    In this clip, Smokey Robinson responds to being called "America's Greatest Poet" by Bob Dylan. Elsewhere in the interview, reflects back on 1963 when Martin Luther King paid him a visit at Hitsville, because he wanted them to record his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, which he reveals was a part of Motown Records. He goes on to share what MLK told how about the way in which Motown influenced him. Lastly, Smokey talks about what it was like to perform hit songs during a time with African Americans were experiencing segregation.

      Of course it's recent. Martin Luther King was killed only 55 years ago. I was born a month after King was killed. And a month before Robert Kennedy was killed. Jim Crow ended barely 55 years ago. 1968 wasn't long ago when all of this had happened

    Motown and the city of Detroit were both so integral to Black America's march forward. Our history is something that is revered around the globe. To be alive and still reap the rewards from what Smokey and everyone else from his generation accomplished for us is a blessing. Thank you, MOTOWN.❤️💯👍

      @@jkbzz It’s the genes and checking bad habits and learning moderation…my Mom just turned 80 1/30/23 and she looks even younger than Smokey, doesn’t take ONE pill, No diabetes or HBP, still has all of her faculties, no cane, goes out with her friends and STILL eats whatever she wants and grew up in but in moderation! Exactly same with my 78 year old Father…they are SUPER healthy and when I ask them what their secret is, they just say…”Be good and kind to people, pray don’t worry, drink plenty of water, eat beans, and laugh & dance a lot bcuz this life to short to be moping around” lol 😂😂😂🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽♥️♥️♥️♥️☺️🥰

      Bud from Married With Children had the Illmatic album cover poster on his wall during one of the episodes in '94, not long after that album dropped. This was before Nas really blew up and was mainly known by hip hop heads. I was like "wow." Probably the most unlikely hip hop head I ever seen in Hollywood is Adrien Brody.

    As it happens, Bob Dylan actually did win the Nobel Prize for Literature (much to the chagrin of elite established authors like Philip Roth, who never won)...I think he might be the only living American Nobel laureate. So, high praise from him to Smokey.

    Someone said this already but I want to expand on it. Racist white folk hated African Americans but loved the music. This should go to show how baseless those beliefs are. Hypocritical is what it is. To this day it’s still the same way. A lot of white folk I’ve known/met over the years try to be every race but white. That, or try it o assimilate into those cultures im various ways.
