Some people just ain't good judging peoples age

    • @SaintPhoenixx
      @SaintPhoenixx Рік тому +13

Some people age differently to others. There are 18 year old guys out there who look 35 and vice versa. Facial hair, wrinkles from smoking or having a tougher life, hormone levels etc. Find a guy who is decently tall, put him on a TRT cycle, get him in the gym for a year, get him to grow a moustache and wear glasses and a suit and he could probably pass for 30.
And people generally suck at judging age. If you asked me to judge the specific age of a man after being bludgeoned with a hammer multiple times and being in shock from watching my girlfriend be eviscerated by a madman, I think I'd expect a little leeway with my estimate.
There's a big grey area between like 20 and 50 where men really can look broadly the same.

I only saw this episode once. I mean the USM version. And what I remember is the driver had actually made a reference to her plate. I believe he was described an immigrant. If I’m not conflating two stories.
My theory is/was he was from the Dallas area. Or was a Cowboys fan.
If you look back at the 1990 season, seeing this was april 1991, the 49ers had defeated the Cowboys that year. The Cowboys, if I’m not mistaken, had missed out on the playoffs due to that loss. I believe New Orleans made it.
It’s exceedingly possible the guy, who clearly had a screw loose, lost some money or had some grudge against SF fans due to that. And when he saw her plate, it triggered him.
Who knows, but the fact he had the tells of ball player might have even made him mistake him for one of the team members, seeing back in those days guys weren’t everywhere and you might have seen one once and mistook him months later.

Something I’ll note: I saw this episode when it aired on UM in the 90s, I was a little kid, but I remember this episode well bc it aired multiple times. So, from what I remember (pretty clearly) is that Jean recalled that the man gestured toward the bottom of her car and Dick looked at what the man was pointing at and said something along the lines of “are you serious?!” And that’s when the guy pulled out the gun and shot him. And that’s where the license plate theory came in bc the cops and Jean couldn’t think of anything else the guy would take issue with on the bottom of the car. And Dicks reaction was more of a anger/annoyance/ confusion (at least that’s how the actor portrayed the scene). Not out of fear. Like he couldn’t believe how stupid a reason the guy had was.

The second case struck home with me, as I grew up in the Bay Area. I've eaten at Original Joes a time or two, and was fascinated by the track these two people took - they were clearly going out of their way to elude him, as the path noted was no where near the most direct route to Belmont. In '91, I was living in Milpitas and working in the same city, so I may or may not have noticed this in the news... but I can tell you that 85 at the time was a very short route between 280 and 101, the rest of the freeway not being completed until 97 or so, and the Fremont intersection in Sunnyvale was not a place one would likely exit to head to Belmont (another 20 or so miles away, up 101).
I don't think they made the right choice trying to bail on the highways to confront him at that point. At the time, Sunnyvale was a very sleepy bedroom community, and nobody would have noticed their exit or the subsequent conflict. I am guessing she was trying to head to the Sunnyvale "Public Safety" headquarters, but that would still be a ways away. Like I say, I don't remember this event necessarily... but it sure is creepy. Right in my "home town", or at least region...

I occasionally buy and sell custom and/or high end, expensive knives. They're not $30k expensive, but since I'm frequently dealing with strangers I've only communicated with online, I always conduct the physical meet up in the parking lot of the local police station. When I tell people that's where I want to meet, most of them say, "oh, that's a great idea!" Only once did a potential customer balk at the suggestion of transacting our business at the police station, and suggested instead that we meet at a nearby strip mall parking lot. I sent one last message saying, "sorry, I've decided to go with a different offer" and didn't respond to any more messages from him. It probably would have been fine and the dude just wanted to meet at the strip mall because it was a little more convenient for him, but why take the chance? Anyone who expresses hesitancy about doing something perfectly legal in an area surrounded by cops isn't someone I want to do business with anyway.

The story of Jean and Dick. The fact that they would theorize it was because she has “49Hugs” or whatever it was on her license plate and that was a possible motive is so ridiculous. It was possibly a guy who maybe mistook Jean for an ex and realized it wasn’t when Jean got close enough to make eye contact. Or it could’ve been some psycho creep who wanted to mess with a couple of people and decided to kill one of them at the last minute. Who knows. How many cases have we heard of where there’s absolutely no reason for one person harming another? Some people are just evil like that.

A stranger keeping up with them perfectly then when they finally stop, waits for her husband to get out of the car? In '91, I lived in the area this took place at. While on 280/85 there would have been at least a few cars on the road to "notice"... the Fremont off-ramp from 85 and street in that year was pretty much a quiet suburban area. It is entirely likely once all three vehicles pulled off, not another one would come by until the ambulance came however long later (no doubt summoned by Jean frantically pounding on the door to someone's home at three in the morning, since there wasn't much in the way of cell phones or cell coverage at that time).
To be honest, there won't be all that much more traffic on Fremont to this day at oh-dark-thirty on a weekend. It's still suburbia at that location; although there is more business traffic (and even restaurant/bar traffic) these days. Until around 2:00AM, anyway. But it is by no means a major thoroughfare.

The team that did the original Unsolved Mysteries should get together again and start a YT channel, they were very good at finding such cases

@@dalew5832 I specifically said "the original team". Inheriting a franchise or music is worthless if the team is worse than the original. See also: Star Wars

Imagine taking a persons life over a computer? The definition of evil. A stupid piece of plastic and copper wire etc… and you ended the spark of life.
If that’s not a one way ticket to the pits of hell, idk what is. That computer is a hunk of useless junk today. That woman’s life would be as valuable today as it was then.

I’m a little hesitant to believe that the stranger in #2 existed at all. It sorta sounds like Jean might’ve done it and made up the stranger to place blame on someone else

Papa Lazy with another great video. I had heard about one of them, but not that anyone had a suspect in the case. Unless the wife leaves some side confession, I guess the chances of it ever being solved is dwindling.

1:00 aww I love how satisfied and snuggled you are, it made me pause the video and go do errands just so that I could then come back home and snuggle as well under my blanket and enjoy the video without having the thought of chores on my mind 😊 as for the second case, I do think that an obsessed stalker is the most realistic scenario, because if he was angry at them, he wouldn't have just sit there watching, and only fired the gun at Dick once confronted, no? I'd imagine he would have walked up to them both in the car and taken out his anger, but the fact that he was following Jean, and yet didn't touch her, really leads me to believe he was crazy over her, and seeing her on a date made him so mad that he "made a move" for the first time, and might have acted on instinct against Dick, as he could have, once again, just gotten out of his car and shot him while they were chatting in her car... maybe if Dick hadn't walked to him, he might have just left after a while... who knows...
