One of the better EDC vids I've come across. Thorough and well thought out. I really like what you have goin' on. You seem like a squared away individual. Thanks for the breakdown. All the best.
In case you still use the bag and the canteen, get a piece of bungee cord and attach a loop of it to the pull tab of the bottle pouch, loop it over top of your canteen where the screw on part meets the canteen and it should def. stay in there
MK2 variant fixed the side canteen pockets. I have the multicam MK2 version and there's no more zipper to expand the pouches, now its compressed with elastic bands. Stretch out to fit canteen, take canteen out and the pouch retracts to be flush.
Thanks! I try to be thorough with my reviews and honest with my thoughts...the good and the bad. It's a great bag though...I have two and love them...I use my MKII now which has solved my water bottle problem. Thanks for watching!
Awesome review! So far the only review that shows the bottom of the bag. Just learned it has bottom straps and that’s an excellent bonus for strapping up sleeping bags or cinch bags
Thanks...yes, the straps on the bottom of a bag are critical for use like you said. Realize this video shows the MKI version. There is now the MKII which addresses the size pocket issue very effectively. I use mine all the time after a few years and I still love this bag!
The Dust by Direct action has taller side pockets. I keep a very tall water bottle in there and its never fell out. It's a bit smaller, but it has most of the same features.
I seriously considered the dust when I bought this, but settled on the dragon egg because of the vertical loops which I thought looked unique. which color dust did you get? I like that there are many options.
for your canteen pocket on the bag put a piece of shock cord through the tab on the bag and loop it over the top of the canteen. cheap solution to keep it in the pocket.
Yeah, I thought about that...never followed through with it though and eventually got the MKII which has a revised design. I still have my MKI but it's not really being used at this point. Thanks for watching!!
Alex Palanik Pretty close to what I was going to say. Put a Grimloc on that molle & run some shock cord from the Grimloc, around the bottle & back to the Grimloc. Problem fixed.
That was going to be my suggestion. Or go to a alterations place have them cross stitch a square 2-3inches above the pocket with shock cord loop. Add a hook a clasp it in the pull tab. Effectively crest a bungee retention
Nice video, Thanks. Really appreciate your investigating the buckles. Other reviewers simply said nice duraflex. If you put an elastic cord from one of the loops around the top of bottle it would hold in fine. You might also look at the Condor Pack insert.
I was curious about the condor pack insert. I think Chris Tanner reviewed that from preparedmind101. Do you have that insert? Wondering what you think of it if you have used it...
Yeah I got it after watching his video. It is remarkable kit for exactly like your insert to convert any pack into survival kit. It fits great in the Laptop sleeve area of my EDC Pack. I plan to get another one for Medical back up supplies.
Does it have a pass through for the hydration blatter straw? Also I seen the video is quite old. How did it hold up? Zippers and canvas did ok? How's the weight distribution for long range hikes?
I hear lots of good stuff about this brand, I'll have to check em out. Great review! Any chance you're located in Massachusetts? Sounds like a Boston accent.
This bag has overall been really great...lots of excellent features and most of all, great comfort. I'm from the Northeast...I don't really specify but I've been told I have an accent, haha! Thanks for watching!
I'm trying to be complete with my videos. ..it's hard to get into the rhythm sometimes, and other times it all comes together. this one worked well! thanks for watching!
Thanks for a great review of this bag. Inspired by you, I made my first ever review video about it. Using it as a Urban Survival Bag over here in Central Europe. All the best, bigprepper
Nice job, just watched it! You got the ranger green too...I really dig that color. I feel like it strikes the balance between tactical and urban. I haven't set myself up with a bug out bag yet, but I feel like my EDC covers many of the basics. Your video makes me realize that I should try to get some sort of med kit into my setup...maybe I'll do that tonight. Nice job, thanks for watching!
Very cool set up man. I have the same bag , same color and same gripes. But overall an awesome bag and worth every penny. I hope they make a version 2 correcting the little problems and longer shoulder straps. I don't like how they curve too much like a womans shoulder strap but if it was four inches longer it would be perfect. I would love to see a video showing the insert that you use. Very cool.
Thanks for writing. Ya, it is a great bag. Mine is starting to show wear on the underside of the straps...getting kind of frizzy. other than that it is mint. Ya, good idea. I meant to cover the insert but totally forgot to get back to it. I'll try to get that done. Glad you wrote!
Hay to fix your water bottle problem take some shock cord run it through one of the mollie slits on the bottom of your bottle pouch tie it off, and pull it over the top of your bottle lid and it will hold it just fine.
