I really want a “clearer” ending for Peter, she and the other. It was like Peter went to Naomi for sex and to Syl for emotional connection.
I was interested for 400pages and the ending jumped in out of blue. Everything was solved in a blink. I want more 😢

I understand that! I kinda liked that Peter's ending was blurry and wasn't just magically resolved - feels more real to me

I have the same exact copy! I think Intermezzo might be my second favorite by Rooney - the first being Normal People ofc. Such a genuinely good book. I finished it 2 weeks ago and find myself occasionally thinking about random passages or reflections I had while reading it 🥹

I love messy relationships but I stand corrected that this book is viral because it is written by sally rooney. Period. Your review isn't very objective rather it is showing your love for sally rooney as a fan and your passion for liking her writing. I mean VALID! why the hell not! But if this book was written by any other author, the story itself isn't really so interesting. Actually its been done so many times. But I guess I'll have to give it a try though, this is not going to be a high priority.

I am interested to where you've seen it done before? I love exploring sibling relationships and haven't found many in the lit fic genre. I would argue that all of rooney's stories on the service aren't all that compelling - beautiful world where are you is one of my favourite novels ever but just the blurb on the back doesn't sound that interesting. It is how Rooney writes and how she fleshes out her characters that makes it amazing. Of course I have bias having liked Rooney's other work, but I would say it if I didn't love the book.

@@CreativityDiaries There are a lot of Urdu books that deals with messy siblings. One that is translated into english is called The Idle stance on the Tippler pigeon. I love promoting translated fiction books so genre books are my jam! 😝As a reader, I love nothing more than finding the perfect book irrespective of who has written it. But I often feel with prominent names that, the books are massively overhyped and not attractive. However, thanks to marketing, they are everywhere, but that is both a pro and a con. I love what sally rooney does but, is she an iconic writer? not really! 🫣

@@CreativityDiaries I’m really sorry if I made you feel like your review is inauthentic or wrong cz it’s not.. your Reviews was subjective and there is nothing wrong with you loving and fanning over an author. If anything I hope I get the same reaction when I eventually read this book.

The way you're pronouncing it is correct :) Ivan is a Russian/Slavic name and in Russian at least it's Ee-van

No she's pronouncing it like he's an Irish girl called Yvonne. In Ireland he would be called Ivan (eye-van, equal emphasis). The character is Irish, although with a father of Slavic origin. I've never heard the eastern European pronunciation used in Ireland where I live. BTW Rooney uses the Irish pronunciation in any interviews I've heard.

@@brianboru8155 okay? But Tay is Canadian so myself as both a Canadian and someone who is Russian, I'm correcting her Canadian pronounciation of the name. She was close but a bit off and writing it out isn't easy lol

@@TamilaSushkova Alright I get that but Ivan in the book is Irish not Russian. BTW Sally Rooney, who's Irish, not surprisingly uses the anglicised/Irish version in interviews such as the NYT one available on YT.

Yvonne is a girl's name, as he's Irish his name is Ivan (eye-van).

LOL when you were talking about books being _too_ detailed, i felt that like * looks at all the hp books past book 3 * the actual worst and it's not good writing, it's lazy and just.. filler, you know?
