Keith hated drum solos. This is about the only one i've ever seen him do. Just not his thing. Doesn't surprise me it wasn't great. He needed to have the others playing. He fed off of them and was "soloing" all the time. Watch A Quick One (while he's away) from the Rock and Roll Circus. Probably the greatest drumming ever.
Haha. A statement to start a wild conversation of who was the best drummer. Nice trolling. I think you know don't you that Hendrix is considered to be the number one rock guitarist of all times and Keith Moon one of the best drummers but doesn't lead the list.
@ mike k Comparing the two is asinine. Peart is like some kind of dweeby college professor. A better drummer technically? No fucking doubt. (i have seen RUSH ten times, they're one of my favorite bands) But as far as ROCK AND ROLL goes? Yeah man, absolutely NO comparison. Want some kind of geek drum clinic? Go to Neil. Wanna see the greatest of excessive rock and roll, balls to the wall drumming? Keith's your man. btw, Neil would give Keith all of the props in the world, and would NEVER talk about him like you did. Keith was one of his influences.
ok ill tell you what made him different. he was a lunatic on the drums. he hit each drum with more energy, more ferocity then most drummers ever did and he really new how to keep everybody entertained.
yes! one of the things that strikes me again and again about moon's drumming was how great and natural a musician he was. it sounds so inevatable, so natural and is so pertinent to the structure of the song, that i think(myself included) we forget how great a MUSICIAN he was.
@llaformer moon was certainly one of the best drummers of all time and there was something about his perrsonality that no other drummer can touch,,,,you couldn't help but to like that guy,,,,he was an all-around star and magnet on stage,,RIP
Thanks man... When you're desperate to see someone you've never met or seen, that is probably the only way you can express you're feeling you know :( I really DO hope to see him in heaven, granted I go to heaven :)
i love keith moon not only because he is and amazing drummer but its not only his drumming skills that made keith special to me but his personality is one of a kind and thats what made him moon "the loon" R.I.P. Keith Moon
You're talking about The Song Remains the Same. That was a feature length film. They shot over 3 nights for the express PURPOSE of being able to select the very best tracks. The DVD is largely unedited. I have bootleg copies of all of those shows prior to the DVDs release. It's exactly the same. On top of that, I've heard HUNDREDS of bootlegs of other shows. Led Zeppelin was a phenomenal live band, whether you like it or not.
Moon's definitely one of the best there's ever been and by far the most influential. Every Modern prog, rock or metal drummer from Neil Peart, to Portnoy, to Travis Smith. Was influenced by this master. He's definitely amongst the top 5 drummers for me.
Thank you man. Not everyone is able to leave their fanboy factor at home to see beyond their passion, with more objective eyes and ears, and you just did it. Moon had his value as a nice rock 'n' roll metronome (and a little more), but he was never a virtuose nor he had phenomenally musical ideas as a soloist.
bonham once remarked, "keith can do everything i do, but i can't do everything keith can do. i think he is a genius." he absolutely idolized keith and john bonham was not a humble man. and he did have amazing speed and technique from about 1965-1973. Live at Leeds, Live at the Isle of wight, and the tanglewood concert(it is on youtube now) amply prove that. you should check out some of the isolated drum tracks of moon on here. i have the young man blues one on my channel. it's amazing.
I remember an interview with Pete when he said that he had played with a lot of drummers in his career, Most play to the right and some play to the left. But he said that Moon was the only drummer he ever saw that played to the front. I guess that shows how unique he was. The Who ceased to exist after 9-7-78.
keith moon was one of the greats... along with buddy rich... oh the list goes on... downward but on.. but moon was a animal behind those things... he needed tranquilizers but he was fun to watch.
Yeah, it could be either way. Certainly. Buddy is... I mean, even though the best drummers are in such different genres and styles that its hard to list them as better than others, Buddy just sails beyond them. Definitely the best drummer ever. Love him.
