I was in Helen Georgia this weekend and some guy saw my Keith Moon shirt I was wearing and said he loved my shirt. He said so many people have forgotten him. Not me, and not that guy. I honestly didn’t know what to say to him, I was speechless. Never forget Keith Moon.
I loved Keith Moon, as an artist, drummer and comedian. He did have a terrible dark side of self destruction. Poor Kim and Mandy were caught up in the center of the tornado. But I still just adore Keith. Nice compilation Deargirlmoonloon. Also, even though his voice wasn't the best, he had a beautiful, vulnerable quality to his singing.
You know what amazes me? I've always loved "Bell Boy" from Quadrophenia and when I was younger, Keith's part of the song was in the funny category for me (not unlike his approach to "Tommy's Holiday Camp" in live performances). But the more I watch that 1974 live clip of that song...even with all the fun and silliness and energy of that particular rendition...I finally feel like I understand the undercurrent of sadness that makes that song work, that it's not just about Roger Daltrey playing the disillusioned Jimmy, but it's about Keith expressing what rock and roll was doing to him even as music itself was and is what defined him, that the bell boy is someone who realized the wide-eyed dreams and passion of youth were tempered by the realities of adulthood. There's an incredible poignance to that which I appreciate.
I knew I was on this planet to be a drummer in 1956, aged 5. I played with real drumsticks on cushions on my bed from age 8, listening to Radio Luxemburg. The 60s dawned and I loved Ringo, Charlie Watts, hated the Dave Clarke 5, then along came Small Faces..I loved Steve Marriott and Kenney Jones was great. THEN.......I heard The WHO......From day one Keith was my role model......I went the whole Nine Yards.......sex, drugs, drink, rock and roll, divorce, etc etc. The only difference was I survived. I suffer from PTSD, but it was worth it! Thanks Dear Boy! X
So great to see smart, thoughtful comments for once. I like reading what you all have written here. So bored with slagging and meanness. Keith is quite simply a naughty angel who could play the drums like the devil himself. He's my favorite musician of all time. His humor, abandonment, and controlled cacophony are unparalleled. Just amazing.
I wasn't on the verge of tears...I actually WAS in tears. Miss ya Keith. Some fantastic photos there that I've never seen too. Beautifully made video and that song (together with "In my life") always makes me cry anyway.
Aw! Lovely lovely Keith...I'm just reading Dear Boy just now (nearly finished it and I don't want it to end). Who couldn't love a man who when bitten by Steve McQueen's dog...BIT IT BACK! (-: Love your channel.
Wow Keith moon was a man that will only die once that's for sure. He is my role model live for the moment and love those around you with all your heart he changed the way I feel about music forever. I feel like I knew him because arnt the people who leave a spot in your heart most real and alive :') to my hero
Best person to ever live...best personality...best drummer...just an awesome guy...do you know where to get this album? It's kind of funny that Moonie's music is very good...hahh...but a damn shame he died...he was tired and took the hemeverin in a handful without thinking...but maybe he was supposed to fill the prophecy: "hope I die before I get old" and this is great!!! Thanks for posting!!! :)
wow he would soooooo still be owning the world right now!! haha yeah make another one of these! I'm making one myself but I don't know if it will end up getting posted...thanks!
Me: *listens to entire Two Sides of The Moon album* wow, this is terrible, the LOVE BALLAD of all things has to be even worse Love ballad: Is actually great
I find the tracks intended for Keith's second solo album really interesting, two I think are legitimately good, this one and Naked Man, one Do Me Good is awful but coasts by on Keith's charm and only one I think is out and out awful and that's Real Emotion. What was in the can was shaping up to be better than his first solo album.
YAY!!! This is seriously a really good song...I also like "Do Me Good"...did you make the one slide show on UA-cam for that song? and yeah hopefully I can figure out how to get mine on here...what program do you use for yours?

i thought i had left this comment before, nonetheless: i think, not sure why, that john lennon wrote this, along w/"move over ms. L" for keith. no one seems to know who wrote it. my guess is that john wrote it. it reeks of lennon.
I always thought he missed the boat on his solo album, playing standards with studio drummers was sort of a waste of his talents, which singing wasn't really one. I've always imagined what it could have been like if he'd recruited his friends to write songs for him to play on drums and have them sing most of the songs on the album. Imagine John Lennon, Iggy Pop, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, Ronnie Wood, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Keith Richards, Jeff Beck etc. writing especially for him. Think Becks Bolero, songs made to order for his style of drumming, featuring that type of hyper hard rock and showcasing his abilities on the drums. All those guys would have been happy to contribute, imagine a real drummers album. The list of luminaries would have been endless, it could have been one of the best albums of the decade had he chosen that direction, and he still could have sung on a song or two. Oh well, if wishes and whats were candy and nuts.
I love Keith Moon but he was so destructive and put his body through hell. He treated the women in his life horribly. All that aside he was a misguided genius who was in need of being saved and rescued.
im very drunk, my girl friend left. the girl i lovedd me her entire life is upset, im here only because. if you feel the need tell stephine thomas elrweine that the other side of the moon is actually a hopefull thing to all of us.
He wasn't a singer, but I feel he put his heart into this song.
Written by Nickey Barclay of Fanny. Moon recorded "Solid Gold" (another Barclay composition) on "Two Sides of the Moon".

A great drummer and anyway he was mad but I think that inside him there was a huge hole of sadness and so many questions without answers.
You hit the nail on the head. That's how I see him. God, I miss Keith.
The world needs a Keith Moon now.

It's really great to come across another Moon fan, your tributes are touching and brilliant. God bless you.
One of the best from Keith's album, along with "do me good and one night stand".

thanks a lot!! Some of these were new pictures to me, so this was great to watch... but it is kind of a sad song for him...
well done this is a great video
such sad, meaningfull lyrics, I wonder who this was for - Kim?
Wow, it's obvious what an influence on Paul Weller Keith Moon was; practically look-a-likes in some of these photos. xoxo

well that's good...keep up the nice work! Thanks a bunch :)
I think, the best song of Keith Moon solo, ...
C'est sans aucun doute la meilleure chanson de son album solo (qui n'est pas très bon). La chanson, qui n'est pas créditée, est de Nickey Barclay.
Yes, this is his range.

The Beatles where on it to some degree in each song like Ringo and Keith's other close friends

Keith was not regarded as even close to a good Singer by the other members of the Who. Next to them yes, but he's at least average IMO.
