The first video I watched that was yours was the bookshelf with a built in door one. It was great so I subscribed and watched more. I can say that you've motivated and inspired me a lot and I'm going to make the easel soon. I love your creativity and your hardworking personality

Clamping that level to give a straight edge for the circular saw is a great idea. I realized what bob was doing and my jaw dropped a little. I can't wait until the next time I get to cut something!

It looks so easy on the video. The bed frame and drawers are very attractive. The instructions are not complicated ,easy to follow.I'm going to give it my best shot.

My wife has been begging me for a king size bed and the only thing holding me back is the cost of a bed and a mattress. I'm a beginner woodworker so I never thought to make one. You made it so simple for me and it looks incredible. Not to mention how much I'll save getting a mattress through Casper. Thanks Bob!

One of the better looking beds I've seen. I made a headboard from a door from the 1930's era a few years ago. I just have it attached to a regular metal frame right now, but I wonder how it would look with something like this on it. Hmmm...you're giving me ideas.

Awesome!! My bed frame is my old water bed frame. We've had it since about 1986. After messing up my back in a car accident, we had to lose the water mattress. We went to Johnathan Stevens and got a very comfortable mattress. Now we want to make a new frame with drawers. Yours in this video is along the same lines as I was thinking only yours looks much easier to build. When spring comes, we will have to give it a try. If it works out, I will let you know. Thanks!!

Bob I remembered you said during the brain pick with steve that you always had an issue with burning on your table saw. I think I might know why you're having that issue. It looks like you're using too high of tooth count blade on your table saw. I had the same issue with my Ryobi BT3000 because I was using a 80 tooth blade. I then switched to a 50 tooth Marples combination blade and I get the same smooth cuts and almost no burning. Plus boards ripped so much easier. Hope this helps!

    • @Iliketomakestuff
      @Iliketomakestuff  9 років тому +8

Awesome, good call! I actually got a new saw recently so that should be less of an issue now. Still, that's a great tip so thank you!

Bob, this is a good project. With so much plywood, the cost of this project goes up. It's definitely stronger and more durable, but the cost is a little prohibitive...when I make my frame, I'll probably use OSB, especially on the hidden parts. Good to watch you build this...it helps when you lay out the in-betweens, like how you ensure the dividers were in the right spot and how you went about it.

Man, you're a good teacher. From the verbal explanations to the visual ones--editing included--this video is great. You touch on simple yet crucial stuff, like straight edges to guide a cut or "remembering the 1/2" width," all in the flow of your build. Thanks for these videos.
Oh, and dat barn wood tho. Awesome execution keeping the grain (and checking) fluid throughout.

I got an idea to make something uniqe that i haven`t seen before, its a pouf with cooling storage... so you could store your beer close to your sofa, (sounds lazy i know). what do you think of that, would it be too big of a project or not "safe" enough because of cooling elements inside a pouf?
Again thanks for directing me to that Headboard video

Wow, I like how you made the bed. My parents made a headboard for their king sized bed. They used a standard door that had tiny cracks and was sitting in the basement. Since the door occupied space in the basement, they decided to construct it as a headboard for the bed. It turned out great! I really liked this video and will recommend it to my dad who would have an idea if he were ever to construct something like this.

I think a nice ad on would be to put another drawer into the small space between the two outside drawer sets, and I mean that by just making another box and size it to fit between them, and add the sliders and then you have more storage, and you design also makes it adjustable so it serves many different size beds. Loved the build. Can't wait to see more videos.

That's great stuff! Thank you for posting. One thing that you might consider is to either route or use a jigsaw to cut slots in the solid part of the ply (the drawer box tops), so that the mattress can breathe freely. Depending on your environment, you might get mould otherwise. Best wishes, Evangelos

Hey, I recognize those bar clamps, they're definitely Pittsburgh clamps, love those things, so cheap and useful, and you can't go wrong with a lifetime warranty!

Loved the video. Going to start up my own community woodshop to allow others a chance to do it as well.

Can't watch videos like this. Just like craft videos, at the end inevitably I'm all ooooh, I want to do that!
Awesome bed. Going to have to check out the mattress place, thanks.

Nice job Bob. The barn wood gives it a cool rustic look. I enjoyed last weeks podcast as well.

I have to say I loved the way it turned out. Also had to leave a comet as it looks like there is another Sterling that is a fellow maker.

I really like the same wood plank is used for all 3 drawers, makes it look continuous.

Amazing project video. I built a queen size bed frame myself with just a circular saw. Wish I had a shop with more tools. It would've made things much easier.
