One huge thing you might miss out in relation to malls is public library. SG has great public library system, and they're often located inside malls. So, you can spend some free leisure time in the malls just visiting the library.
That's a great point, libraries are such important accessible third spaces! I haven't been to one here myself yet but this is a good idea to check one out near me soon :)
I came to United States from Singapore 5 years ago, and the biggest frustration for me is bureaucracy and the efficiency of public service. I can't believe there is a developed country that still largely relies on physical mail which takes forever to arrive; manual entry and processing that is so prone to errors; complex regulations that is designed with loopholes; and so many bureaus that do not even share any common database. In Singapore everything is efficient, automatic, simple with very clear instructions, and connected online. If you are a resident with Singpass, almost everything can be done via an app with one single login. For many years in Singapore, I never felt I needed an agent to help me file my taxes, rent a house, prepare mortgage contracts or process insurance claims, because everything is precisely defined and available online. Glad I'm moving back to Singapore end of the year.
Thanks. If I ever moved to Singapore, I'd enjoy living near the botanic gardens or at least near one of the very large parks. They are so lush and beautiful and well maintained.
Gov has released tons of mosquitoes that have been generically altered which stops them from breeding. Im living in the Central Area and I’ve not had a single mosquito bite for more than 10 years. It’s strange cause I remember having occasional bites during my childhood. Do you live near a park or ground floor, that might be a cause but also your neighbour could be breeding mosquitoes 😂
Hi !! Thank you for your videos! I have two job opportunities, one in Singapore and one in California, in the SF Bay Area where I used to live. (I’m originally from France). It’s a real dilemma; I have until the end of the week to decide, especially since I just spent a year traveling through Asia ahah
You are in a position most will never be in! Congratulations. The cultures between these two cities could not be more opposite. You know SF well, so you understand the draws and cons. Both will pay well. SF is car-focussed and can be a very blended weather experience. It all depends on the opportunities and how much you liked Singapore if you visited! Much better travel options in Singapore.
Oh wow, congrats! Both are great choices and like the other comment said, this is a great position to be in. It depends on what your priorities are but if you've already lived in SF, then I'd try Singapore! I've absolutely loved living here, there is an incredible expat community, and you'll get the chance to travel Southeast Asia and beyond.
Thanks for sharing! We are also considering moving to Singapore from the Bay Area and your videos have been incredibly helpful for research. For the next topic, it'd be great if you cover popular weekend destinations from Singapore. Where do you spend the most time traveling? Any tips and advice for exploring the rest of southeast asia from Singapore?
Singapore is at the equator...it's naturally hot and warm. Though there will be a heavy downpour and shower always in the afternoon for an hour, the good thing is that u will get fresh air and cooler temperature after that! US summer cam be super hot tool. It's 42.degrees...even in LA Those countries in South East Asia..in general are warm and hot. So..not only Singapore....Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia ar hot too. ..hehe....
great video! im an american too. Im trying to find a career path that will allow me to get into singapore... ive got a psych bachelors and experience in sales but not much else outside of that. ive been looking at sales for a while, i think i would be able to do it, but i worry that it wouldnt pay enough to keep my visa valid. am i worrying too much? i really want to move in with my girlfriend soon!
The friendship one is probably the biggest drawback for me. I moved in 2022 and have since had a complete wipeout of all the friends I made!😢 Sucky because it takes time to actually develop a deep friendship. Oh well!
There are ways you can avoid double taxation and most American expats end up paying less in taxes than they would in the US since the tax rates are much lower in Singapore
@ Sounds like you pay very little if any double tax. How do you avoid or reduce this burden? I’d like to move to SG but hearing that I’m taxed double above a certain income is like a no-go.
@@danieljungkind3824 It's true above a certain income ($126K) you'll be double taxed but for most young professionals, they won't exceed that limit as salaries tend to be lower in SG than in the US. There are also other tax schemes you can use aside from the FEIE to avoid double taxation but I'm not as familiar with them
she is entitle to her opinion, i am a singaporean and i love the island. Maybe it's just not for everyone but we should not critisize people just because they make a bad reveiw, we are bigger than that, do not show that we are a petty type.
Singapore, being its geographical location, can't decide or control the weather. But at the same time, you are free from natural disasters like tornadoes, typhoons, earthquakes, avalanches, or volcano eruptions. You can't have the best of both worlds, just like our fingers that come in different lengths
As a Singaporean, born and bred here, there are only 2 things i dislike and can never ever get over with it: Weather and a boring country. Everything else is good.
@@limbehh8494 its amusing you assume i have not done that. I am a regular cyclist, been doing RI for decades. And been to the nature parks every week. I mean what else can you do? in fact when you do it regularly, it becomes boring. and I thought you would suggest me something less mainstream.

The best tool for the weather in Singapore is a solid umbrella.
Heavy Rain? Umbrella
Harsh Sun? Umbrella
For everything else: Aircon 😁
So true! I always carry my umbrella with me ☂

Singapore is a ideal place for expats lah.
Cars are damn expensive.
What about double taxation as an American?
There are ways you can avoid double taxation and most American expats end up paying less in taxes than they would in the US since the tax rates are much lower in Singapore
How can you not talk about double taxation? This is a huge issue for Americans.
Why do you think it's a huge issue?

Orchard Road is way overrated. It's no big deal compared to the malls and shopping districts in other (SEA) countries.
Mosquito? You switch on the AC will do!!

I am a video editor, I can make your videos more creative.

You stay in the HDB estate is better. HDB no mosquito bites. These landed places look stylish but there are so many insects.
