NBA needs to figure out how to dilute their “big market” teams before considering expanding. What’s the point of adding more teams when the media only want to cover the Lakers.
I mean if the NBA does eventually expand they can easily add both the Seattle Sonics and the (hypothetical) Las Vegas Vipers both in the Western Conference and move a team like the Grizzlies or Pelicans to the East to balance out the conferences, complete with a full division re-alignment and a possible new playoff seeding format. I also think 8 players is too much to protect for all 30 teams. I'd say each team can protect either 6 or 7 players, and both Seattle and Las Vegas are only allowed to take one player from each team. So, if Las Vegas takes Moses Moody from the Warriors that means nobody else from Golden State can be selected in the expansion draft.
As an old grizzlies fan and Vancouverite, you’re wrong about the fan support. They failed to secure any corporate sponsorship, they made bad draft choices and players then wouldn’t come here. Things are different now. I just don’t think they will pick a west coast team cause they won’t get tv eyes out East it’s too late out. I hope they come back tho

Seattle didn't want to lose the sonics. The new owner was from OKC. and he told everyone he wasn't going to move them. then turned his back and did move them. It wasn't Seattle's fault. Plus, they were getting the fans, they just couldn't make a new arena agreement. But now they have a new one. It's all but ready to bring the Sonics back
Just like the NHL expansion draft, I think the price for a new franchise would be so high that you need to update the draft rule for a expansion team to be winning day one. I would say keep the 8 players protection, but only 4 of your starters can be protected.
Horrible take with Seattle, a billionaire gets pissed that the public arent going to fund a massive arena for someone elses profit and that's a bad reflection of the public? Seattle had had a pretty bad track record with billionaires and major corporations doing right by the city, seattle subsidized boeing facilities and infrastructure and tbey left right as seattle and wa state increased taxes. So in the years that followed they passed laws such as the one prohibiting public funds for sports infrastructure as the city had better more pressing things to take care of, namely a massive crumbling freeway that ran right through downtown. Also as a ceo, Howard Schultz has said that Starbucks needs to squash unions to survive, a company that makes billions per quarter, and has an astounding level of success, cant afford to drop their margins from 14% → 10% in order to pay their employees. The company barely pays taxes and benefitted massively from growing in Seattle, he should be the one shamed, not the people of Seattle who didn't want to fund the business expenses of a massive corporate enterprise with public funds. Seattle also was blocked from buying out the kings by the league as the league "wanted to protect the basketball legacy". Like tf where was that when Seattle was going through a rough time as a city and had their basketball franchise bought and moved. The sonics still have had a more recent playoff series win than the kings, and were in seattle since the 60s, and won an actual chip. Seattle 100% deserves a team, as for the other cities I'd say that Vancouver is definitely an amazing option, it has the facilities with rogers arena already, a great transit system and infrastructure for the team in place and a massive population as the city has grown from a small town to one of the biggest cities on the west coast. Vegas is the most likely city to get it though, money talks and as much as it is just a stupid fuckin city to begin with it has the money so the nba will follow.
Vancouver should get the team as Adam Silver wants to expand internationally (assuming he considers Canada as international even tho Toronto has a team). Seattle fans can always drive two and a half hours to Portland to watch a game, but there's nowhere close for people in Vancouver to watch a game. It'll be a major success here now as basketball is the most popular sport + the population boom, but I don't think we have an ownership group who can afford an NBA team.
Seattle needs a team and while Las Vegas seems like the best choice going international again to Mexico City could be the start of something great. I think it’ll prolly be Vegas and Seattle but I could see Mexico and Vancouver in the next 10 years
There is a city in the middle of the country name St. Louis, that want a NBA team. The Hawks moved because of a arena situation. St. Louis was getting a hockey team in 1967, but the owner did not want to play in the same arena where a NHL team will be playing in.
Seattle and Vegas would be good spots. Seattle and Vegas would be Western Conference and that means New Orleans and (Memphis or Minnesota) would have to be Eastern Conference
It will be hard for any city within the US to "host" a team, ticket sales have been the lowest in years, not to mention tv/cable viewership too. Maybe outside of the US where having an NBA team is a "novelty" for the locals.
Expansion is 100% necessary. Look at how many potentially great players get no minutes just simply due to a lack of supply for teams. Expansion to Seattle and Las Vegas did wonders for the NHL, and the NBA is gonna want in. Mexico City is a great choice too, but a few too many hurdles right now.

