Not only did I enjoy your video because I like watching older kits revitalized and given new life, but I also loved seeing your generosity and loyalty towards your alma mater. I hope all of the work and time you put into that kit is appreciated by all of those up and coming drummers that are fortunate to have such a nice kit to learn on. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Just did this with an old Pearl Export except I used evaporust instead of WD. Got some pretty nice results! Did the magic eraser with soapy water on the shells as well. The drum key drill bit is a cool idea for the tension rods. I had to use a wire wheel for the floor tom and bass drum hoops. Later I shortened the power toms to trad depths and gave them super sharp modern 45 degree bearing edges. With aquarian Response 2 over classic clears they are worlds better now!
This was awesome as always, and kind of touching. It's so cool that they reached out to to recondition your old high school drum kit. Probably brought back alot of memories. An absolute labor of love!
I've restored two 1959 ludwig transition badge kits. both were 13,16,22. They were for sure a labor of love and the mojo that they both had was incredible. Once again, Great job brother
I don't think it's a remedy I've used, but I'm using similar solvents to do the same work. My biggest gripe with using vinegar would probably be dealing with the scent.
@@malonedrum 😂😂, yeah the smell is pretty nasty. I've used it because we have it on hand as a fabric softener which leaves your clothes nice and soft and it doesn't leave the smell behind and it's way cheaper than fabric softener.
Hi great video. How did you get a copy of the blueprint for the mount? I want to confirm if the drill holes are the same on the square mount vs the gas cap mount.
I just did a video about the PTS drums, was totally unfamiliar until recently. My first kit was a CB Drums, so I feel your pain. This school is lucky to be well-equipped and value percussion instruments.
Yes, I personally love it, but I wouldn’t force it upon anybody who prefers a virgin kick. Also, with it being a school and getting moved around a lot it just makes it more efficient.
Impressive work….and like you said you would get opposing views about added a Tom bracket to such a small shell….a free stand imho is more stable….not as visually appealing. In the end no harm done either way…that Gretsch will perform perfect.
@malonedrum Great work! not only to I like the look of the mount being attached to the bass drum as I did the same thing with an 18" Gretsch New Classic. I don't agree with the above assessment from vincent that a free stand is more stable...how on earth could it be more stable than actually having it attached to bass drum, itself? Oh well, each to their own on that one, I guess.

Nice chance to tackle another project, but also not for my own good. Happy to help out the old stomping grounds.
I have reconditioned a 70s Gretsch kit to a natural maple finish. It was great fun and I loved the end result.
Nice, would love to see it!

Sounds like some seriously nice work you did!

Yes! I was excited to do it, as it was a very sentimental piece of equipment for me.

Appreciate it!
Thanks for your work and generosity. The drums look and sound great! Thank you!!!
Happy to help out the old stomping grounds!
Cool Video, great cause!
Thank Tobias!
Thanks 🙏🏻!!!
👌🏼
Awesome work dude!
Thanks a ton!
Killer as always! What a beautiful kit!
Appreciate the support!
@@malonedrum Yeah man, did I tell you I got a second gunmetal kit?
@@artcorvolet No, but that's awesome. I'd love to take some hardware and have it powder coated one day.
Great video 🤘🏼
Thanks for the visit
Heck yea! Good guy Mike!
Thanks!
Have you tried vinegar for taking out rust? It work's pretty good

I got it off a Gretsch Users Facebook Group
Jr high jazz band had a trash remo pts kit. High school was a jacked cb 700. These kids are lucky.

@@malonedrum I'll def check out the pts vid. Good idea, horrible execution. Appreciate your effort and content. Cheers.
Nice work!
Thanks!
I got the same model . 2007? I imported it . I live in South Africa. My 12 tom got stolen not so long ago. Was gutted. Hard to find those drums here
I think this one was purchased in 2007 or close to that year.
@@malonedrum if u find a 12 for a good deal lemme know man! Dig the channel by the way. Nice one
@@jonnosweetman You could order one from Gretsch, they are custom drums in the USA line.
@@malonedrum hey! I did try this option. Was crazy expensive 😳
@@jonnosweetman That's custom drums for ya!
Tom mount …. Well… this makes complete sense. High school kids and multiple gigs

Yeah, I much prefer the visual appeal of it being attached to a bass drum. Less stands, the better.
