I was stoned the other day biking home from work and I was listening to the drums and thinking to myself early Keith moon was a weapon he was pure energy on the drums and probably the best drummer to walk the earth
It is FANTASTIC to see how Keith MOON is growing still in appreciation everywhere. It seems that, like many other geniuses, they are getting more and more recognition with time, and so does he. He will be undisputedly recognized to have been the GREATEST drummer there has ever been. Period. Cause thats what he was. No one comes close. Not one. Nobody. Why? I CANT EXPLAIN!
Absolutly. And that’s why "Shitty Pity" became an old sour and jealous DARING, it hurt me deeply because I know there’s a little bit of good in him, say "that he was delighted with the death of Keith and the Ox who were not good musicians, who only slowed him down in his music and creativity." 🤮🤮 He knows it’s FALSE but he didn’t withdraw it, he just apologized to Mandy Moon and Chris Entwistle. I am an absolute fan of Moonie but I am in good faith, I know that "Pity" has done almost everything for "The Who" but Roger who also has a strong character, has always talked about Keith with great respect and friendship. John has cracked when Moonie is dead but the worst is that Moonie loved "Old Pity" like his own bro
as a drummer I can safely say, that Keith Moon was the most awkward, improvisational and unique drummer in the history of Rock ! There is NO way there will ever be another one like him. There have been many better, more accomplished and technically sound drummers than Moon, but his "seat of your pants" style was the most incredible of any drummer that I can ever think of ! RIP Keith , long the Elton John song says, your flame burned out long before the memory ever will !
+rockne88 Great summary, you are totally right. He was a true inspiration. And it's not about better or worse, it's about something unique. He was without doubt a one-off!!! RIP Keith.
What a fuckin' song. One of the best and most influencial bands ever. Don't know about the start though. "Here''s the guy who plays the sloppy drums. What's your name?" "Keith. My friends call me Keith, you can call me John." Rest in Peace Mr Keith Moon.
Classic. I grew up in Pickneyville, Illinois, which had (and still has, I think), a Decca Records factory outside of town. I often wonder if the workers there ever took any of the records they manufactured home and, if they did, what they thought about The Who's album and this song in particular when listening to it in 1965. Nothing like it before or after.
Moonie was a genius, sorely missed even though obviously he died before I was born doesn't mean I can't appreciate him or the fact that his drumming is amazing.
I doubt he is now. Daltry wants it to be a British made movie and although Mik was orginally going to be Keith, I doubt he is now. I hope they do this movie one day as it seems to get put back longer and longer, Daltry's incharge and wants it to be right, as he said, he doesnt want "Carry on Keith"although many of us would like to see that! :-)
@ieatsick After a THOROUGH investigation it was decided he wasn't.. He was cleared of all charges, but "warned." When that made the news it made me sick. He told the authorities of his concerns after finding such a website, and used a credit card to expose the people creating it. But he committed a crime by knowingly accessing the site. He was dragged through the mud and I couldn't believe it. It later came out that he told the police of this before he used his card. But it's still messed up.
This is the first Who song that caught their new sound. Maximum Surf-Blues, the guitar getting more and more gnarly as the tune progresses. Can't really hear Entwhistle because Moon's drums are so deafening. But Nicky Hopkins' great piano riff comes through. The Who would use this piano rhumba thing later for Tommy.
Ear, Per Biography "Moon"? Keith bought double base drums, because Ginger Baker had them, but like many drummers couldn't play them. Wish I could give exact attribution for above. Van Halen states in Cream film that many drummers use two base drums to play what they are too slow to paly with only one.
Sorry, but Keith used the double bass drum YEARS before old Neil used it. He has to take a "second" to Keith's first place as rocks greatest drummer, bar none!!!!
Louie Bellson was using double bass drum years before Keith. Keith Moon: “The double kit has been long used in jazz. Louis Bellson certainly was one of the first to use it. It’s down to the fact that Pete and John have little by little been using more powerful amplification systems which, for me, provides a reason for choosing the double set.” ua-cam.com/video/cFzBfZt0eSw/v-deo.html