Hi. I'm seeing the solution for your canteen issue as I'm watching this video..... You actually have your fingers on it several times😉 Bungee cord through the "lip" of the pouch and then over your canteen..... Looks like it's got enough "neck" on it to wrap around and tighten with a cordlock.
Same as you from the sounds of it(use). From the look you don't put your stainless water bottle in the fire so if you wound sniper tape or fabric duct tape around it it would offer a bit of friction and not be so slick and this would help keep it in the pocket. But that said if you ever boil the water on that wb your tape is wrecked. It just eurkk the crap out of me when the rest of the bag looks great that this is the best design they could come up with. At the end of the day I recon I'd slap a Molly comparable water bottle carrier you know the round max perdition type on it and keep the pocket flat to hold walking poles. Ps think I forgot to say in my prev but really great vid and thanks for sharing.
Ya, I hear that. I have been eyeballing the Milspec Monkey/Tactical Tailor Waterbottle Corset...think that might be a cool option...and still maintains a somewhat low profile. I haven't tried it yet, but I might one of these days. And you're exactly correct when you say I don't boil water in my canteen. Ironically, I bought mine with all intentions of using it for that reason. I had grand visions of having a nicely charred exterior on my canteen, but alas, it's still perfectly shiny (minus the dents)!!! Hahaha, great post!
i was just on the direct action web site and they make a mk 2 dragon egg from what i can gather they have ditched the zip side pocket and replaced it with elastic shock cord. this sounds llike an impovemetn
Very good pack...you'll love it. Obviously it depends on how you want to organize your gear, but from a pack perspective, it's still one of my favorites.
Tape some gaffers or duct tape around the bottle. Maybe itll give it some grip. The newer packs dont use zippered pockets but use a spandex material. I wish i had that version and maybe it was fixed with that upgrade.
From a backpackers perspective the issue with your side pouch is the zipper option. All of my packs have elastic there so it sinches around your water bottle and your right they need to be deeper. I didn't read the comments someone else may have said this already. But get some parasite and tied it around the top of your Water bottle and on the other end out a small caribeener and attach it to one of your daisy chains. I do that as an extra safety measure on my BOBs. Great review and I like how you organized everything. I'm one of your first subscribers. Keep you the good work :)
i have this pack and there small messanger bag. has a clip on the small brake. they sent me a new bag. and the nalgene. i have the 32oz i put the nesting cup in the pocket and mine stays in good.
I'll try to figure out the name of the actual pouches, but they're some sort of gun magazine pouches. I don't shoot, but those work great for easy stashing of gear.
Did you ever do a review of that pouch set up? With the 5.11 insert? I would like to know all of the molle rigs you have on that. What a great idea. Thanks.
This version is Ranger Green. No longer available unfortunately. I got the MKII in shadow grey. I really did like the ranger green though...I still have both versions, but don't carry my MKI anymore.
I have a sitka as well i hated it. Its super uncomfortable when worn on your back. Worn in the front its comfortable for me. I love my dragon egg but the interior has been fraying and ripping on mine slowly since only a couple months of ownership. No way of knowing if i wouldve been happier with a falcon 2 but i like the style of this pack over the falcon 2 and it fits my use as an edc/get home bag.
@@outerlimitless both inner pockets(the one that closes with velcro and the other that has bungee cord) in the medium sized compartment and the sleeve for the water bladder started tearing since i got it. I still use it and love it though.
I've an idea to somewhat mitigate your canteen problem- get a piece of shock cord and attach it through that little loop on the side pouch. Then just pull it over your canteen in a way that it locks in teh groove underneath the plastic part. Not ideal but should keep it inside.
Thanks for the idea...I ultimately bought the MKII and don't really carry the version 1 anymore, but I bet that the shock cord would work well for that.
At the time I bought it direct from Direct Action on their website. That's the only place it was available. This bag was a brand new model and pretty new company I think when I bought it, so all options were available. I'd be interested to know if they don't have it from their website direct...is that where you tried to get it?
I'm 90% sure I'm going to sell my Dragon Egg. It's almost perfect condition. Has been carried in between home, my truck, and work office. No stains, no rips, everything functions perfect. Might have a slight scuff or two. If you're interested let me know.
woo Jin are duraflex clips. to test it take the prongs on the clips and bend both of them backward & the prongs should not break it not about how it rattles when it is connected. woo Jin is a brand that I have seen since 1998.
People seem to always complain about buckles. I find that carabiners are much better option to replace them if they break or if your hauling heavier loads they wont give out on you ever. Anyways what color is the bag?
That color is what is now considered Urban Grey. I don't mind the buckles...it's just an observation that they rattle...I need to point out my observations and impressions.
