - especially in inclement weather where you very likely will be wearing gloves this is a safety incident waiting to happen.
Next and as important is the weight of the guns. At a pound more it doesn’t seem like much but if your upland hunting where your likely to be carrying all day and for sometimes miles, an extra pound is immense. My Beretta stays in the safe anytime I’m upland hunting. Maybe in the blind, dove hunting in the fall or at the trap range a heavier gun is somewhat of a bonus but NOT in the field.
If you basing the win on disassembly and the fractions of a second faster you shot the Beretta I think your thought process is wrong. Ya, the beretta could be a bit easier to clean. Ya, if your competition shooting follow up is important, but as to hunting and safety i feel you missed the mark.

I don’t remember if i mentioned anything in his SX4 review but he mentioned the factory LOP is 14.25”. For us shorter armed people, if you need to on the synthetic SX4’s, you can take the recoil pad off and there’s a LOP spacer pre installed from the factory making it the advertised 14.25”. You can take that spacer out and put the recoil pad back on, shortening the LOP to 14” even, which is the same LOP as something like the Remington 870.

Either would make a great clays gun. I shoot a browning maxus (not a maxus2) it’s basically a nicer SX4. Same gas system and bolt. And I love it. But if you’re sticking strictly to clays and games like sporting clays I’d strongly urge you to consider getting a over/ under for sporting clays as you can have two different chokes and switch barrel shoots first so you can use that to make hitting different birds on the sporting clays course easier.

    @spikestern3237 3 роки тому +8

Very good comparison well explained on several points that are important.
Would it be interesting if you made a comparison with the Remington V3 if it is now available?
    Remington went bankrupt.
I bought a Remington V3 myself last year.
I think it is damn good fast to aim with comfortable in the design and really low recoil.
It has a lower weight than my Browning Maxus version 1 not the new one I have not tested only known in the store.
I have had 2 Browning Maxus one black with 26 "barrel. Switched to one with 28 "barrel and with camo max 5 camouflage because I hunt a lot of Geese, Ducks, Crows, Gulls.
I think Browning Maxus worked well reliable.
I have probably fired 5000-10 000 shots with Maxus only had trouble 3 times as far as I remember.
2 times with light charges on training and competition.
Since last year with 36 gr hunting shots but it was poor weapon care. Now I do not try to shoot over the head and from the hip.
I shoot and train mostly sporting and hunting trails with realistic goals to become a better hunter.
The maxus is probably my favorite, but I can certainly use the most and certainly shoot 1000 geese with the Maxus rifle.
It was also more expensive than the Remington V3.
Here in Sweden, a Maxus costs around 1600 dollars in camouflage calculated in your currency. Remington V3 I paid around 600-650 for here in Sweden at a sale half the price.
It was in the price range with the Winshester SX3 or SX4 not on sale.
I have tested both SX3 and SX4 , the ones I like have the log grip performance on the Browning Maxus better.
Then I also have a Benneli Vinci the ugly UFO rifle called the Spaceship here in Sweden. 😂👌😍👽
I like that rifle very much not many people have it.
I shoot damn well with that rifle on both hunting and sporting.
But the Benneli Vinci is also one of their most expensive models.
Vinci costs around 2500-2600 in dollars here.
Not many people buy the ugly rifle for the money. 👍😁
I'm very happy with that rifle.
    I keep it.
Now to Remington. I did not like Remington Versamax at all noticed immediately when I took in it felt cheaply done the log grip I did not like.
Expensive here also bought Maxus instead.
I immediately liked the Remington V3 when I took it.
Then at half the price too, you strike. What I do not like is the charging port and it is slow to get in new cartridges in the magazine.
Sore thumb after recharging a few times.
Especially when you have hundreds of geese coming and you need to reload quickly several times.
There is a Version of Remington V3 called Waterfowl Pro I think it was? 🤔
Larger charging port completely different rifle that model I want to get hold of.
    Not available here in Sweden.
Advantage to Remington V3 what I think against Browning Maxus is.
    Better impression on V3.
Less recoil in V3 but lower weight.
Significantly better balance in V3 faster to throw up and aim with.
So something with Remington V3 I really like.
Disadvantage here is that we can only have 6 rifles.
So you're lucky over there in the United States.
6 pieces then you can get a competition license on any rifle then you are not allowed to hunt with those rifles.
Hard too get also only 2-3 guns if you not are olympian, or the king here.
But we are lucky we get to shoot how many geese and ducks per day there is no limit here.
Here where I live in Southern Sweden, there are thousands upon thousands of geese.
My record is 117 geese in one morning when I was completely alone.
Then around 100 with some friends.
Then Remington got a bad reputation, which I noticed myself.
    I bought a Reming 11-87, I sold it new to a friend, bought a V3 instead.
The 11-87 has broken 3 times now in 1-2 years first the bud on the stock came loose and disappeared.
Then the rail that feeds the shoots out of the magazine came loose.
Now, a few days ago, when the goose hunt here began, he fired 2 shots when the puller broke to the shotshells , so now the rifle must be repaired again 👎👎
2 shots since it was in repair.
    Bad quality.
I'll see how it goes with my V3 I have not shot much with it around 300 cartridges only.
I got it late last year.
But I plan to hunt a little more with it this year.
Had it now on 3 hunts since August 11 when the goose hunt began.
Had a bit of bad luck on the hunt, sat in the wrong field but got 5 geese with V3 now so far in 2 weeks.
Older Remington is good quality I have shot a lot with the 11-87 and 1100 model.
I borrowed a friend's 1100 model at a competition in the hunting trail because my shotgun broke.
I came in 2nd place out of about 400 starters in that class that day.
    I had start number 349.
I do not know how I succeeded in that? 🤔
Extreme luck i think i was that day.
Missed on 1 goal only got in only 7 hail in the piece of paper on that goal full pot is 10 hail in about 3x4 Centimeters about 1 moa on different figures that come on the wire rope.
But I have tried to beat it in the same competition several years after it on the same targets never succeeded with it.
So it was extreme luck or I was in a good shooting mood that day 😁
Thanks for a good channel and good explanatory and well shown 👍👍

