Say hello to Jennifer! She's joining us this week to review the 2023 Mazda CX-50 Meridian Edition. Mazda created this vehicle with the North American market in mind, vast landscapes of differing geography, with ruggedness and power in mind when creating it. Does it live up to that expectation? While we're not outdoorsy type people, we can appreciate a good SUV regardless.
We go over some of the key features of the CX-50 and how it differs from the CX-5, where this vehicle fits in Mazda's portfolio, and the enhancements you get with the Meridian Edition. We jump inside to go over the features and tech found on this vehicle and how its similar to the other Mazda vehicles we've driven previously.
We then each take the 2023 Mazda CX-50 Meridian Edition on the road to see how this crossover handles, drives, and rides, and if the wagon-like proportions make for a good vehicle overall.

I have the 2023 CX-50 GTTurbo (Turbo Premium Plus 🇺🇸) and it works perfectly well for my daily city/highway driving in Vancouver and on roads/places less travelled where I can meet up like-minded folks for scuba diving. It worked well gliding through more than 10-inch of snow with just the all-season tires and weathered perfectly the combined snow-rain downpour many times along the road. This is my third Mazda vehicle coming from a former owner of Toyota, Isuzu, Subaru and Mitsubishi vehicles. Thanks for your great video.
Thanks for sharing! It's nice to see Mazda creating vehicles for niche markets, I haven't seen many of these on the road but they seem to suit their target market well. Enjoy yours!
Yes, I like seeing you BOTH in your videos. Jenn's accent gives the video a more distinctively regional flavour and flourish; this is something I enjoy very much. Aloha to you both!
Glad you liked it, so far it looks like we're getting a lot of positive comments about having both of us on screen so I think we'll continue making it happen!
@@PRNTestDrive Wonderful!👍
I liked having u both on the test drive for sure.
Thanks! So far we're getting lots of positive comments so I think we'll continue.
Nice review mate nice car glad to see you both doing this I'd like to see more of that definitely
We'll definitely make it happen! Sounds like everyone's been very positive about it.
Good video. We bought my wife the Forester Wilderness and we love it. However, I'm considering buying the Meridian CX-50. I like that it doesn't have a CVT. I think that would allow me to do more light towing, reliably. I enjoyed you both in the video. You come across as a serious auto-journalist and she doesn't give a crap; she's a blunt, straight shooter. Loved the dynamic. Cheers.
Glad you think so! Thanks for sharing your thoughts also. We're looking to get into the 2024 Outback Wilderness in a little while so we'll see how that compares.
Petro Canada in Quebec has 94 octane available thought it was the same all over Canada?
They do, and that’s the ‘one’ I mention. They aren’t everywhere and it isn’t everyone’s gas station. I personally go to Pioneer/Ultramar which only has 91 which has been all I need for the Mercs.
Nice style although I hate plastic wheel trim. It’s a haven for moisture and corrosion. Interior is good. Buttons and physical gauges are the way to go. I don’t get the point of carrying the CX-50 and CX-5. Trailing arm rear suspension, price, and mediocre fuel economy will keep me out of this vehicle. I think a CRV is a smarter choice especially for resale.
I believe the CX-5 will be replaced by the CX-70, at least according to the rumours. This will be an option for people looking for a slightly different SUV experience, and the CX-70 will be a mainstream option to replace the ageing CX-5.