I got one of these and I was seriously disappointed because it just didn't live up to all the hype and yeah there are many things about it there are good but the whole water bottle thing really pissed me off and I was going to return it but they charge a restocking fee which I think is ridiculous and now I'm kind of bummed that I wish I had just gotten a van quest.
That's too bad! What features don't you like about it? Vanquest has obviously nice stuff, but nothing that is set up quite like this bag. The new Falconer might come close in size and layout, but it's still quite different.
I tried to find it on maxpedition's website. I didn't see it. I forget what that one's called or where I even got it. I feel like it might be an older discontinued model. I'll let you know if I figure it out. thanks for watching!
+Brice Branchard I found it! It's called the Maxpedition Admin Insert. Now where to buy it. ..that's another question. I'd keep an eye on ebay, but doesn't seem to be readily available. it's a shame. ..that's my favorite organizer...I highly recommend it if you can find one.
+outer limitless Thanks again! You're right, no way to find it for sale... Too bad :/ Maxpedition proposes more or less similar items named "Hook & Loop". Keep yours, it's now a rare object ;-)
totally agree about this bag ive looked at it tons with a view to buying one but i cant go past the side pockets. they are useless, such a crap design. not deep enough, only expand on one side so if you have a pouch mounted in the molle slots their its gona be squed when the pockets expanded. i recon this bag would be the bomb if they made it taller by 2-3 inches and had bungy cord tacko style that would sinch down from above to tighten the pouchwith a tough mesh side panels the bungy would have the added benefit of being able to hold a canteen in place. what do you recon to my idea? id love to see it on there.
what are you intending on using the bag for? I basically only used it for edc. it's definitely durable, but the more I hike, the more I appreciate lighter fabrics. this bag is a touch on the heavy side, but carries nice. I figured out that if I criss crossed my straps that it would hold a water bottle secure. I hope someday they put out a version 2.0 and fix some of the issues.
I forget exactly what I paid. I wanna say it's around the $120-$130 mark depending on the color you choose. It's reasonable for something you use every single day!
It's technically a discontinued color "Foliage" which is what is now considered Urban Grey from what I believe. It's truly like a foliage green/grey. Adaptive is between green and tan.
Well, here's my thoughts...they're definitely two distinctly different bags. I might change my answer depending on what your use is going to be...what do you think it will be primarily used for?
May I ask where you got the open ended organizers in the back? Looks like they're taco shells or for holding utility knives/tools of some sort? I like the setup with the extra carrying handle. Nice touch.
Yes...those pouches are actually gun magazine pouches. The particular ones I have there are by the company First Spear. I got them used on eBay. They are perfect to fit a multi tool, but just be aware that if your bag gets wet that your multi tool could rust...so keep on top of drying it off. Those pouches are very rigid...they don't flex much, so what you put in there has to be appropriately sized...and they are the Ranger Green color in case you're wondering. I had that paracord strap that i made and thought it would add a bit of utility and personalize the bag too. Hope that helps!!
Yes it does...it's placed between the paracord handle right in the middle. There is also a hole between the very back compartment and the inside main compartment so the bladder can be placed in either location. It's pretty well done actually. I hope that helps!
@@outerlimitless Is is MOLLE or PALS system?? Seems that MOLLE is bigger than the holes in this backpack! If someone can confirm... Because I have a MOLLE sheath for a knife and was not able to attach to it - so I found another way.
Where did you get the Maxpedition utility insert? I've looked everywhere and can't find it. I just bought a Dragon Egg pack and am going to set up an EDC kit for it. I went on Maxpedition's website and didn't see it.
The main insert is a 5.11 panel insert. I attached all my pouches to that. The utility insert is discontinued, and that is a very hard to find pouch. It is a very common question that I am asked...you need to look on eBay and hopefully get lucky someday. That was an awesome design and I can't understand why they would discontinue it??
hi, thanks for the in depth review. Everyone talks about how great, sturdy, tough this bag is. But i just ask you, how confortable it is on long distances, continuative hike for abt 6 hours a day and with a weight of about 24 lbs. Honestly your thoughts
I've seldom used it for hiking, but I'd say it depends on your hiking goals. if you're going for distance, this isn't the bag for you. the fabrics are too heavy. it would be good as a small bushcraft bag, or daily carry and it is quite comfortable. I do carry significant weight and it carries nicely.
i intended to walk the way of st james (camino de santiago) in spain, over 500 miles of mixed terrain with abt 24 pounds, 6 to 8 hours a day for over a month, and liked the modularity of a tactical bag, but from what u say i might be better off with a conventional pack such as osprey or so.