I have owned a sx4 since they first came out and I have been not impressed with it. I have cleaned it religiously and it will not cycle 2 3/4. And it jams on me quite a bit. It also in my experience hates the cold weather. When hunting in sun 20 degree weather it struggles to cycle

How many rounds in it? I’d say put in some 3 inch and just go through a few boxes. Store it with the bolt back and get some shotgun cleaner for cheap it removes all oil and grime then lightly lube and wipe off excess works most of the time 👍

I'd have to disagree with you on the reliability section. I've owned an A300 for clays competition and have been using it for four years now. I have over 90,000 rounds through that shotgun and zero malfunctions (except for oval shaped Rio ammo that wouldn't chamber one time). My friend on the clays team had an sx4 that he ended up getting rid of after it broke mid-round of skeet. He probably had around 20k or so rounds through it when a spring in the trigger group snapped. I realize most people wont even go near that many rounds through a shotgun but the QC and reliability of the Beretta really shows. I doubt I'll ever buy any other brand of shotgun. Not that I'll need to while I still have my A300.

You should see how many comments I am getting about the Ultima having issues and all the people frustrated with Berettas customer service. My Ultima also now has a trigger that malfunctions. I have not heard the same issues about the Outlander. Everyone can experience different issues over time, but I have 10's of thousands through multiple SX4's.

Depends on your price point. Winchester on the lower end and Benelli/ Beretta on the upper end. I’m a lefty and own several semis, but I don’t own a left hand. The Mossberg has a tang safety which is nice, but not a well made shotgun. My go to is the A300 Ultima, just reverse the safety. This video concerning recoil is done with extremely light loads. The Kick Off on the Ultima is fantastic with heavy duck loads. Plus, I’m cross eyed dominant and the mid bead really helps.

If I remember correctly from your review on the A300 Outlander, the predecessor of Ultima did not show any flaws operating upside down, while the Ultima at all your uploads has problems. How do you explain that?

@@Cheeba118 the first group of sx4 had its issues but the later version has no issues. We had the sx3 and worked fine but we kept the sx2 instead. The sx2 was more comfortable to shoot. The sx4 had a couple manufacturing issues, the magazine had a lip that wouldn't allow 3 1/2 shells to be put in the tube. I used a dermal and shaved it down and the sling mount on the barrel nut the clip broke and had to order a new one, the part was the same as the sx2 but the sx4 was super flimsy so got the sx2 and now no issues. But all in all the sx4 for speed is top dog compared to the sx2, as for reliability there equal.
