Nothing but respect and admiration for Smokey Robinson
One thing I learned about Smoke is he is ALWAYS gonna give you the truth whenever he interviews. I remember him admitting to too much ego and drug/alcohol abuse in an interview with Donnie Simpson years ago. Gotta love him for the honesty.
Absolutely right! That’s why I will ALWAYS tune into or read an article with Smokey, Quincy, Jasmine Guy or Chaka Khan(there might be a few others) because their telling the truth as they see it and it makes for the best interviews.
@frankjum; No Smokey has a fork tongue bc he told the Breakfast Club that he never dated Diana Ross IJS
Yea man he's from that generation that tell you as it is, no chaser. He's the kind of old head I could listen to for hours.
This guy is a living legend, the fact he's still here and able to share some wisdom is great. Looks and sounds great for his age, well worth listening to any advice of his.
THIS is what a true genius artist looks like, his material came from HIS head, not a dubbing machine! Amazing how sharp & detailed he is,I cant remember what I did at work last week!
True, but not to take anything away from Mr. Smokey Robinson and his extraordinarily keen memory but if you wrote the first million selling song for Motown, you’d probably remember your experience, too. 😆😆
@@noble604 agreed! But if you watch the rest of his interview he answers alllll questions with great dated detail.
Are you watching the same interview ? Twice he said he came up with his style and writing from copying other artist . He copied the platters and got passed on by Jackie wilson manager.
@@petej7002 did you not comprehend the comment they never said anything about his "inspiration" he stated that he wrote his own stuff so his brain is functioning at a higher capacity. I can't for the life of me understand how you could take this interview and find something to hate about.
Thank you for this interview, we need our LEGEND, LEGENDS to have an outlet.
What's brilliant about this segment. He's literally giving anyone who is songwriter a blueprint. He has made two references how he basically wrote songs in a form of a response to what popular song was on the radio at the time
Simple but genius. Speak to the ppl, sell them what they WANT to hear
I caught dat too and tha way he said it was like he said it’s second nature to him
@@jaymarley2269 Facts.. When you’re so great at your craft it’s basically is second nature to him.. He’s giving a competitive concept of how one can compete (in the world of being in a ‘Industry’) or in the Music Industry from his point of view which is Music..
I love Smokey! He has always been down to earth and sweet. What's not to love?
He is a living legend 🙌 one of the original greatest songwriters that wrote real music and still living
"Shop Around" is pure genius. I can't believe he wrote that amazing song in 20 minutes. WOW.
Agree. Artists telling the background story to their craft always surprises me ... like Whitney recording her bestselling song “I’m Your Baby Tonight” in just one take/ under one hour so she could get to the mall before it closed. That’s crazy. Lol
Definitely give this man his flowers while he's alive! He's a living legend personified ,can't wait to see his life story on screen with a really good actor like Jamie Foxx did Ray 👍💯
Kinda hard to believe they haven't done an unsung about smokey ......it would probably be a two part series.
This Smokey interview is appreciated !❤️
@MD3 DA SNIPA Hey! Wow yea I've not seen you for a while. Happy New year! Hope you're good?
What amazes me the most is that smokeys memory of all things that happened is incredibly on point, great great interview
I never knew much about this man. Started watching clips of this interview and wow… Guy is not only a living legend but still so down to earth, sharp and well spoken. One of my favorite interviews ever
Smokey brings the goods as only he can. Much respect! Loving this interview with a living legend.
I love How Smokey keeps correcting him.. Vlad knows it all ..
Man oh man, I'm really digging this Smokey Robinson interview! 🙏🏽❤️
I Love Smokey he's so Talented and Masterful
This was a good segment, no beef or drama just pure arr
You can just feel the life experience, confidence and wisdom oozing from him 😭
Smokey made some classic love music 🎶 classic 💯👊🏿
Smokey is legendary! Him, being a fascinating and a brillant song writer and artist is spectucular! And putting icing on the cake, he so deserved being "President of Motown!" I could listen to him on Audio forever! His wisdom, is an example of whom to follow for success!! He appears to be in his 50's!! 🤗🎶❤️
This might be my favorite Interview you've done
The story behind Shop Around seems like it's the first remix in music history.
THE KING MR ROBINSON
AWESOME AWESOME 🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️❤️
Respect to Vlad for these interviews, very insightful.
The 1st Lady of Motown and Smokey's 1st wife Claudette was not only brilliant but also beauty! Smokey KNEW all this and it factored MAJORLY into him marrying young. Plus the era they were in you got married early.
This and Smokey soooo classic..✊🏾🖤
I’m loving this damn interview. One of Vlad’s best for certain
I wanna be Smokey Robinson when I grow up! Lol. Dude is too smooth. I can listen to his stories all-day.
These are the interviews I want to see. The older heads who've seen some things. Kudos, Vlad.
Thank you,Berry
for suggesting Smokey to sing and speed up the song.
always been intrigued by Smokey and idk why. Just a true legend
I hope anyone that see this have a blessed day and that things get better for you every day in every way. That blessing is coming.
Smokey Robinson said it was a different time. It was a BETTER time, innocent, even the music was innocent.
The OG interviews are the best.
I like these Smokey interviews, respect Vlad
Vlad is the perfect person to interview Smokey. I’m loving this so far.
It would be nice if Vlad can get Berry Gordy I bet he has a lot of stories to tell
Vlad is the man!!! 💯💪🏿
This interview is excellent!
Legends never die. Literally. Smokey Robinson is immortal along with all the other celebrities. This world is a stage. Celebrities are playing roles as other celebrities. Steve Harvey is Michael B Jordan.