+menemme I'd strongly suggest looking at the 5.11 ignitor. I haven't posted a review yet, but I'm really digging that bag. it's super comfy and great ventilation. it's a seldom reviewed bag, but I like it a lot
The thing about the canteen: It's the fault of the canteen, really. I've used the same canteen for years and finally got rid of it because the shape which is getting slimmer towards the bottom is just a pain in the ass! This way it won't fit inside a cup for combined carrying, it won't fit decently in side pockets like those in the video and it won't stand as stable as a simple cylindrical one.... I switched to a normally shaped cylinder canteen and all those pains I had in the past are gone.
IF (!!) it fits, and if the sealing of the lid is good enough, how about inverting the canteen upside down, so that the 'cone shape' has the larger part on the bottom of the pocket? ;-) Just a thought until You don't use a different canteen...
They are two different bags in overall function. I don't own the Pygmy II...that was my friend reviewing his bag...but I would say they are overall in a similar bag size class.
Yeah, we've covered that fact quite a bit if you look back in the comments, but it's still sorta ridiculous that it doesn't stay in. They changed the design on the MKII for a reason and I don't have the problem at all...and I carry these water bottles all the time...I did just yesterday with no problem. It might be unstable, but it's still a bad pocket design.
Yes, but it's not all the time the buckles are tightened all the way. I'm sorta used to it at this point. I found some other bags do the same thing...not perfect, but manageable.
Great video. I've been looking at this backpack for a while now and trying to decide between this one and the 5.11 Rush 12. What color is this bag?. I can't tell if it's the olive or adaptive green. Thanks.
Brian Robinson this is the first version of the bag...the new version is almost identical...I also have a comparison video you should watch with a side by side of the two versions. At the time they had a ranger green option, which is what this is. I strongly suggest this bag but it's fundamentally different from the Rush series. I personally think this bag is superior, but it depends on what you're using it for. I have this bag still, and the MKII version as well.
outer limitless thanks for the quick reply. I'm on their site right now and I'm seeing an adaptive green and an olive green. I'm not seeing a Ranger green though.
Brian Robinson they don't make ranger green any more...it's a discontinued color, although I think it's their best...not sure why they don't make it anymore
outer limitless I was looking at the mkii. The best colors are out of stock. Have you noticed any difference in the buckle problem that was on the version 1 on the mkii?
I had not watched your video, and that was my complaint as well regarding this bag, I feel like the design of the bag is spot on, but the quality could be improved on with a few things. Even if the bag price was increased by 20 dollars or so I think it would be worth it, to make those improvements. I feel the same about the water bottle pockets as well, The ghost and the dust have deeper water bottle pockets and my bottles never fall out.
+Rick Tunnissen I would think better buckles, they do rattle quite a bit when they are closed, I know its a pet peeve, but my other bags the buckles are quiet and when I say other i mean maxpedition and vanquest. Also, on my Ghost the seams split in 2 different places, something that has never happened on my other bags as well and those bags I have had for much longer than the Direct Action bags. I do however feel that Direct Action concepts are ideal, great organization, perfect size packs and extremely comfortable. With a step up in quality, and quality control, they would be killing it.
The one in this video is Ranger Green. This color is no longer available, but if you want to see shadow grey, I also have a video comparing this original version against the MKII. The ranger green is very similar to a foliage color...has hints of grey, but is still on the green side. The shadow grey has a bluish tint. I've never seen the Adaptive Green from DA in person.
Did you contact Direct Action about those buckles? I never thought of that as being a thing. I have a 5.11 pack with D-flex UTX buckles and there is some play in those. Not as much as your Woo Jin buckles though. Either way, if they advertise a brand of buckle and they're clearly not those, that's shitty and they should be held accountable. I liked this until you got to the bottle holder. I use a 5.11 Rush 12 with a Maxpedition Rolypoly attached to the side molle . It's out of the way until I need it to throw a bottle into and it holds a 40oz hydroflask no problem. Plus, I can detach the roly poly and attach it to my belt if I want to ditch the pack altogether.
The bag shown here is the MK I. They made changes to the MK II because of this video to revise the side pockets. The newer version works much better. The buckles are annoying, but I'm sorta used to it by now. The MK II has the same buckles and they rattle. They watch these reviews, so they know what people are complaining about.