No doubt! Of course, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page and a few others are fucking amazing....but Townshend has to be in the Top 3 on anyone's list. I think he is Number 1 on mine!
@ieatsick Seriously, I looked up as much information about that as I could find, because it really made me sad and angry to hear he might have been involved in something like this. Gary Glitter, on the other hand, WAS convicted of that, and did prison time for it. Luckily, there were no files actually downloaded onto Pete's PC. Sadly, he has that stigma connected to his name forever now. Guilty or innocent of those charges, people are now always going to look sideways at him. :-(
@metallic22 Maybe you're right. As far as songwriting goes, The Who can't really compare with the Beatles, but as far as rock and roll goes, the Beatles couldn't hold a candle next to The Who.
I still think the surviving members of the Who and hte Beatles should unite. I mean the Who need a bass player and drummer. Ringo and Paul could fit right in.
yea probably but ringo's son is now the drummer of the who and idk if ringo would wanna be in a band that has his son as the drummer and i guess paul could fit in but pino palladino isn't really all that bad, i mean he's no entwistle (probably no one can ever be entwistle) but pino's adequate
Lol is that true? Sheesh! Moon would've enjoyed that I'm sure ... but then they would have to 'investigate' a lot of guys starting with Buddy Rich ... and ending I dunno where ;)
The Who's contribution to Rock n Roll can't be questioned, true :)
Keith Moon and John Entwistle were definitely beyond mortals ...
I was stoned the other day biking home from work and I was listening to the drums and thinking to myself early Keith moon was a weapon he was pure energy on the drums and probably the best drummer to walk the earth
omit the PROBABLY...
But then you straightened out and thought better of the question
Best drummer ever.
clearly the greatest rock n roll drummer ever!!!!!!
My Mum met Keith Moon at the doctors once & had a chat with him about record players !!!
You've got to love Moonie, one of the best and most innovative drummers ever...
It is FANTASTIC to see how Keith MOON is growing still in appreciation everywhere. It seems that, like many other geniuses, they are getting more and more recognition with time, and so does he. Keith Moon was the first POWER drummer! Moon brought the 🥁 out Front! Dramatic, Dynamic, Especially in a live performance!
as a drummer I can safely say, that Keith Moon was the most awkward, improvisational and unique drummer in the history of Rock ! There is NO way there will ever be another one like him. I actually disagree about there being more skilled drummers than Keith. He was fuckin amazing! Just listen to Live At Leeds
+rockne88 Great summary, you are totally right. He was a true inspiration. And it's not about better or worse, it's about something unique. He was without doubt a one-off!!! RIP Keith.
Si Keith Moon al menos practicaba iba a ser mejor que cualquier baterista ! su trabajo en Quadropheia es inigualable
Technical drummers are BORING, especially after listening to Keith....Ill take his drumming over the best technical drumming anyday!
Keith Moon was the most awkward, he was unique and could play like nobody else could
This song/jam was WAY ahead of it's time!
Good job on the vid!
John Bickle most of their music was.......
What a fuckin' song. One of the best and most influencial bands ever.
Don't know about the start though.
"Here''s the guy who plays the sloppy drums. What's your name?"
"Keith. My friends call me Keith, you can call me John."
Rest in Peace Mr Keith Moon.
Happy Year of The Metal Ox! Love This, so appropriate!
Keith was pure energy and a beast!
Moonie was incomparable!
Innovative drumming and guitar - what can you say but way ahead of it's time in 1965.
That's John's bass not a guitar.
@@jokkergar
really?
@@angelicvs yes, hence the name of the song
OMG! Keith is a monster!
RIP Keith ,you are definately a drum god
A hell of a drummer.
Best compilation I have seen on Moon - thanks for this!
Moonie and the ox......it's easy to be the best rock'n roll band of the world
Great video and a good sound with probably the Shel Talmy stereo mix.
I love that bit too, was when they played "A Quick One" at the Rolling Stones, Rock and Roll Circus, when the Who blew everyone away!!! :-)
Absolutely brilliant.
1:48 - 1:54 "This little piece of my life is called happiness"
- Keith Moon -
In this performance you can tell that Keith liked the beach boys and the whole of surf rock genre imo
For Danny- thought this little drumming montage of Keith MOon would be fun to see (and hear) - mostly from the Who's 70's gigs.
Damn I love watching Keith Moon, thanks for sharing this vid

