You're really going back in the video library! This one went well, but had I done a stack other than just alternating 10xx/15n20, it would have been more impressive. Live and learn! Thanks for watching, Darrell.
I like that trick with the whiteout under the tiles so they don't stick when forge welding. Haven't seen that one before. Cool trick. Awesome pattern. Thx
Hello, Tyrell, after your explanation, it became easier for me, understanding this pattern thank you for teaching for us that God bless you and you family.l am from brazil and l me sorry my ingles not good but l am learnig.
Hey tyrell looks amazing, I’ve been getting into mosaic damascus too, and I feel like explosion pattern is at the upper end of the difficulty spectrum but you pulled it off flawlessly, great job! Also thank you for disclosing what the steel soup is that you dip your billet in right before it goes in the forge to be welded, I’ve seen smiths use it but very few say what the mixture is, always happy when I learn a trick to help me along with my own passion... you should turn that bar into a knife with a wide surface like a chopper, broadsword, or dagger to show off that pattern, can’t wait to see what you do with it!
It’s not that hard. It’s only when it’s cold you can’t tell. When you start pressing it, you’ll see the layers in the scale that forms. Sometime I grind a little marker in the handle so I know which way is up. Thanks for asking. 👍
I love this pattern and will be doing this one again. What do you think? What's your favorite pattern?
Thanks for the drawings, they really help the visualization of each part of the process.
Glad they helped! Thanks for watching!
I'm learning with you! Beautiful patern, congratulations! The drawings help me too. Hugs from Brazil!!
Glad to have you join us and I’m happy you’re getting something out of it! Thanks for watching!
Wow! What a stunning piece of art!
Thanks for checking it out!
@@TyrellKnifeworks No problem, bud. I have watched quite a few of your videos. You're a very skilled blade smith. Have a blessed day. 🙏☺️
This pattern is my favorite so far.
Stay tuned, we revisit this one tomorrow!
Great idea with the flux in water. Also that was an awesome first attempt

Thanks for taking a look, Kevin!
That is an awesome billet sir.
Thanks! It made a beautiful chef knife as well. 👍

Thanks Tony!
Very good my friend, thank you very much for sharing your tarbalho
Thanks for watching!
Nice job! It looks like it would be perfect on a drop point.
Thanks, but this one was turned into a beautiful 10" chef knife. You can see the build in a later video. Thanks for watching!
Nice looks great
Thanks for watching!

Glad you liked the video. That billet was turned into a beautiful chef knife. It’s up there for you to watch. 👍
Looks flawless,💪🏻✌️
Thanks James! It went well and the chef knife I made from it is one of my favorites.
You always have such an awesome outcome on your patterns just wondering what a blank about 14 inches long of this explosion pattern cost me
Sorry, I don’t do billets for resale. If I did, explosion would be $700+ at least, it takes a long time. Thanks for watching
how hard is it to remember the orientation while forging? to remember where the "c" or "w" is in the moment?
It’s not that hard. It’s only when it’s cold you can’t tell. When you start pressing it, you’ll see the layers in the scale that forms. Sometime I grind a little marker in the handle so I know which way is up. Thanks for asking. 👍
Some work. Can this be done with a power hammer if a guy doesn't have a press?
Sure of course. I think you need some kind of squaring die though. Thanks for watching!
@@TyrellKnifeworks I was going to ask that question, If the squaring dies distort the pattern in a more desirable way or not
Can I please ask, what bandsaw do you have/use?
I have a Wen horizontal bandsaw, but see my latest video! I just did a review on the new 14" metal cutting saw from Wen and its amazing!
Hello, did you build the attachment for the grinder at 2:14 by yourself? If yes, do you have some plans for it? Best regards from Austria
Yes I did build it. I did a video on the surface grinder not too long ago. Check out Triple-T #16. 👍
Looks good. Sure was sticking to those dies though. =)
Yeah, that flux is a bugger on dies! I'm constantly cleaning them. Thanks for watching!
8:18 what's the ingredient?
I said right in the video, it’s kerosene and borax. The kerosene burns off and so does any oxygen. Thanks for watching.

شكرا لمشاهدتك!
Man get some die lube!! Big Blu has some awesome stuff, heat the dies spray it on, your damascus won't stick! Calcium based
The dies were also cold so that doesn’t help. I’ll have to look into the spray! 👍