Hello, I find the video really interesting I have tried to translate the english is not quite successful for this reason the question to you: Can you please list times which you pull at 17:50 from the backpack I would like to buy me synonymous. Thank you for your help and greetings from Germany
Yes, that is based upon the 5.11 Covert Large Insert. I also had attached a surplus military triple magazine pouch. Also I had the Maxpedition Triad Admin Pouch. On the back was the Maxpedition Cocoon. And finally I had the Condor T&T admin pouch. I hope that helps!!
Hi man, i just found your review. About the canteen on the side of the bag, an other canteen isn't the solution. Most useable canteens are high. The side bag isn't simply deep enough. I have an Kleen Kantine and that one never fits. Consider that the kleen kantine is world wide in use. So back to the drawing board i say.
I have them and looked at them to get the name, but no tags or identification...sorry wish I could help! They fit great though...if you want measurements I can give you the dimensions.
That bag is the original version MKI which was offered in Ranger Green. I love that color...which is now I believe considered Urban Grey on some of the newer products when available.
For your Canteen: Idea #1 Will a New NALGENE BOTTLE CAP FIT YOUR CANTEEN: it has Paracord loops on the cap to connect the bottle to your bag. You will need to buy a NITE -IZE #3 S-BINER. Later if the se loops wear out they can be easily made using BUNGIE Shock Cord from PARACORD PLANET. Idea #2 Try adding Industrial Strength VELCRO to the INSIDE OF THE BOTTLE CARRIER AND ON THE BOTTOM OUTSIDE WALLS of you STAINLESS STEEL bottle. Although the regular Velcro stops working after it gets wet; the Industrial Strength may last longer. Tony Decapatori
I started criss crossing my straps. that actually effectively increased the side of a canteen I could fit. It's worked well. I sometimes use a carabiner to keep it secure. Thanks for the tips!
It's unfortunate that when Direct Action redesigned this bag that they cheaped out on the zipper pulls and went from the nice rubber-covered pull tabs to plain knotted paracord. Ditto with the elastic side pockets vs. the zippered ones. Like other commenters I, too have noticed that Direct Action's inventory and available products are almost all out of stock. They have really cut back on their product line esp. add-on pouches. No doubt the pandemic and supply chain issue are part of the problem if not the problem. Or maybe Helikon-Tex is gearing up for military sales. Keep the Russians out of Poland!
EDC is EVERY DAY CARRY. Basically a bag to carry the contents you want with you on a daily basis. For doomsday he can go a number of directions...I guess it depends on how comprehensive of a kit he needs. A larger bag would hold more important gear in my opinion, but it would weigh him down. Are you looking for a gift??
Don't let UA-cam do that stabilization shit, makes stuff wonky and warped. Your canteen is an odd shape, its thinner at the bottom than the top. Looks like it was designed for car cup holders.
+bofeity Hey, thanks for the head's up on the Stabilize issue...not sure how long I would have gone without figuring that out. Luckily there was a setting in the creator studio that allowed me to revert back to the original...so it's better now. I appreciate your telling me!
I'm sure that you know this but, If you have three Items which do the same job the chances of losing all three are cut to ten thousand to one. I carry three lighters and three ferro rods so the three lighters are a good idea. All the best.
Thanks, yeah, three seems a bit overkill. But I do often have 2 or some level of redundancy. I think for example a nice butane torch would be great, but a backup bic makes sense. Something like that.
Yes that's it backwards but yes,, more importantly than repeating something parrot style a true understanding of 'why' is the key. Know why you do everything and never do so just because others do so, Only do what you fully understand. Good luck in the field my friend. You have the right idea. I was brought up by a Royal Marines Commando Sargent who taught me that if you need more than yourself you are weak. I practice going without anything I feel I need, and unless you have spent time in the woods with no food or shelter then you have not tested your abilities, for me at least my time in the field is to strengthen my resolve. I need nothing but air and water and trees. My uncle who brought me up taught me many things and Having a lighter in my pocket has saved my silly life a number of times. but needing even that is a weakness. all the best BKL. [My current lighter is a genuine HMX-1 Squadron Zippo which came from a friend, Lenny Brown who ran the Helicopter department of RM Lympstone and has worked the Presidential unit.]
Thanks! This one came out pretty good! I try to get the detail in there, yet not being too gabby...I think it worked out pretty well. Thanks for watching!!
First off, you're complaining about a video that is 3 and a half years old. Second...I start discussing the important features and impressions at just over a minute...so what are you getting at exactly?
check goruck.com they have molle mesh water bottle holders that are top notch quality i have them on my grey ghost lightweight assault pack. they will definitely solve your water bottle problem
haha! Fair enough! Yeah, I'm from the Boston area...been here my whole life. Sometimes the accent comes out strong...but I'm mild compared to some people around here.
outer limitless I can agree that is comes out full throttle. You sound like someone from my area and then the Boston accent comes out. I find it fun to listen to. But it was a great video!