Amazing interview so far
Vlad, you have outdone yourself with this interview. Are you serious? Smokey Freakin Robinson!!!! A national treasure!
Good on you Vlad for this.
Thank you for the music man. I really appreciate it all ❤
I love these kind of interviews
I really hope I can meet Smokey one day.
They need to make more movies about this
Motown, during its heights, produced some of the most legendary singers, songwriters, producers, & families. Such a legendary label. I wish it worked out for Raekwon & AZ.
I'm just thinking that they had to do it right then because it's not like today where you can record it on your phone at home at 3am and work on it later. Simply amazing!
Big ups to smokey man his memories on point
Artists out there. Smokey had a JOB whilst doing music.
Before Babyface, Smokey was the singer/songwriter legend. Now they both are.
With Vlad interviewing Smokey...added a little more respect to the platform...Smoky is one of my moms All time fave...so I had to watch to see what's up..💯👌🏿⚫️
Man heard "Get A Job" and made "Got A Job". First response track in history. Lol
Truly enjoying these interviews with the legend, William "Smokey" Robinson!
Seem him in concert amazing legend
Oh snap this is the ultimate next level Vlad. One of my favorites of all time Smokey!!!!!!!
Such a smooth humble legend. Much respect to him. 🫡 salute 🫡
I love to hear these stories 💙
He’s a Straight Icon, Legend and still rolling great man💙
Smokey 80+ cool asf
It’s hard to hate on ol glad when he gets these types of interviews… Respect
With age comes WISDOM.
Man this guy has some stories. Living legend! You better shop around!
I’m waiting for the bio movie, Sir Smokey!
Thank you Mr Robinson
I chuckled when Vlad said “why Motown” and I immediately said “duhh cause it’s the Motor City” and I figured Smokey would say the same…I’m going to be nice and assume he asked that question for the younger audience 😂😂
My parents had all Smokey's music! It reminds me of parents got married young. I
Love these stories 🔥🔥
VLADtv Landing the Man himself. Legend. A National Treasure. Smokey is the one and only. Well Done, Sir.
The epitome of longevity
Love smokey, Motown legend!
Tuned all the way in to this interview.
I have never in my life felt. That I would see Smokey Robinson ever be mad. He seems like a quiet gentle guy
I pray to God my memory is as good as Smokey if Im blessed to see his current age. Guy remembers the smallest details...
I'm stuck on the whole 3am part of being called and getting ready out of bed. Love it🥰❤🥰
😃 4:33 was the start of my heart rate increasing with anticipation because even though I could somewhat figure the ending, I still had no idea it would be that awesome.🤯
That was a good one Vlad!
Smokey, You are a Treasure 🪙! Total Respect! Saludos d Mexico
The."hi were the MIRACLES"..EVERY NUMBER ONE HIT FROM THE MIRACLES. ON THEIR DEBUT ALBUM CLASSIC
One of my favourite songs.
A real hero here.
Love Smokey Robinson , got some great songs love them .
If Vlad a culture vulture....he the fuckin best at it! Doing interviews our own community doesn't value. Keep shit going Vlad 💯
You a Miracle! Thank God for you!
Smokey: Had the pop charts with Elvis and people like that
😂😂😂😂😂
We know what OG Smoke meant when he said that! 🤷🏾♂️😂😂
That's perfect codified language. In other words the people with the complexion for protection.
I think this is Vlad best interview
Berry Gordy with the OG Ye move re-recording shit lol also: both those songs still STAY in commercials. Those brothers were geniuses
Smokey definitely a real nigga he got too much flavor with a calm undertone but he ain't no punk
I don’t care if they start to avoid me…I don’t care what they do. I don’t care about anything else but..being with you …being with you. This is the era of him that was my fav. Take it one heartbeat…at a time. Close your eyes and let your soul unwind
I have a brother three years younger than me. He was always a bit effeminate in his ways. When that song would come on the radio I always noticed he would always sing with feeling "I don't care if they start to avoid me, I don't care what they do." and ""people can change, they always do, haven't they noticed the changes in you." It was then I realized he was gay waaay before he ever came out. That song always had so much meaning to him.
@@TheWonderfuldre that’s a cool story and that song is a good one to sing (I don’t remember all the lyrics to it but from the ones I remember ) for what he was feeling and I bet he’s a smart guy.
I don’t know if this generation, really generations since the 1990s actually know what love is since they’ve had so few love slongs. They’ve had lots and lots of songs about sex but few songs about love. (ps... I know mass marketed songs don’t make anyone “know” what love is but the cultural influence and impact of music/art/ commercialism is undeniable.)
Great interview Vlad
He's like the pharrell of my grandmother's generation
No, he's ten times better than that, over four thousand songs written. Numerous hits, nothing against Pharrell but it's no comparison.
@@andrethompson2034 Not saying Pharrell is on his level but he's in the songwriter's hall of fame for a reason.
@@M360-w6o so is Snoop Dogg, do I think he's a great song writer, hell no but I'm happy for him. Point is there's Smokey, Lennon, Mccarthy , Gamble and Huff and so on so forth. I was born in 62 so I might have a very different perspective than you. When someone hears My Girl they automatically know who wrote it as well as who sang it. That goes for numerous other songs covered by other artists that Smokey wrote. Anyway I get your point it was just the comparison

Yo Vlad, I’ve watched enough of your vids how bout gifting me with a membership..
Barry reminds me of Prince. When Prince wanted to change something regarding a song or didn't like something. It didn't matter what time of the day it was, Prince contacted everyone involved.
