  • I've been making videos for people who want to move to Halifax, Nova Scotia and I've received a lot of questions about the cost of living in Halifax, transportation in Halifax and food in Halifax.
    For that reason, I took one of my recent comments and answered all of those questions in this 10 minute video. I hope these videos about our city help you if you're sitting on the fence about moving to Halifax. I think you'll have a wonderful time if you choose this city and make the most of it.
    Wondering "How much does it cost to live in Halifax?" I cover that in this video as well as touch on how buses work in the city!
    Be sure to subscribe for more videos like this. Most of my viewers seem to me moving to Halifax from India or China and I even had somebody from Brazil send me a message, but let me know where you're moving from.
    Let me know if you'd like me to make any Halifax UA-cam videos in the comment section below. We can tour the city if you'd like.

    Buying a house in Halifax is another consideration. One can always buy one in town or in the suburbs. There are advantages of both. An advantage of living in town is that you can walk places although there is older housing. This can be both a good and bad thing. In the suburbs, you can buy a newer, larger house (Clayton Park, parts of Dartmouth and Bedford and Fall River) and out in Jollymore (though the last isnt the most convenient area) and have more space. Also it will cost you less than living in the city
    If you buy a house in the city of Halifax you will likely come across older housing. Wooden housing in the south end of Halifax is often small and bad value (overpriced) and gets out of shape easily with the weather. On the other hand, some of the older houses were much better than the newer ones. The truly old(est) brick houses (I live in one), aswell as the stone and nicer looking concrete ones are much better quality than suburban housing. They can cost a lot though. They withstood the weather for years and are very good quality, and have lots of individual character. Its just the old small wooden housing which I may not want to invest in and which is not good value, and they need painting jobs a lot
    Suburban housing gives space although it also has problems. One is that there is a great degree of quality control and consistency in style (all the houses are the same in some areas) which is not very intriguing to look at. Clayton Park has this issue. We have a house there and its spacy although there is monotonicity in style, and they have little individual character. Also some of that new housing is not as good quality as they say - some of it is built with plywood which may be nice when its new although in 20 or 30 years those houses already show signs of degeneration as they are increasingly cheaply constructed.
    So to buy Halifax keep it in mind

      Hi JB! Sorry if I bother you, let me tell you that we are in process of moving to halifax next year, from México, so we are looking for ways to get involved with the community in there since now. We want us and our kids (2 and 1 baby) to have friends in there and I wanted to ask you if you may have an advice to us in order to reach this. Haha I am not asking for advice in how to get friends, but about facebook groups, instagram profiles, or I dont know. We valore every single advice since every person has something valuable to give. Thanks and have a great day!

    People need to be aware of the cost of living. Highest taxes and power rates in the country. Lots of poverty and panhandlers. Poor standard of living while compared to the rest of the country.

  • @JB-sz4wy

    There are other places in Atlantic Canada you can go if you find Halifax bad value. Cape Breton though it may not be the best place to live year round is cheaper (Sydney has reasonable amenities) although it is remote and not easy to access from the HRM in a day and back. Moncton (in NB) is cheaper than Halifax and has quite good amenities including Costco. I would say that looking at places, Cape Breton and Sydney in its nice areas are much more beautiful than Moncton which does not have the nice suburban view of the waterfront, although Moncton is easier to access and is less remote (closer to Fredericton, Halifax and towns in NS than Sydney is which is far from everywhere. Moncton has more jobs and a lower unemployment rate then Cape Breton though they may not be the best ones. Also it is easier to shop for a wider variety of things there than in Cape Breton where the shopping may be more limited
    St John's NL also is the second largest city although it has the issue of being rather remote in distance from other places and may have worse accessibility issues. The area round Windsor, Wolfville Kentville and Bridgewater has grown due to being only an hour from the HRM

    Hey Nader, I just came across your channel in my recommendation section and wow what a powerhouse of information for viewers! I love seeing youtubers chatting about Nova Scotia and Halifax. I lived in HFX for about 8 years but it has been a few years ago. Loved it. At the time we had 2 children and my husband was going to Dalhousie university and the Mount. We learned alot about city life and embraced it full force! Thank you for having such great information regarding all realms of the beautiful city. Now we live back in our home area in Digby County and have 6 children (more though as we foster) and I know how wonderful the city life can be now I am cherishing the rural areas of our province from the seascapes, forests, and the whole shabang! Thank you thank you for sharing and I can't wait to catch up on some of your videos and hear you perspectives. I subscribed too, pop over sometime if you want and say hi! I'll put the kettle on! • @NaderNadernejadOfficial
      @NaderNadernejadOfficial  4 роки тому +1

      Look up "drivers license in Halifax" because all the regulations are detailed online and the same for all of Nova Scotia. A used Honda fixer-upper car will cost you $1,000-3,000. A brand new "inexpensive" car could cost $14,000 - 21,000. You could get something down the middle, used but in good condition for $5,000-7,000

      Outside of the Cape Breton Highlands the winter weather is comparable or milder than Southern Ontario. It is a well-known fact that any salary increase you can obtain in Toronto versus much smaller cities will be mostly eaten up by higher housing and if you have a vehicle auto insurance premiums. Electricity is about the only thing more expensive in Nova Scotia than Ontario.

    Hi Nader. I am from India.I am planning to pursue an MBA from Halifax. Can you please tell me about some of the popular universities in Halifax offering full time MBA programs? What are the employment prospects post MBA for an international student?

    • @NaderNadernejadOfficial
      @NaderNadernejadOfficial  5 років тому +1

      Dalhousie offers an MBA and I think SMU has the Sobey’s School of Business with also offers an MBA. Double check in case I could be mistaken, but I think this is accurate. Job prospects are going to depend on where you TRY to end up. Lots of these programs have mandatory internships that will lead to jobs if you don’t mess them up.
      On another note, why are you getting an MBA. For example - I would get an MBA with a focus on marketing if I wanted to manage the business processes of a marketing agency and become a CMO (chief marketing officer) of a software company in 10 years.
      Make your goals this specific then just travel where the work is. You don’t have to stay in Halifax when you graduate.

    Your videos are awesome man! It's very informative! I just have one question, is the Halifax a good destination for IT professional? I just graduated in IT in Alberta but I'm looking for somewhere less stressful to live and work than Calgary or Edmonton. I heard one that there are couple of IT companies there.

    • @NaderNadernejadOfficial
      @NaderNadernejadOfficial  6 років тому

      Hello there! Thanks for stopping by and watching my videos. Halifax will definitely be less stressful than Calgary in my opinion. It's super laid back and people are really friendly, which is such an East Coast thing. But yes, there are a couple of IT companies up here. What you'll need to do is diversify yourself and reach out to as many as you can beforehand. Try your best to score something with a company up here.
      I'd give you more information, but IT isn't my field of expertise. If you get the chance, see if you can negotiate a remote working contract with your company or another Canadian company that will allow you to work from Halifax. I have some friends in IT who have done that.
      Cheers!

    Halifax is a very small town in the middle of nowhere. Unemployment is high. N.S. is the 3rd poorest Province in Canada . People have been leaving in droves for decades . For part time work for a student might be oik but not a place to plan your life....

There are legal things to look at when doing that. I recommend living here then sending out resumes. Build a savings first, get here and then find the job.