One of the better EDC vids I've come across. Thorough and well thought out. I really like what you have goin' on. You seem like a squared away individual. Thanks for the breakdown. All the best.

Yep! Done!
MK2 variant fixed the side canteen pockets. I have the multicam MK2 version and there's no more zipper to expand the pouches, now its compressed with elastic bands. Stretch out to fit canteen, take canteen out and the pouch retracts to be flush.

Run some shock cord through that pull tab on the top of the side pocket and just loop it around the lid.

Has held up perfectly but I only use it for basic day carry... not high weight or long range. I bet it would be fine though
I am concerned with how much it can carry, dirty clothes, laptop etc. Do you think is ok to use for a couple days travelling pack?
25 liters.
Do you suggest this backpack for airport travelling? Thanks
I would say absolutely yes... Fantastic for that purpose

Thanks for a great review of this bag. Inspired by you, I made my first ever review video about it. Using it as a Urban Survival Bag over here in Central Europe.
All the best,

Glad you wrote!
outer limitless
Yeah, I would be interested in seeing a video of that insert. I am actually watching your backpacking gear loadout vid. Cool stuff.
Hay to fix your water bottle problem take some shock cord run it through one of the mollie slits on the bottom of your bottle pouch tie it off, and pull it over the top of your bottle lid and it will hold it just fine.
i like to see a breakdown of what you pulled out of that main compartment, the strap with the 511 stuff on it i tihnk
Hi. I'm seeing the solution for your canteen issue as I'm watching this video..... You actually have your fingers on it several times😉
Bungee cord through the "lip" of the pouch and then over your canteen.....
So I was thinking of getting the pack in this video for edc pack do you think this would a good pack??
Very good pack...you'll love it. Obviously it depends on how you want to organize your gear, but from a pack perspective, it's still one of my favorites.
Alright thank you for your input it was alot help
Tape some gaffers or duct tape around the bottle. Maybe itll give it some grip. The newer packs dont use zippered pockets but use a spandex material. I wish i had that version and maybe it was fixed with that upgrade.
Yes, the MKII was released after this video was produced...I cover the MKII as well in a later video. Thanks for watching!
That should have said paracord. My spellcheck has a mind of its own lol
i have this pack and there small messanger bag. has a clip on the small brake. they sent me a new bag. and the nalgene. i have the 32oz i put the nesting cup in the pocket and mine stays in good.
What other bags/pouches do you have attached to the insert? I like that setup!
Thanks.
Soooo many awesome little techi/tacti accessories available these days!
Absolutely...it's pretty hard to choose the best stuff...because it's all great!
what color is that?
That's a shame it frayed on you. I have heard that a couple times now. What part frayed??
@@outerlimitless both inner pockets(the one that closes with velcro and the other that has bungee cord) in the medium sized compartment and the sleeve for the water bladder started tearing since i got it. I still use it and love it though.
The bungee cord pocket was my fault though. I slipped my paracord spool tool in it and the cutter cut the pocket open.
Some nice kit!
Where did you find this bag in that color? Everywhere I look it's only available in some form of camo.
I'd be interested, please let me know if you choose to sell. Thanks!

k, email me at outerlimitless@gmail.com and let's see if we can swing a deal.
woo Jin are duraflex clips. to test it take the prongs on the clips and bend both of them backward & the prongs should not break it not about how it rattles when it is connected. woo Jin is a brand that I have seen since 1998.
Have you tried fit the canteen upsidedown?
I just hate the idea that you need to do crazy stuff to get your canteen to work...the MKII corrected that problem and works well.
fair enough
Awesome review brother! Really enjoyed it! New Sub
thanks! glad you liked it...thanks for watching, I appreciate your support!
Nice review! What's the name of the Maxpedition organizer at 12:46?
I tried to find it on maxpedition's website. I didn't see it. I forget what that one's called or where I even got it. I feel like it might be an older discontinued model. I'll let you know if I figure it out. thanks for watching!
Thank you for your help, I also searched for this item on the Maxpe website and failed :(
+Brice Branchard
I found it!
I hope someday they put out a version 2.0 and fix some of the issues.
wow. very , very well organized! good stuff. what does just the bag run?
I forget exactly what I paid. I wanna say it's around the $120-$130 mark depending on the color you choose. It's reasonable for something you use every single day!