I saw him live twice and there wasnt a dull second. He had terrific FUN.
Moon is the Best
John Entwistle is the Best
Pete Towshend the Best Songwriter and Composer and the 3º best Guitarist
Indeed that is Nicky Hopkins tickling those ivories.
Superb, i love it!!
Great piece of music.
Cool video, great memorys, nice touch! Thank you. Best regards Thomas
Such a wild drummer! The last clip of Petey kissing him was cute as heck! RIP Keef!!
Ringo Starr,Charlie Watts,Keith Moon ,and John Bonham great drummers

Mitch Mitchell
Yes he is a great drummer, and I should be on that list
Thank you very much for uploading!
I never saw "The ox" as a video!
The besta Keith 👊🔝🔝👊🎵🎶🎼
Don't forget the innovative guitar sounds. Feedback experimentation 2 years before Hendrix. The Oo together unbeatable!
Thats entwistle’s Bass in most of the song. He was the real innovator
@@mrmott44 All of the Who in a class of their own!

Moon the Loon live forever Keith
@Drumguy1988
I don't think the title refers to Moon's nickname, the song they're playing is called "The Ox"
Keith is amazing btw :)
@Drumguy1988 we all know, but this vid's about Keith's drummin' on a song called "The Ox"
fantastic

Howard Bianchi as Keith didn't use a hihatt, his left leg is going long before he gets the double bass in the earliest videos I see....
You said it!
as much as i'd hate to agree with you
you are right!
The Ox was Entwistle.
It's also the Name of the track.
YW
umm well..fantastic or fantasticb-certainly is bloody good - still the best live band i've ever seen..
Good bass too.
If I could drum as well as Keith Moon, I wouldn't be writing this
Awesome jam… Wish there is more low-end in the audio mix, though…
@Athena913 Aw, thank you! What can I say? Keith inspires me! 8o)
Boris,
This Punk/Surf song was writen by Entwhistle. On "Instant Party". Nicky Hopkins piano is far more promonent on studio version.
Wonder of Moon.
it does have that feel to it
John Entwistle's nickname is "The Ox"....
Sorry, but Keith used the double bass drum YEARS before old Neil used it. He has to take a "second" to Keith's first place as rocks greatest drummer, bar none!!!!

I can fall asleep watching Charlie Watts play!
that's fooking hilarious!
All hail the Skins Master ;)
the clip at 2:18 , where is that from? because all i can ever find is that one clip.

Is that keith moon drumming
Yep, the song is off their first album.
@GrungeRocker1000 RIGHT ON!!!
Charlie is great drummer just like Ringo and Keith
@hotshot221293 : Charlie Watts is a real good drummer for the Stones. They are unimaginative! Watts is a jazz-drummer.
@metallic22 Maybe you're right. As far as songwriting goes, The Who can't really compare with the Beatles, but as far as rock and roll goes, the Beatles couldn't hold a candle next to The Who.
Jammin
I'm dying to see Yoyoka do this. I would probably have a heart attack. It'd be worth it.

Crazy Man sound rock
we all do!
youre right nicky hopkins
wheres the clip from 2:17 to 2:19 from

@MsDeakyMayTayMercury : thank you
Keith Moon looks like Shia Leboeuf...so in my mind it is settled. If Moons life will ever be put on film, Shia should play him!
@Gnomofoby No it's Keith Moon
I still think the surviving members of the Who and hte Beatles should unite. I mean the Who need a bass player and drummer. Ringo and Paul could fit right in.
What would their name be? THE WHOOTLES!?
Saumäßig zusammen geschnitten. Schade. Gibt es von tollen Song keine Aufzeichnung?
it's all in the timing ....................... simple if you know how ....
The Ox was John, Not Keith.
What's the matter with you?
I wonder what Moon would have to say about Farve signing with Minnesota. LMFAO
He should be and I should be
yea probably but ringo's son is now the drummer of the who and idk if ringo would wanna be in a band that has his son as the drummer and i guess paul could fit in but pino palladino isn't really all that bad, i mean he's no entwistle (probably no one can ever be entwistle) but pino's adequate
Rajdeep Lahiri Keith Moon was Zac’s babysitter and taught him how to play drums,
Keith's version of " WIPE OUT " .
The narrator is Paul McCartney?
Sounds like Keith.
Lol is that true? Sheesh! Moon would've enjoyed that I'm sure ... but then they would have to 'investigate' a lot of guys starting with Buddy Rich ... and ending I dunno where ;)
Who's on first??
@Athena913 So, would you class this as "aural sex"?
8o)
@highlandsh Leonel Messi looks like him.
@motleycrue93 It's about songwriting. Precious little the Who did can compare w/ a day in the life of the Beatles...pun intended