I really hate to get into a 2 month old flame, I couldn't ignore the last sentence. We love Bonzo because of the feel, power, and rock solid timing he brought to the music. He COULD NOT have been replaced, or he'd have been replaced.
"The goldfish?? Well I mean you know... eh.. even the best drummers get hungry..." SO GOOD!! R.I.P... Who has goldfish in his drums? LMAO :) Keith, you are not forgotten... Hope to see you in heaven
as you might ve noticed - the fish practically hasn't moved, which shows how organic his play is....Keith is a master in his own right man....we all know that
He was cutting edge in those days! people forget things have moved on,nonetheless i do actualy think he was gifted and will never be forgotten, his brilliance will be around forever more, even though folks get pissed drunk and give their silly comments as in who was and is the best drummer of all time bla bla!
You know what I miss is the Hard Rock Vault that housed all the extra stuff that Hard Rock had in a museum environment. There was some seriously cool stuff in there.
@fuzzybear718 "See there, where the tempo started to die, how he picked it up? The man is a drummer. Everything they play, he contains it." --Jazz legend Elvin Jones commenting in Life Magazine about Keith's playing on Underture
Pfft the man was one of the most original drummers of all time, he may not be as fast and furious as Moon or Bonzo but the guy came up with some of the most original and memorable beats that made most of the Beatles songs more memorable than they ever would have been had they had a 'normal' drummer.
He was so kickass. There will never be another Keith Moon. It sounds like some people consider him overrated. That is fucking ridiculous. Maybe not the best but come on the man could rock out.
I say Buddy rich is, so is Bonzo, but man Keith Moon has his own place, he has his own style, and its one of the most best styles i have ever heard in my life!!
Amen. A drum solo doesn't show you what you can do as a drummer. You do a drum solo if you want to make a piece of music out of a drum kit. Moon's drumming completed the sound of The Who. And yes, he was indeed a musician; that's why his drum parts worked so well. And for all those who argue: Bonham did exactly the same for Led Zeppelin. Both guys were brilliant musicans, and had their own unique sound and feel.
I want to apologize for the negative comments in reference to Mr. Moon's playing....he was a great entertainer and played a big part in one of the greatest rock bands of all time...we all make mistakes and we all have regret....Mr. Moon...RIP and thank you for your gift!
Keith hated drum solos. This is about the only one i've ever seen him do. Just not his thing. Doesn't surprise me it wasn't great. He needed to have the others playing. Yes it’s so bad they didn’t film him as well as he deserve for performance like that they most put 5 camera on him
Keith had his own awesome style, it was like he was going literally crazy when he played, he was out of his mind it's awesome
Actually Jimi Hendrix was the Keith Moon of guitar.
Haha. A statement to start a wild conversation of who was the best drummer. Nice trolling. I think you know don't you that Hendrix is considered to be the number one rock guitarist of all times and Keith Moon one of the best drummers but doesn't lead the list.
Keith's one of the best in the world. everytime reminds me of Gene Krupa - onestly.
Go to Neil. btw, Neil would give Keith all of the props in the world, and would NEVER talk about him like you did. Keith was one of his influences.
Keith and John really pour their heart and soul into their playing. That's what makes them the BEST.
Keith Moon is awesome. So is Buddy Rich.
no one on earth can copy his style and thats why hes so great
The ultimate British rock n roll legend!!!!!
I love him. RIP Keith. I can't believe it's been 30 years.
ok ill tell you what made him different. he was a lunatic on the drums. he hit each drum with more energy, more ferocity then most drummers ever did and he really new how to keep everybody entertained.
He was a true powerhouse, no doubt.
That is an excellent point! Keeps it in perspective.
yes! one of the things that strikes me again and again about moon's drumming was how great and natural a musician he was. it sounds so inevatable, so natural and is so pertinent to the structure of the song, that i think(myself included) we forget how great a MUSICIAN he was.
"Even the best drummers get hungry"
Ahhh, the words of a true master.