What is the length on the paracord strap not including the rings on each end?
i'll try to measure...i don't currently use that strap, but I'll find it and measure if i can...
outer limitless thanks
I measured 5 1/4" not including the rings...that's the total length of the paracord strap.
outer limitless perfect. Thank you very much
Hey. Is this the urban grey colour bag, or perhaps the adaptive green? I'm trying to decide between those 2 colours. Thanks.
It's technically a discontinued color "Foliage" which is what is now considered Urban Grey from what I believe. It's truly like a foliage green/grey. Adaptive is between green and tan.
What color option is this? Ranger green?
yes, this is the ranger green. very similar to "foliage green" that other companies put out
I'm kinda on the fence between a MK2 or a Rush 24. Any suggestions?
Well, here's my thoughts...they're definitely two distinctly different bags. I might change my answer depending on what your use is going to be...what do you think it will be primarily used for?
Too late now but I have both, Rush 24 every day of the week. More comfortable, much stronger, 10L bigger, much better workmanship.
Do you think a 15.6" laptop will fit in that back sleeve?
honestly not sure, I'd have to measure. my guess is yes. check their website, it might tell you.
The straps are really good on the Enlarged version. I also suspect they may take a few shortcuts on the standard color (Not multicam). Great review!
Does is have holes for the hydration bladder outline? Thanks
Yes it does...it's placed between the paracord handle right in the middle. There is also a hole between the very back compartment and the inside main compartment so the bladder can be placed in either location. It's pretty well done actually. I hope that helps!
yes sir. thanks..
Should I get outside MOLLE pouches like you have on the bag?
That's depending on your gear choice...whatever works for you.
@@outerlimitless cool thx
+menemme
I'd strongly suggest looking at the 5.11 ignitor. I haven't posted a review yet, but I'm really digging that bag. it's super comfy and great ventilation. it's a seldom reviewed bag, but I like it a lot
+menemme
it's lighter weight fabric and has modular ability. slimmer profile and nice waste belt
Looks like what i was looking for. Outstanding intuition. Much obliged. Looking forward to that review of the ignitor
Is this pack small enough to be a personal item on a plane?
Definitely yes. I've used mine and it fits under the seat in front of you.
I switched to a normally shaped cylinder canteen and all those pains I had in the past are gone.
ya, it's not a great design. I'm not even sure why I picked that one, but it's what I'm stuck with for now. someday I'll appreciate a normal canteen!
IF (!!) it fits, and if the sealing of the lid is good enough, how about inverting the canteen upside down, so that the 'cone shape' has the larger part on the bottom of the pocket? ;-)
Just a thought until You don't use a different canteen...
but I like giant button plugs!
do they sell molle compatible tactical giant butt plug carry systems? multicam of course...
do they sell molle compatible tactical giant butt plug carry systems? multicam of course...
How much bigger is this versus the Maxpedition Pygmy II?
They are two different bags in overall function. I don't own the Pygmy II...that was my friend reviewing his bag...but I would say they are overall in a similar bag size class.
i have the mk 2 and the buckles dont rattle on mine
Hmmm...my MKII definitely rattle...but who knows...depending on how tight they are fastened.
@@outerlimitless that's true
Your canteen tapers towards the bottom. It needs a pouch or elastic chord to retain it. Anything with a wide mouth and tapered base is unstable.
Do the b?uckles still make noise when they are tightened down?
Yes, but it's not all the time the buckles are tightened all the way. I'm sorta used to it at this point. I found some other bags do the same thing...not perfect, but manageable.
NICE!
Great video. I've been looking at this backpack for a while now and trying to decide between this one and the 5.11 Rush 12. What color is this bag?. I can't tell if it's the olive or adaptive green. Thanks.
Brian Robinson
this is the first version of the bag...the new version is almost identical...I also have a comparison video you should watch with a side by side of the two versions.
I'm not seeing a Ranger green though.
if you want to email me at outerlimitless@gmail.com I'd consider selling my version 1
Brian Robinson
they don't make ranger green any more...it's a discontinued color, although I think it's their best...not sure why they don't make it anymore
outer limitless I was looking at the mkii.
+Rick Tunnissen Yeah those were my only complaints otherwise great products.
Have tou tried putting your canteen in upside down?
That could be done, but they already released the MKII to address that issue based upon the findings of this video. The MKII is about perfect!
@@outerlimitless Thsts awesome to hear glad they listen to their customer's feedback.
@@mysticforge369 they do... they are very good actually. Helikon Tex is the parent company, also very good!
is this the color shadow grey
The one in this video is Ranger Green. This color is no longer available, but if you want to see shadow grey, I also have a video comparing this original version against the MKII. The ranger green is very similar to a foliage color...has hints of grey, but is still on the green side. The shadow grey has a bluish tint.