They won’t. New Orleans, Memphis, and Minnesota is more east coast than west. They’d move one of them then get two new west coast teams. Nothing against Tampa but the north west has been starving for local nba teams and they might be going there next.
When or if the order comes in with Seattle & Vancouver then Minnesota would likely go to the east. However, If Vegas Seattle & Vancouver come into the league together (1 via relocation then) then I’d assume New Orleans & Memphis would then go to the east.
So with 2 new teams based strongly in the West geographicly, Which team do you think will be pushed into eastern conference? I'm thinking Memphis, but could see Nola or Minnosota aswell.
No, you don't. But thats fine. Your city has paid its restitution. If a city gives up a franchise thats a minimum 20 years. And 20 years have expired. When 2028-29 arrives that'll be Seattles 20 years.
@BallerDman789 that's a valid emotion. Use it to empower and help with a negotiation where the city and owners will ensure success so a team can be placed again in Seattle.
Who are your 8 protects from the Warriors? The obvious choices as our roster stands right now are Steph/Klay/Dray/Wiggins/Looney. Then you pick 3 of GP2/Moody/Kuminga/CP3/Podz, and I'm pretty sure unless he has an extremely impressive rookie season, Podz and CP3 are the obvious leave outs for the list. I don't really see how there's even a conversation of Looney vs. Kuminga for the last slot because both should be obvious protects.
I would say a Mexico expansion from a money perspective would be more valuable for the NBA, Vegas offers the team and the state money but would not be comparable to tuning in a country. They could legit cut the season with only a home and away game if they incorporated 6-8 expansions to make up for the decline in money for having less games by having more markets, would benefit load management and competitiveness having less divide between seeding teams and teams missing the playoffs. Mid season touranament would also make up for the loss in amount of games and if they counted the mid season tournament in terms of historical records that would not destroy a player's overall career stats. They could even make the tournament structured around the teams mid season who is qualified gets to enter to raise competitiveness and offer the team and players money based off performance in the tournament or they could restructure the lottery giving performing teams a higher chance.
I think the idea of Mexico City in my view sounds like a long shot idea personally. I'd hope Vancouver gets another shot. Market is massively larger than what it was 20 years ago. People have learnt from the mistakes from the first go-around and there is a super successful club known as the Vancouver Bandits in the CEBL. Go check them out. I couldn't care less what people think, I want my damn team! Not only that, but I haven't been to a game since I was thirteen, and I am thirty now. I would love to see a second Canadian team and I’m sure the rest of Canada would too. That being said, I know it’s probably not Vancouver’s time yet. I would assume it’ll just be Seattle and Vegas this time. Hopefully next time we get expansion (maybe around 2030?), we can have Vancouver and Mexico City join. Assuming no current teams move cities, I imagine all 4 would become western conference teams. Memphis would switch to the eastern conference with the first round of expansion and New Orleans with the second.
Only other Canadian team that would work would be Montréal
Thanks for including Vancouver on the list, as a Vancouver resident we are begging the NBA to have a team back in Vancouver. We have two documentaries on crave about the Vancouver Grizzlies one is “Finding Big Country” and “The Grizzly Truth”, both are worth watching for anyone not familiar with the Vancouver Grizzlies. We didn’t lose the team because of attendance, we lost the team because of SHADY OWNERSHIP…6 years is not nearly enough for any sports franchise!
I was just thinking of NBA expansion and this new video popped up. Thanks!
Mexico and Vancouver would be very nice to show what international fans is all about, 2 far side cities will be a match to behold.
Expansion to: Vancouver(west), Seattle(west), Las Vegas(west), and Pittsburgh(east) while moving Minnesota, New Orleans, and Memphis with the new Pittsburgh expansion team to the Eastern Conference…..everyones happy 🙏…the west and east conference are even this way
Let's go Seattle. Thunder vs Sonic would be an instant rivalry.

Be nice to see 4 new teams
An expansion draft for 2 new teams is already crazy. There's literally 0 chance they do 4 new teams at once. Just imagine the following x4...
Each expansion team would select a minimum of 14 players who are under contract or restricted free agents for the upcoming season.
Each expansion team may select no more than one player from each team.
Each expansion team can only select players that are left unprotected by an NBA team.
Each of the 30 NBA teams may protect a maximum of eight players on its roster who are under contract or are restricted free agents at the conclusion of the upcoming season.
Each of the 30 NBA teams will designate the players on its roster who are eligible for selection by expansion teams.
Each of the 30 NBA teams must designate at least one player on its roster to be eligible for selection by each expansion team, even if the team does not have eight players under contract or as restricted free agents for the upcoming season.
Any player under contract selected by Each expansion team will immediately be placed on the their roster.
Any eligible restricted free agent selected by each expansion team shall immediately become an unrestricted free agent.
Unrestricted free agents are not eligible to be protected nor are they eligible to be selected by either expansion team.

