Things in the US aren’t great right now. I feel pretty hopeless with the way everything’s going. Thank you for uploading and making my day a little better :)
one thing that has helped me feel a little less hopeless is to look for organizations or events in my local community (think small!) and figure out how to get involved! maybe ask at your library/local bookstore if there are any ways to contribute - a good place to start!
@@marenhumblebee2736 omg…I sure hope not 😞 I’m so sorry my fellow Americans have failed not only all humans at home, but also across the world. It’s all so frightening that’s for sure. I am so happy that I watched your review about Intermezzo, cause it’s my first Sally Rooney book and I am struggling but last night it got interesting so thank you for sharing your thoughts 🎀
your energy calms my soul, this was a lovely time thank you for updating! i might just make intermezzo my first sally rooney book, the way you described it was a perfect recommendation.
i watch/listen to your booktube videos (including your vlogs!) every weekend while cleaning my apartment, it feels like i'm just chatting with a friend while doing housework (and adding new books to my tbr every time) so i hope you continue to make the videos you enjoy!
You are my favourite working hours auditory stim; your plot summaries engage my brain just enough without it getting too distracted (except when I decide to write a comment haha). I very much appreciate your content and overall vibe ♥
I remeber getting so worked up, frustrated and angry when you talked about 'bad luck charm' in your halloween video! Glad you found better books after that 😊 'The wild huntress' sounds exciting and I'm adding it to my list. Thank you for the video!
This video is a balm amid this dark, scary week. Thank you ❤ I am currently reading the Vita Nostra (translated) and it’s so strange yet so good! I’m intrigued!
okay just finished the video so I can leave a more complete comment! first of all, I have not read any of these books because I guess I hate being current and knowing what people are talking about, but I will say you've sold me on The Lost Story and Intermezzo. Intermezzo has such a beautiful cover, so I was very intrigued by it (literally judging a book by its cover lol, but in a positive way?), and your review sold me. I definitely agree with Sally Rooney's philosophy in that clip, and I am interested in seeing it expanded upon. Very hopeful! I will note I also already have Nightmare Before Kissmas in my possession bc of your Halloween video, lololol I'm just saving it for December. Seconnnndd, that bit about Fledgling made me curious. When you mentioned she was a black vampire, and then that she was in the body of a ten-year-old, my mind immediately started racing with thoughts on perhaps commentary about the sexualization of black children, or something like that. When you mentioned actual sex scenes...it kinda screeched to a halt. That seems like something pretty tough to read, and the kinda thing I'm hesitant to even have a take on without having read it. Child vampires are always a bit of a weird subject to tackle, and that specific take seems...complicated. I'm interested in the book but also I am NOT SURE I could handle it. Hm. Third, because I just remembered: oh my god I feel you on standalones. I've been getting into romcoms recently because of some Current Events and why is everything a seven book series. girl keep it tight.
A Cari video is just the pick me up I need! Foster really hit me hard at the end. I might see the Small Things Like These movie this weekend. I just picked up Emma Lion vol. 5 to improve morale 😅.
I would highly recommend watching the Irish film adaptation of Foster called The Quiet Girl (2022). I haven't yet read the book so I can't compare the two but the film is absolutely beautiful and is one of the handful of films I have seen this year that had me bawling my eyes out at the end (in a good way).
It's crazy that your voice is soothing even if had talked a lot and it sounds a bit different. 💜 I'm not a contemporary romance girl, but Daydream sounds like it could be relatable.
I did not have a good reading experience with a Sally Rooney book (thank you, Normal People, for that) but Cari’s rave about Intermezzo made me want to read it 😅🙃
I’ve got some Christmas romcom recommendations! The Christmas Wish - Lindsey Kelk, The Christmas Swap - Talia Samuels, and Kiss Her Once For Me - Alison Cochrun
I’m so glad you enjoyed Intermezzo! I share a lot of your thoughts about it, too. I find myself randomly thinking about all the characters (even the dog)!
I’m back because I didn’t finish the review yesterday and never realized you read Fledgling! I was on an Octavia Butler high and looking for a book to read after Lilith Brood or the Xenogenesis series and found this amazing book. I so wish we got to follow the characters more but yes she passed away shortly after this book. I was blown away by the introduction of the main character and almost put the book down as I wasn’t interested in reading about intimacy between children and grown folks. I thought Octavia lost it for a second 😂. However, I stuck with it and after the physical differences were explained I looked at the main character being small/young-looking as an evolutionary feature to assist her in survival and her own manipulation when it came to finding food/assistance. I had to find some way to rationalize her appearance or I wouldn't have enjoyed the book. As soon as I did that, god I found this to be one of her best works.