I've never seen the Adaptive Green from DA in person.
outer limitless ok i dont now which color i should take...
Which color did you pick? if any? I am curious myself.
Does this fit a 3L hydration bladder?
Yes it does! I just checked that for you with my 3L Platypus and the Dragon Egg MKII. It will compete for internal space a little bit though.
@@outerlimitless Did they send you a MK II for review?
Where can I buy a bag you want bro
Hello, I find the video really interesting I have tried to translate the english is not quite successful for this reason the question to you:
Can you please list times which you pull at 17:50 from the backpack I would like to buy me synonymous.
Hello and many thanks for your fast and helpful answer I have also found everything.
Happy Thanksgiving
I think it is the 5.11 COVRT Small Insert which is 15.25" x 10". The large measures out at 19" x 12.25".
Maybe they'll make a version 2.0!?!?! Still a great bag, but definitely has some flaws!
Whats it weigh empty?
3.5 pounds
What kind of mag pouches are those
I'll take a look and get back to you...I forget exactly what brand...but I'll get back as soon as I can.
I have them and looked at them to get the name, but no tags or identification...sorry wish I could help! They fit great though...if you want measurements I can give you the dimensions.
No worries I appreciate your response.

Welcome aboard dude...glad to have ya!!
What color is your bag
That bag is the original version MKI which was offered in Ranger Green. I love that color...which is now I believe considered Urban Grey on some of the newer products when available.

For your Canteen:
Idea #1
Will a New NALGENE BOTTLE CAP FIT YOUR CANTEEN:
it has Paracord loops on the cap to connect the bottle to your bag. You will need to buy a NITE -IZE #3 S-BINER.
Later if the se loops wear out they can be easily made using BUNGIE Shock Cord from PARACORD PLANET.
Idea #2
Try adding Industrial Strength VELCRO to the INSIDE OF THE BOTTLE CARRIER AND ON THE BOTTOM OUTSIDE WALLS
of you STAINLESS STEEL bottle.
You should look into the O'KEEFS lipbalm (Chapstick ) it's good stuff I would say the best stuff I ever tried.
Interesting...never thought about it, but I will take a look...thanks for the advice!
great review. gave me lots of info sir
Thanks! Glad it helped! If you're interested I also did a follow up with the MKII version. I still use mine all the time!
It is polish Cameleon
try putting in your canteen upside down...???
HAHA...that is the simplest idea that I never thought of. I will try that...good idea!
Buckle test. The first one was under tension which explains absence of rattle. The second was was loose which explains rattle present. Test fail.
I put electrical tape around my buckles stoped em rattling
Got this bag a week ago. Totally agree with what you've said. They changed zipper knot and compared to older ones, they look kinda cheap.
WHAT IS THE MEANING EDC ? BUT COOL BAG WHAT TO BUY ONE FOR MY PSYCHO SON ? HE IS DOOMSDAY PREPARE 🇺🇸💂👮🔫🌴
Are you looking for a gift??
could u tell me how much ur pack is
I'm thinking it's about $130USD. I'd have to check their website, but it's right around that price...thanks.
Woo Jin is a famous Chinese actor specializing in military movies!
Don't let UA-cam do that stabilization shit, makes stuff wonky and warped.
Your canteen is an odd shape, its thinner at the bottom than the top. Looks like it was designed for car cup holders.
I know, I learned about that stabilize thing the hard way. ..can that be un-done? Rookie mistake!
+outer limitless you'd have to re-upload the video unfortunately

Hey, thanks for the head's up on the Stabilize issue...not sure how long I would have gone without figuring that out. Luckily there was a setting in the creator studio that allowed me to revert back to the original...so it's better now. I appreciate your telling me!
+outer limitless Nice I didn't know you could just revert it! Cheers
Is that a 'Tactical Turd' on your Patch?
YESSIR, that is a tactical turd...in cross hairs. It actually fit quite well with a former line of work I was involved with...

All the best.
1 is none and 2 is one.
Yes that's it backwards but yes,, more importantly than repeating something parrot style a true understanding of 'why' is the key.
Know why you do everything and never do so just because others do so,
Only do what you fully understand.
It's totally dumb that a Nalgene won't stay in there without securing it to the top. That is what I hated about my Dragon Egg.
that's it's biggest weakness for sure

Is it water resistant ??
For my needs, yes, it has been perfectly fine. Not sure about a downpour...
lol. the flaw is the shape of your canteen
that's definitely true, i agree. but the pockets aren't deep. I found if I cross the straps, I get better use of larger canteens
