This tower of Ashes is certainly in his top 3 best works, not counting ASOIAF Meathouse Man and Tuf Voyaging are fan fucking tastic and i would highly recommend the short stories he speaks of in this video
Poor George he looks so tired of the questions ... like that girl Litterally just asked him what are his worst favored questions and he says : "old same questions about my favourite character" and that next guy just thought it was clever to ask "What is your favourite *Story* ". Yeet One day I would like to hear him on the state of american litterature, on the question of the author in the book, on psychologisation vs structuralism, all sort of philosophical topics related to his ethical part of ASOIAF. Instead we get that shit on and on....
I have to admire him for how much he's given back in terms of teaching and giving advice to the next generation of writers. Jack Lemmon once said, when you reach the top you should always send the elevator back down, and George has definitely sent the elevator back down.
I don't think it's fair to shit on people for just asking what a writers favorite character is. Like sure that's not crazy deep but it's not exactly idiotic or mean.
I've always wanted to ask specific questions about his world and world building. For example, house Blackwood of Raventree plays a big role throughout the history of Westeros but Raventree doesn't show up on most maps. In the North however a place called Ramsgate is on every map, but who is the noble house of Ramsgate??
Overt sexuality in a lot of those films kind of cheapens it for me. Makes it feel like it was made for 13 yr old boys. The original (written form) of some of those stories is way better (in my opinion). But my opinion has nothing to do with ur commment about love death n robots bringing short stories back. So yeah, carry on. 👍
I feel bad for the guy. All of the sudden overnight he is rich and can just do whatever he wanted too.... which is clearly not going to be finishing the books. I feel bad for him because he's in an impossible situation. He can't just come out and say "I'm done with the books" and even if he did finish them the fan expectation of what they "should be" is basically impossible to reach at this point. That can't be a fun place mentally. I mean he's obviously barely working on the current novel (going on almost a decade now) and forget about the novel after that. He's done with it....but there's no way he can admit that.
@@jdkgcp I don't know if you're aware, but he recently published two books; Fire And Blood parts 1 and 2. I don't think he feels sorry for himsels, so neither should you. For most writers it's a challenge to engage people. When people care, it's a blessing.
New theory, maybe George is just writing both books now and will say publish them say 2 years apart. He cannot take this long to write one book, maybe I’m wrong. But he at least should be able to wrap things up somewhat quickly, he would have to have somewhat of an idea which would quicken up the process of the last book. Cannot deal with another decade waiting after winds of winter.
No. I think that he heavily plots his books, but that’s because he forces himself to write a certain number of words a day. As a result, he also writes VERY quickly.
Sanderson does extensive outlines before writing his book however he gives himself breathing room for stuff like characterisation. I think they is a lecture on UA-cam where he discusses the architect and gardener. Example for him he says Steven King is a gardener he hates outlining however architect usually has a really great ending because how it’s been seeded throughout the book.