I cannot express the SHOCK I experienced while reading The Wild Huntress. I think one character deserved so much better than they got (hopefully, you know who). As always, amazing video
Love your videos and even though i have such a long book list, i get a thrill hearing about new great books and adding them to my book reads. Can't wait to read intermezzo!
I will give intermezzo a chance. You make it sound really good. I have read a couple of her books before and did not like them but maybe this will be the one that changes my mind on her.
Finally!!!! A BookTuber I follow that loved The Lost Story like I did and appreciated it for what it was. The amount of hate this book gets I feel is completely unwarranted (see Goodreads reviews). I found myself smiling while reading this book. I didn’t research what this book was about which made the reading experience much better. it had me at “portal to another world”…that’s all I needed to know 💜 Sure, it felt juvenile at times but still absolutely loved it.
Great wrap-up💞I got some interesting recommendations from this video. I can watch you for far longer than most UA-camrs. Also you've convinced me to pick Intermezzo up even though I haven't read a Sally Rooney book since I read Normal people in 2021.,
Hey Cari, just an idea for your vlogs to help with the whole algorithm issue, maybe you could do an irl like 15 min read with you at the end of your video where you just film yourself reading for 15 min at a location and then the viewer can watch along after the vlog? Just an idea! I'm no youtuber but I just hate that you're having that issue because I feel like you make such thoughtful content that I truly enjoy
Your take on The Wild Huntress lines up with how I felt, yep! I typically at least have an inkling for twists but Lordy she threw me for a loop. I had to put it down and come back later that day 😅 But the vibes of the book were perfect for emerging fall weather, and it truly feels like reading a fairy tale. Enough detail to become immersed in the feel of the world, but it was also a quick read - it didn’t get bogged down like it could have. I think she tied it up pretty well for the wrench she threw in her readers’ comfort journey! I have a feeling I will enjoy her other books as well, so now I’ll have to check my library 📚
I adore Sally Rooney’s way of writing people and relationships but I have to agree, I did not enjoy Conversations with Friends or Beautiful World Where Are You. That being said, Normal People was my favorite book from her until I read Intermezzo and now I’m obsessed with it!! I love those characters and I just wanna live in a book with them forever ❤
Yes! She really went into detail describing her body but then never really dug into what she was trying to say. And the lack of consent in the vampire followers but then the weird mating rules, idk she never chose a direction 🥲
Was so curious about your thoughts on Intermezzo, interesting that you really enjoyed it. I really struggled through Peter's POV but the other sections are a good introspection on the character's line of thinking, especially Margaret & Ivan whose relationship I really rooted for. Nothing beats Normal People for me though 😄
I loved The Wild Huntress!! My first Emily Lloyd-Jones. It was so atmospheric and lyrical, and I agree, it felt like old folklore/fairytale, the storytelling is phenomenal. I loved the twists and totally didn’t see them coming!❤
I love your videos, added some stuff to my Libby shelves, and honestly? needed this. ❤ also, you describe how forgettable pumpkin spice cafe is and then legit forgot to put it in the video description 😂 no judgements, just found it amusing 😂😂😂 I'm 1253 in line for Intermezzo now 😂
You’re so right, I think the period of American history you’re referring to is called the “Reconstruction Era,” unfortunately there is a reason we don’t get taught it in U.S. education.
Always glad to see your reading wrap ups 💜 This month I read: And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, the ATLA comic the Promise, Anne of Windy Poplars by L.M Montgomery, Jacaranda by Gaël Faye and Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett. All very good reads 😊 I'm not sure when Jacaranda will be translated, but I recommend it, it's an interesting perspective on the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda (Small Country by the same author is already available in English).
