I definitely feel ya on the "who would do what" in an apocalypse scenario stuff. Being from Louisiana, I know about how to do without (to a degree) from natural disasters/outages. People talk that game but they're not mentally equipped to REALLY be roughin' it. Especially without internet. No matter how badass you are, you really have to ask yourself if living like the Amish with the undead is the dream. Combine that with trust issues of who might be cannibals on the slick, folks who might be bit but won't say shet, plus the possibility of dealing with infected creatures. If we're talkin' 28 Days Later/Dawn of the Dead remake fast zombies, it's a wrap for A LOT of folks. Lol So for me I'll try to survive, but living that struggle life until I'm old don't look promising at all. I'll have that "quick & permanent escape option" handy tho when it's time. 😎
My beef with modern gaming is ...I got too GD old and now I got no bros to sit on the sofa and bust games down with anymore. 10+ systems, thousands of games and not one reliable dog to sofa games with... Absolutely pathetic.
I'm right there with ya. Got no bro any more. In response to Samurai, still on a budget, so it's not fun that way either. I'm not some #teslamer hah hahh
i feel you. i guess it has to do with getting older and also being jaded. we lived through the best times for videogames creatively, where devolpers were trying out new things, pushing boundaries and doing it (at least in parts) out of the love for the hobby. today it's much more of a business; with focus groups, too much involvement by suits, expensive dlc / lootboxes etc. & people who don't know what they're doing. some good games still come out, but the industry is not healthy. that's why i keep hanging on to my ps2, ps3 and ps vita, because those contain some of the best times i had with gaming. i play the occasional newer game on pc, like evil dead with friends, but a lot of modern games just don't speak to me.
That's absolutely right people our age literally grew up and came of age with the gaming industry we experience the peak of the industry during the peak of Our Lives and for that maybe it's harsh to compare now to then but you're right about the corporate suits getting in the way I think a lot of the passion is just gone
The market is so diluted. If we looked at the music, movies, comics, or any other established media while we were growing up, we would have forecasted the constraints put on the game industry.
I imagine it comes down to numbers. So many games are released today, that if a publisher spends millions of dollars to produce your game, they want an assured return on investment and may design by committee to appeal to the crowd who is buying new games. I haven't seen charts in years, but generally this trends younger. Maybe all the people in their groups say they like games with characters and gameplay traits that you describe. Smaller game devs which don't have the budget to run by a bunch of testers go by their instincts, but their is also research they can do. I imagine the "fun" space you're looking for is probably less big tentpole game and more smaller, less informed / skewed by data-developed game. I wonder if the Japanese developers design by committee as much. Out of all the new-ish publishers, I think Devolver Digital has a pretty gamut of well-received games. Maybe you should check them out when you have time.
*definitely agree with u when game characters take selfies 😂 cringe af. It's like these characters have this sitcom show vibe to them, they're always making poses and abnormally smiling. Like the cover of RedFall, those characters just reminded me of Saints Row. Trying to be overly cool and bad ass.*
I'm 46 been gaming a long time. A lot of games are aimed at kids. A lot of story content is written for immature audiences. It's just part of getting older. For me basically the less story the better. What really grinds my gears is super heroes. I have a psychotic hatred for Marvel.
They should make a game where you have to spend like two hours with a child then decide whether or not to kill them after they was affected or something deep like if you try to be a bad ass it cones with crazy consequences to add more of a realistic aspect last of us gave everyone the blueprint and people just said to hell with it
Dude The Last of Us was such an emotional rollercoaster on so many levels the team behind that really put their heart and soul into the development of the characters and it shows
@@lightsabersamurai1040 I remember when games were just that.....games. to this day I've only played about 10 ps4 games. Never played any ps5 or series X games. I will continue to explore all of the wonderful hidden gems on ps1 and 2 thank you very much.
Sunset Overdrive is an awesome game and again it was quirky and cool for its time but now that every game is trying to be quirky and cool it isn't so quirky anymore it's more cringe than anything
The last two modern games I’ve completed were Diablo 4, and Jedi survivor both were pretty good story wise. It may be the genre of games that is getting a little played out.
It's possible that's it Jedi Survivor had a really good story line just like the first game in the series I guess the main thing that's missing from a lot of games is the hero's journey I don't get to see any character development as the story progresses they're basically the same character they were at the start of the game as they were at the end of the game Jedi Survivor is definitely not like that from the start of the first game to the end of the second cow goes through a huge Metamorphoses
@@lightsabersamurai1040 Games like these are just the same thing you've seen since PS2, but with fancier graphics and sound. I think it's a thing with age. We know all the tropes. It's amusing when I hear that kids get turned on to some old band from the 70s, 80s, or 90s when the song is used in a movie or TV show. Seriously?! You've never heard of Queen, Metallica, The Beatles?!!
3:51 kudos to the fallout franchise what's your take on star field... recently got fallout New Vegas and will be loading up... Much of modern games have become washed out and story is less.. I was in br franchises but I gave up and was like 😂 what's the sense
I never got around to playing Starfield I play quite a bit of No Man's sky here and there it's good to see you though man how've you been still working on your engineering degree?

That's one hundred percent facts just laying as all get-out still trying to be cool in a way that the majority of people have already outgrown

Been wanting to try out dead island 2 but I feel like most action games are like that. Congrats on your teaching job :)
Dead Island 2 is definitely like that but it plays very well so I still enjoy it
By beef with modern games can be summarised in one word......money
Pretty much