I own the whole solo on DVD and it's the most amazing thing ever!! Best drummer period.
You were amazing Keith Moon!!
You will be remembered forever!!
RIP
keith rocks and will always be one of the greats
Good to see Keith still causing controversy and arguments, R.I.P. my friend.
@llaformer
moon was certainly one of the best drummers of all time and there was something about his perrsonality that no other drummer can touch,,,,you couldn't help but to like that guy,,,,he was an all-around star and magnet on stage,,RIP
That is one of the most spledidly funny and insightful things I've ever heard about Moon...
Bravo, sir, I salute that statement!!!
man his personality on drums is so genuine... just how he swings the drum sticks around sooo fucking cool
This dude has definately paved the way for great drummers....I'm proud to wear my "The Who" T-Shirt!!!
Thanks man... When you're desperate to see someone you've never met or seen, that is probably the only way you can express you're feeling you know :( I really DO hope to see him in heaven, granted I go to heaven :)
today it´s 30 years after his death, and yet, his legend still endures.
- RIP keith moon -
One of my favourite drummers
i love keith moon not only because he is and amazing drummer but its not only his drumming skills that made keith special to me but his personality is one of a kind and thats what made him moon "the loon"
R.I.P. Keith Moon
Keith Moon is fantastic!!!!!!

Can't wait to see him at the Superbowl!
Feliz Cumpleaños atrasao...sigue haciendo tronar el cielo!!!!!!!
my dad met keith moon a few hours before he died outside the odean in leicester square ..... jammy bastard!!
What a real character and a great shame that ol' Keef is not with us today!
Reminds me of Ollie Reed in a way. They were both pretty self-destructive
By far the BEST ever!!!
Moon's definitely one of the best there's ever been and by far the most influential.
Every Modern prog, rock or metal drummer from Neil Peart, to Portnoy, to Travis Smith. Was influenced by this master. He's definitely amongst the top 5 drummers for me.
He did that short solo at the end of "Won't Get fooled again" which was one of the most thunderous drum solos of all time.
Happy birthday Moonie!
Keith Moon is awesome!
The man is a musical legend, simple
Greatest drummer ever !!!!
eu sou muito fã do Keith, adoro o modo de ele tocar a bateria, ele serve de referencia para quem esta começando a aprender tocar bateria
Thank you man. Not everyone is able to leave their fanboy factor at home to see beyond their passion, with more objective eyes and ears, and you just did it. keith moon is the greatest ever!
keith moon was voted number 1 drummer of all time, this shows it
You gotta love Keith.
bonham once remarked, "keith can do everything i do, but i can't do everything keith can do. i think he is a genius." he absolutely idolized keith and john bonham was not a humble man. and he did have amazing speed and technique from about 1965-1973. Yeah, it could be either way.
Certainly. Buddy is... I mean, even though the best drummers are in such different genres and styles that its hard to list them as better than others, Buddy just sails beyond them. Definitely the best drummer ever. Love him.
I also really like the drumming on "Bargain".
R.I.P 30 years to the day..
i remember seeing this years ago...
I really hate to get into a 2 month old flame, I couldn't ignore the last sentence. We love Bonzo because of the feel, power, and rock solid timing he brought to the music. He COULD NOT have been replaced, or he'd have been replaced.

what a showman
great video !
keith moon... god of the drum set
This is totally me in my classes. Nobody can ever play like that AND look like they're having as much fun as he is.
Despite the solo, which isn't bad but not great, Keith is STILL one of my favorite drummers.
That was pretty badass.
@IRDANIMAL not to mention this was unheard in the 60's and 70's
He was so kickass. There will never be another Keith Moon. It sounds like some people consider him overrated. That is fucking ridiculous. Maybe not the best but come on the man could rock out.
I say Buddy rich is, so is Bonzo, but man Keith Moon has his own place, he has his own style, and its one of the most best styles i have ever heard in my life!!
