Just curious why does your office call them relays?…doesn’t that term come from when you have relay boxes on your route? If it’s park and loop we call them swings.

Same here , everyone looks at me with this "look" I'm like f*** off I'm learning , (to myself lol) i don't let them see me sweat
Thanks for open mind for new CCA.
I was slow my first day by myself. After the 3rd day on that route I could get it done as fast as anyone else. It does get easier the more you do it.
Thank you for your video!Your video has helped me a lot.Yesterday was the first day I was sent out myself.Harder than I expected,4 hours of work took 6.5 hours to finish. I felt very depressed when I got to the last two streets. My supervisor was very nice,he said nothing about that and just comforted me not to worry. The regular carries and CCAs in our office are also very nice and gave me some good advices. There are more than 10 CCAs earlier than me in our office, hopefully I can stick to the day I become a regular:).
I had a rough first month. It'll get easier
I did a 3 hours of work in 8, I've also never done the route completely, just the first 30 minutes the rest was like I was on Mars. I know what you mean.
Exactly but after you do it once it gets easier.
What are some of the reasons they can let you go at 90
Days?
They let you know if you're slow. I think a couple cca's just quit
Turnover rate is sky high. I was told I was slow before when I started but I used it as motivation. Now my postmaster calls me her superstar. I think they should definitely train CCA's differently in their first month or 2 instead of the sink or swim mentality.
Key word is train lol.
Management is not qualified to determine if you are "slow" or not. Remember that.
New subscriber, could you explain how you do 3 bundles and how to hold umbrella, this is my biggest struggle and my 3rd week watching your videos as much as possible, today I did 6 hours (not casing yet) and took 10 hours with help in the end, I flat ran and sorted breaks, doing my best and always will
Hang in there. I'm a RCA in SC. I've been on the job for 2 weeks now. I'm 56. About 30 years ago I was a CCA but didn't last a year & quit. Giving it another try. I don't have as much walking as a CCA but I'm older now. Good luck!
I had my 30 day review, and my supervisor said my speed was graded as unacceptable for now,( which made me want to quit right on the spot) lol, but I think my biggest issues are missing packages and backtracking. 😭 Also finding cluster boxes is a mf. I'll be so mad if I get fired for being "slow" after busting my entire ass out on the street, if anyone has any tricks for speed plz feel free to share
Talk to your union steward. Make sure to use the load truck feature on your scanner. Try to fit as many packages as you can in your bag.
@@MailmanNick thank you lol I actually don't know who the union steward is at my station, but also, my routes are not walking. They are either curbside, cluster, or business routes in the truck. I'm in Texas so I guess it's different, I don't even have a mail bag 😭
@@yurayura9000 all mounted some say is cupcake, but for me walking is where it's at. Mounted usually gets a lot of packages it's annoying.
Load truck and mark sequence and not by section. Always check dps and flats. Try to match it. Fingering dps check the the one behind the next stop because it could be missort.
@yurayura9000 Set up your deliveries in trays and and tubs and check them in order for each address. Deliver one address at a time. as you become familiar with the addresses and routes you'll be smooth and slow or feel at ease then the speed will come without trying. Before you leave check your car that you delivered everything. Have faith, perseverance & patience to keep moving forward.
I’m sorry being a cca. Your never on the same route to learn, casing is hard because in the slots I see the street then I can’t locat the other side of street even odd numbers, I follow the board but what can you say to help
The more experience the better. Once you do the routes you'll start to remember addresses
I feel your pain I'm 40 days in cca life is a ruff one man.
It is but I love this shit and good money.
@@MailmanNick yea it's decent I'm only getting 18.01 a hour so far and about 45 hours a week on average
@@angryhomie5972 50 cent raise after your probation though. Only goes up from here. 45 I can do that standing on my head that's nice!
@@MailmanNick 45 hours is decent kinda wish I got more hours I need too slow down and take my time I was told by a few rcas here. They say cca make there money by taking there time. I go too fast at times cause I don't wanna be slow. It cost me hours you know what I mean.
@@angryhomie5972 oh you're a rca. That makes sense. Yeah taking time and not getting injured I've learned is the best tactic after passing your 90 days.
Also wanted to add, it kind of reminds me of my old Frito Lay jobs as a merchandiser. I was slow at first, but after awhile you get used to it and pick up the pace. Although some days were harder than others because of promotions and all that, but after doing it for awhile you definitely get used to it, it's all just muscle memory.
Just curious why does your office call them relays?…doesn’t that term come from when you have relay boxes on your route? If it’s park and loop we call them swings.
I'm not sure. They just say anything walking is a relay. I thought it was because of like running or something lol. Nobody at my office says swings or pivots.
@@MailmanNick relay like an Olympic track race sounds appropriate lol…yeah I’ve only heard that term when I was sent to an office downtown where they walked to relay boxes to get the mail. I hear the regulars mention a pivot when they have part of another route or double case when they are under time on their route. Also I hear you say gurney a lot, we call them pumpkins. So much slang in the USPS lol
@@EvolvinEvo lol yeah just depends on what everyone is saying around you.
What time do you usually get off ?
7-715pm normally.
I had my third day alone today and it almost makes me feel down, i have had a new route each day, i cant tell if im improving or not
The first few weeks are gonna be rough. Don't let it make you feel down
Last day of on the job training is tomorrow...really nervous about this
You're gonna fail but you'll learn and get better. We've all been there. My first week I cased and carried a full route. Brought back packages. Don't get discouraged.
