I started using Clubman about 10 years ago when I started wet shaving. When I put on the Special Reserve I immediately recognized the scent from 40 years ago in the barber shop as a wee lad. Great stuff. There is a reason why it’s been around for so many years.
Clubman is fantastic and as OG as wet shaving products get. It's even more OG than Proraso, Barbasol, and TOBS. I have most of those scents and love using them. My family tells me they are old man scents though. So I love to generously splash this on before grocery shopping with the family on Sunday mornings.
These are the things I can only use when my wife is away on a business trip, because she hates those "old man smells". But for those few days, I almost bathe in them and enjoy the smell of time travel... :)
40 years ago, one of my best friends got his first job for the parent company of Pinaud. He used to get me bottles of their aftershave for free! I still keep a bottle in my shave den!
My favorites. Spring: Clubman Classic, Lilac Vegital; Summer: Clubman Classic, Gent's Gin, Citrus Musk; Fall: Whiskey Woods; Winter: VIBR, Brandy Spice (sometimes mixed together). Incredible that it took this long for RE to carry these excellent products. One more thing, unlike many so called "artisan" products, all Clubman aftershaves have excellent post shave skin healing properties and never feel greasy or sticky.
I grew up with the scent of Clubman Aftershave and Talc Powder in my home. My father was a barber and always had that underlying scent on him. When he shaved the back of your neck with a straight razor, he always applied Clubman. It was a part of the whole barbershop experience. Fast forward years many years later, the scent is what got me into wet shaving. Now Clubman's newer line of products are the cherry on the sundae with Whiskey Woods being their flagship...in my humble opinion😊
Thanks for the memories, Matt. I'm glad to see that some things endure. LOL @ "traditional Russian barber shop." Back in the day, barbers were always Italian, at least in this part of the country.
The traditional Clubman is so reminiscent of what that old time barbershop would smell like! I like the fact that many box stores around me carry it! Even the company Fine Wet Shaving products made a copy of it with their Clubhouse scent! It's great that you are carrying this iconic line! Have a great week! JimG
Morning Matt. I have used the Clubman Penaud products for years. Back in the day I was given small amounts from my barber because it fell out of grace because of the push and advertising of the fancier cologne out there. I still use it now and use the mustache wax daily. Thanks for giving this old reliable product some much needed attention.
I love the classic scent of Clubman. I miss the powder on the neck duster brush after my haircuts. I like the Whiskey Woods and the Gent's Gin. Lots of people say you really need to decant the Lilac Vegetal into glass. Barber Supply stores have other great old school brands like Stephan and Master.
There are NO licensed barbers in my little town anymore! A woman at the beauty parlor cuts our hair now. She is not licensed to use a razor to shave, just for thinning out hair. So yes, I miss the powdered neck duster after the neck shave too.
I'm an old retired Barber 72. Clubman was always present in every traditional Barbershop I worked at. I've been a Barber since I was 18. I still use Clubman in 2024. Special Reserve, Bay Rum, Pinuad, are classics. Also Jeris Hair Tonic. We not only used it in the shop we sold it also out of our showcases. Good video.
Matt, great spotlight video. I love and use Pinaud Clubman as well. However, having lived in France for almost 2 years, the French Pinaud pronounced Pineaux or Pino with the long o. The "D" is silent. Thanks again for spotlighting this one.
How true that you can have a scent in the back of your mind and not realize it. I was shopping for a “new” fragrance and bought a bottle of the classic Clubman awhile back. When I opened the bottle it brought me back 50+ years to when I’d go to the barbershop with my dad and he’d get a shave. Clubman will be one of my aftershaves from now on.

The Bay rum smells great and Is one of my favorites. However, I live in Cincinnati and people often confuse the aroma with that of Cincinnati Chili. I get some strange looks while wearing it, and often heard, “who’s got chili?” when I would get on an elevator. I cut down on wearing it and went back to the original. I recently purchased some Gins Gent and I like that one as well.
*Whiskey Woods After Shave* is my go to after any one of 6 DE Razor rotations. There's just something about it... I also highly recommend Whiskey Woods in their Finest Powder which is a cornstarch base with the same feel-good smokey scent, with whiskey, tobacco, and woody notes. The ultra-fine powder instantly soothes dry irritated skin to leave you feeling fresh comfortable and rejuvenated. Perhaps someday Pinaud will create a tallow soap in the same fragrance...hint, hint! This smell, these notes, just ring my bell... Here's hoping you find a classic Clubman Pinaud that does the same for you.
Thanks for the vid, Matt! I love the Classic scent. While these are inexpensive, there are a lot of them. It would be great to have a decant sample set available, so we could pick a few to add to our lineups!
I have a love -hate relationship with the Pinaud Clubman shaving soap. I love the lathering action and the scent.. I HATE that it comes in these very small tubs making it difficult to load my brush
I love Clubman! My hair salon also stocks the Clubman talc that I request for the back of my neck. Relieves any itching. I also found an authentic Clubman shampoo online.
Clubman bought out lustray which is a huge name geared specifically toward barber shops. Are you going to carry lustray as well? Speaking of barbershop aftershaves i need to go buy a gallon of gabel's aftershave. Yes i buy it by the gallon.
i LOVE pinaud products. the classic aftershave is my go to. My only beef with their products is the shaving soap. it doesnt lubricate well in my opinion.. Thanks Matt!
Hello sir, I became aware of your videos by chance. I come from Germany, from the former GDR. I am a big fan of the classic wet shave. Especially the vintage shaving soap to name my favorite, Old Spice in the mug, I also have others that are still available. It's the same with the after shaves, I bought Old Spice After Shave Vintage from the States and I'm thrilled with it. Also brut and the vintage after shaves you showed are in my inventory. I love these scents and was able to convince my wife of them too. As I saw, you also have Gilette Vintage safety razors, that's interesting to me, I'm looking for a Gilette safety razor that is used in the Miami Vice series by Don Johnson, I haven't been able to determine this model yet. Maybe you or some users here can help me. I think your channel here is great. thank you for your understanding . Best regards to everyone here and of course to you from Germany.👍😊💈💈🪒
Lilac Vegetal is like cilantro. You either love it or it makes you want to commit atrocities when you smell it. I accidentally spilled Lilac Vegetal on my hand in a store. Big mistake! You can't just wash it off, either. I almost cut off my hand with my Leatherman. I briefly considered driving off the highway into a tree, but was afraid I would survive and not at least have the highway breeze. Some say it smells like cat pee, but I've lived with a cat before. This stuff is a biological weapon that should be outlawed under the Geneva Conventions. Other than that I have no strong feelings on the matter, and uh...YMMV. Clubman is awesome though. That's what I think of when someone says "barbershop scent." The haircut wasn't over until I smelled like Clubman.
When i tried it it smelled like stale piss like a urinal. Worst part this was during the pandemic when you had to wear a mask so it was backflow into my face. I gave the bottle away to my brother in law.
@@Bobdixon_Moonvarga_Dancer_III LOL! I once purposely left a bottle of Aramis (which I couldn't stand) at an uncle's house when visiting. A year later, it was still there. 😅

I used the Lilac Vegetal when I started shaving as a teenager in 1968! Now that I am beginning wet shaving, maybe it's time to give it another try.
I truly love Clubman ! The Bay Rum is my number 1 and the Whiskey Woods is number 2. I always use them ( and sometimes when I jave not shaven at all )