@@Shamanteng Ummm again no, each conference needs an equal number of teams. You can't add 1 to 30 and end up with an even number hoss...
If you read my entire post, that is EXACTLY how the NBA's rulebook dictates that expansion drafts work.
That is not possible at once. The league would be drastically affected, fans and teams would be in uproar. 2 team expansion alone would already shake up the league a lot
@@dirtyfrench2926 Sure sure but I still think 2 expansion teams at the same time is more complicated than it seems. It would require 2 cities to be ready at the same time
Say Vegas is ready to have a team in 2 years - the other one would have to rush and be ready too ? Even though they would not necessarily be operational ?
Rules can be changed
Beside you think that adding one would imbalance conferences. Remember that division exists so the imbalance will last as long as there are divisions

Come back to Vancouver! Please! Even though we don’t deserve it, but basketball has grown in Canada!
Mexico City, Las Vegas, Seattle, and Vancouver all could have franchises. You could even say Tampa Bay, Kansas City, San Diego or Montreal.
Las Vegas and Seattle are both Western cities, so if this happened would they move another team into the Eastern conference? Perhaps Memphis? Will Ja be fine in the East?
No way Seattle is getting a team... Vegas will, though. Still it could be two Western cities, and someone like Memphis will move to the East.
@@cnelsonlv99Seattle is equally, if not more, likely to get a team than Las Vegas. Climate Pledge Arena has all the current NBA requirements including the tracking capture system and the locker room requirements. Seattle is also a larger TV market than Las Vegas, which would be the second smallest market in the NBA. You're foolish if you think Seattle won't be one of the two
@@de132 I absolutely guarantee Vegas will get a team. Seattle is NOT a guarantee to get a team. Seattle couldn't keep their previous team, despite the fact that it was dominant for nearly a decade, and now the city of Seattle has become a $hithole that nobody wants to visit. Everybody wants to visit Vegas, and they are building one of the most state of the art arenas in the NBA.
Be very clear about this... Vegas is a sure thing. Seattle isn't close to a sure thing.
@@cnelsonlv99 Seattle couldn't keep their team because of the arena. The arena situation is resolved. Seattle is a larger TV market than Las Vegas, has an NBA ready venue, and more clear potential owners.
You're clearly a fool. You keep talking about tourism, but tourism isn't a major factor for NBA/NHL teams. They play 41 home games a year. This won't be a destination just like it hasn't been for the Kraken or Golden Knights. Local media, fan spending and attendance is what matters.
Seattle just got an expansion NHL franchise for the fact that the arena situation is resolved. Seattle is the frontrunner, not Las Vegas.
The most likely owner for Vegas isn't Bill Foley, and therefore they'll likely have to build another arena for the Vegas NBA franchise since the NBA team won't be a secondary tenant. Use your brain, think about the money.
To me, the NBA will expand to Seattle and Las Vegas, and it would be after the next TV media deal. They won't expand by 1 team, the NBA had a lot of issues the last time there was an odd number of teams.

NBA needs to figure out how to dilute their “big market” teams before considering expanding. What’s the point of adding more teams when the media only want to cover the Lakers.
So true
They just did with the new CBA
Your videos always make my day! Thanks bro!😊
Las Vegas Jacks is a better name for a Vegas Nba team

Seattle didn't want to lose the sonics. The new owner was from OKC. and he told everyone he wasn't going to move them. then turned his back and did move them. It wasn't Seattle's fault. Plus, they were getting the fans, they just couldn't make a new arena agreement. But now they have a new one. It's all but ready to bring the Sonics back
Montreal or Vancouver? I’m just saying these past few years basketball has been the biggest it’s ever been in Canada
Just like the NHL expansion draft, I think the price for a new franchise would be so high that you need to update the draft rule for a expansion team to be winning day one. I would say keep the 8 players protection, but only 4 of your starters can be protected.
No possible way Harrison Barnes would be unprotected by the Kings. He is the black falcon here in Sac, we would easily protect him with our 8 slots.
They should go with the name Las Vegas Vipers or Las Vegas Spades those two options are 🔥
Even though this probably won't be the name, a name I came up with for a Vegas team is the Sin City Highrollers.

Seattle fans can always drive two and a half hours to Portland to watch a game, but there's nowhere close for people in Vancouver to watch a game. It'll be a major success here now as basketball is the most popular sport + the population boom, but I don't think we have an ownership group who can afford an NBA team.

It will be hard for any city within the US to "host" a team, ticket sales have been the lowest in years, not to mention tv/cable viewership too. Maybe outside of the US where having an NBA team is a "novelty" for the locals.
An expansion will not be good for the league at this point, the new expansion teams won’t be competitive for a long time.