I was really nervous also. I got NO on the job training. I was thrown on an aux route my first day by myself. It took me 7 hours to do a 4 hour route and then I went to help the other carrier. The office I’m in only has 1 full route and 1 aux route. After 3 days I was able to do the aux route in 4 1/2 hours. I did the full route the other day and it took me 9 1/2 hours. Don’t worry it gets easier with time.
hi nick i quit from usps i dont liked walking all day i got hired with UPS is great job and they pay more than post offic idk
A lot of driving. You got to do what's best for you. I like the walking. If anything were to happen with the post office I would go to UPS.
How many routes do you do a day? I've seen other cca videos of cca's working 3-4 routes a day.
I do 1 full route, then half of another full route.
Sometimes I get an 1 aux after that if I finish early or go help someone.
@@MailmanNick what’s an aux? You always refer to that but I am not sure what it is lol. I just completed my processing for a CCA position in ATL and I have orientation coming up some time later this month.
@@MailmanNick ahh ok, I guess it depends how your office is and how much help is needed. I've heard different stories. Hopefully I get pakced in a somewhat decent office.
@@kupaejoe4511 aux routes aren't "full routes". We have an aux route that no carrier is assigned to because it's not a full route. At my office too we refer to our overtime as our aux. I do my route, then I get assigned "aux" from part of another route. The carrier is either off or sick or whatever.
my route is not that big, but almost every house has 2-3 big dogs. That makes me slow, they are barking from the netting door, sometimes they are out. Totally scary!!
And my supervisor expecting that route I need to finish in 2 hours, but I always take 3hours. Don't know what I can do!
It's rough. If you feel threatened don't even deliver mail. Animal interference.
I’m back at the post office . First time got let go becuase job performance and the supervisor didn’t like me but now I’m at new office and I’m doing good and improved on past mistakes . I’m day 10 .. once I get 90 days how will it feel like ? Also what’s the most one can make in a month cirrrnt hourly is 18 an hour and been working kany hours
Every Office is different glad you are in a better situation.
After 90 days you will be great!
In what ways ? Like job security etc .. also when do they have people case
@@radi2986 it'll be hard to get fired after 90. Casing depends on your office. I've heard people don't case for a while. I had to case a full route my first week. Depends.
Thank you I’m sorry if I’m bombarding you with questions .. how much weight can one expect to lose since many walking
Also currently this week I got 6 hours of overtime .. do they take a lot of tax from overtime
I ain't going to lie I was slow last week at a new station I was sent to but it was 96°and every house got 30 steps lol
Sounds like my day every day 😂 it sucks
Man my sup tries to do this all the time with 71 parcels and 32 dps. No way that’s 4 hours lol 😂 foh
You ever have to throat punch someone on your route Nick?
Lol no I try not to act on emotion
Hey nick how long did it take for the post office to get back with you after taking the exam
1 month
Wow... They're processing me very quickly. 🤔
How do you stay hydrated ?
I bring a lot of water. Sometimes customers offer me water. I always take the offer. Don't want them to stop asking.
I also have a specific water jug that keeps liquid cold for a long period of time.
I bring, 2 for the 90 degree humid days ,1 with a rag. After every relay I will soak the rag and wet the head helps a bunch
Hey Nick how do cca learn the routes
By doing them. Sink or swim basically.
Ask for a map and after 3-4 times of doing the route you should be familiar on what side of town your on. For example 1000 ,1100 ,1200 block. Follow your dps!
Do you get your orientation letter through email?
I got mine thru email.
6?? God I hope I finish 6
Whats the purpose of doing it fast? There will be more mail the next day. Now with Amazon in the mix. Your going to take longer.
They don't wanna pay OT
Hey Nick. Im watching all your videos getting ready waiting on usps for drug test and orientation date etc etc.. How long does it look like at your office to make regular? Is it gonna take that full 2 yrs or alot sooner? I really hope when i get assigned i get your office. Gonna make some$$$$$
I'm 7th in line to make regular. I need 7 people to go to be regular. I'm pretty sure 2 are retiring at the end of the year. I'm hoping more retire.
I’m getting done at like 6 with a pivot
Are your pivots half routes like our office? Lol
Cant really compare a new employee with a regular lol
I just said that so people understand even regulars go slow sometimes. I've seen it.
@@MailmanNick I'm a reg and I wouldn't call it going "slow": it's just that we want to work safely and protect our bodies for retirement. If you go faster than your natural pace you will hurt yourself or get into an accident eventually. I move at exactly the same speed when I'm working as when I'm not working and some people consider that slow. My pace is my pace. I don't care if a CCA could finish my route by 11 am when it takes me until 5 pm. I go at MY pace and that's all we have to do.
I hope others can respond since this was posted 10 months ago
I had my 30 day review. Supervisor was confused with hire date. I explained just b4 academy I got covid. So my 30 day is actually 10 day
Still got unsatisfactory
He explained I’m not performing like a permanent
He stressed to not worry about this rating
How can you not?
Regulars tell me I’m doing great and to ignore it
Oh well. Guess we will see what 60 days look like
I quit last week
Sorry to hear that
Too fucking slow! My packages take a month to arrive and they are not even international.
Can you comment about bringing mail back? What are the various scenarios? What are the consequences?
It happens. I've done it. I've never got in trouble for it. They aren't happy but it is what it is.
What are some of the reasons they can let you go at 90
Days?
Any. Too slow, call offs, bad behavior, ect