thanks for keeping me company after my work shift! i love your videos whether they are short or long but i do love long videos❤ excited for your xmas video! speaking of ali hazelwood, have you read Bride? hope you are doing well❤❤❤❤❤
I have to quickly rave about fable they recently added a “spice-o-meter”. As someone who does not like reading spice it’s so wonderful to be able to gauge a book without having to read a ton of reviews that may spoil it. Love fable ❤
The plot twist in the Wild Huntress had me SHOOKETH I was gobsmacked honestly. In my opinion, this was her best book, at least it was the one I enjoyed the most. But yeah, I was not okay after I read that book lol
Oh my gosh I read a courting of Bristol Keats as an arc in October and I LOVED it. Definitely has its issues and the ending was… an interesting choice but I love Mary E Pearson so I trust where she’s going. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
omg when you mentioned ghost of a chance you UNLOKCED a memory of 14 year old me reading my first ever romance book (ghost of a chance by janet quin-harkin) which i am just now realising came out in 1984
The plot of Best Hex Ever feels kinda similar to The Honey Witch which I recommend, if you haven't read it yet. It has one smut scene but it doesn't focus on that too much. The vibes are more springtime than autumn tho. I'm on the waiting list for The Wild Huntress at my library now, that sounds so interesting I'm so hyped!!!
About Daydream, as someone that is autistic, having a diagnosis is hard for a lot of people and, true, not inherently necessary since It won't change you. BUT It does help you understand your necessites and why your brain works the way that it does; and get the help that you need, that being governmental, psychological or getting medication for anxiety, depression, adhd, etc
Agree with other comments that we needed you to take our minds off the disaster in the U.S. I disliked Normal People and swore off Sally Rooney but now I am intrigued by your glowing review - may have to try Intermezzo.
Hearing you talk about how you have to like characters, and as someone who didn't like ANY of the characters in both BWWAY and Conversations with Friends, I think you will enjoy Normal People whenever you get around to it. It's the only Rooney I loved (haven't read Intermezzo yet) and I loved it so much because the two main characters were so painfully, hideously relatable and real and GOOD. They were both loveable despite their flaws because they're such kind people at the end of the day.
I liked Fledgling! I read it for my African American Writers class last semester and like you said, it definitely is better when you talk about it with others. There's also definitely something to be said about how Shori, as a young Black girl, is sexualized at a young age (all Ina are, but we see it from Shori's perspective and that's the point). The other black vampire story we read in that class--because if vampires are symbolic then Black vampires are jam-packed with symbolism--was My Soul To Keep by Tananarive Due. Far less weird pedophilia stuff, and it still discusses Blackness and removal of agency. I thought it was a much more captivating read, too.
Not much luck with the autumnal reads... I'm glad you had some good books to balance it out and fingers crossed for better Christmas ones 🤞 If you're looking for recommendations and haven't read Second Chances In New Port Steven, I highly recommend. It was my first 5 star romance in years, it's MLM, second chance where one of the characters is trans. Takes place in Florida so not much snow and one of the characters has a certain attitude with his family but I loved it anyway ❤ Can't wait for the next video ❤
Wish I could watch this video, but I have an exam today 😂. Just wanted to say though thank you Cari for being an inspiration for me for my mental health ❤
I felt THE SAME about The Wild Huntress!! I was in so much shock I thought what happened towards the end was misleading or faked…until the book ended and nothing changed
Your videos are what I look forward to every Friday 😊 Even if they would be just 20min long, they offer the comfort I need after a long week of being a full-time working mom ❤

yes
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
omg when you mentioned ghost of a chance you UNLOKCED a memory of 14 year old me reading my first ever romance book (ghost of a chance by janet quin-harkin) which i am just now realising came out in 1984
I LOVE YOUR VLOGS !!!!!! And I literally wait for them. It's like I want to live in them. Sorry for the aggressive comment lmao 🤣❤
I disliked Normal People and swore off Sally Rooney but now I am intrigued by your glowing review - may have to try Intermezzo.
now i really reeeaaally need to put a hold on the wild huntress! 😬
I'm ready for this 💗
Running to get The Wild Huntress 😂 also random but I loveeee your shirt!! It looks so cozy. Where is it from?!
Just wanted to say though thank you Cari for being an inspiration for me for my mental health ❤
good luck on your test!!!
The Wild Huntress is one of my only 5 star reads this year!
I felt THE SAME about The Wild Huntress!! I was in so much shock I thought what happened towards the end was misleading or faked…until the book ended and nothing changed
Your videos are what I look forward to every Friday 😊
Even if they would be just 20min long, they offer the comfort I need after a long week of being a full-time working mom ❤
Cari: there would be a link to my reading vlog in the description bc i know you probably haven't seen it
Me, who has religiously watched every single one of her videos on both of her channels since that random tuesday i discovered her in 2020: 😶🌫😶🌫😶🌫
Every video I end up spending my time half listening and half adding everything to me storygraph. 😂
Foster was lovely. Thank you!
