Yeah, that was my mistake. I gave my Adansonii too much light, and it burned like Anakin Skywalker at the end of Episode 3 of Star Wars. Terrible, I know. I have its offspring, two baby stems. We'll call them Luke and Leia. They're doing fine now, away from the sun, and thriving. 😁
I am now forever going to call all of my plants with scorched leaves "Ani" or "looking like Vader" from now on because of this comment. Hahhaha perfect description

My daughter gave me a clipping of hers, I plopped her in the corner of my fish tank, and gave her a moss pole and she’s been happy every since. I don’t have to do anything to her she just lives happy there
It’s good to know they always grow back. Mine was clearly way overwatered when I rescued it from a dark, big box store and looks a bit stressed. I hope it bounces back. I’m thinking of taking it out of the pot, checking the roots, and adding some perlite to the soil. I’m glad they are easy to propagate in case it doesn’t make it.
I would always recommend everyone to check the roots. When I buy plants off Amazon....I go to the reviews and see people say" the soil was soaking wet so I let the plant sit, did not water it and it died of root rot""???and I'm always like why let the plant sit in wet soil if it didn't drain by time it got to you why would you expect different so I say would you rather have no plant or a plant that takes a bit longer to get acclimated

I just relocated my dying mother adansonii to a spot that’s got less wind and less light, we’ll see how that goes…poor guy has been dealing with a spider mite infestation for the last week and a tonne of leaves are browning. I took 2 cuttings of it as a backup, but I really hope there’s no more spider mites.
This was always a plant I didnt like as it never grew well in compost. Then I decided to experiment with growing plants in lecca. A friend gave me a mixture of different cuttings, one of which was an Adonsonii and oh my goodness I have never seen a plant grow so fast. Lecca is great for it allows far more oxygen to the plant roots which grow at a phenomenal rate. Strong roots mean a much faster growing plant and because you have to keep lecca wet you dont get the browning issue on the leaves.
Hello Mr. Sheffield, this is one of my FAVORITE houseplants, I am still on the lookout for the variegated one!! I repotted mine into a self watering pot in a mix of LECA and pumice and she is thriving and no more brown tips!! Thank you for this video and the great tips.
@@SheffieldMadePlantsyes. I have one only because I volunteered at a plant wear house until I accumulated enough credit in their system, but the sticker price for a rooted cutting with 7 leaves in a nursery pot was $250 usd. No way I could justify paying for it otherwise.
I was afraid of getting a cutting of this plant at first but now I may actually give it a try. It just looks so high maintenance with those fancy leaves
Finally a video on the Adansonii! I always only see videos on the deliciosa and even though i have an obliqua (i think) these two are more similar to each other. Mine is doing great though for the five weeks it lived with me. There are some burnt leaves but those are old and from where its preowners had put it. Now i don't know if i can somehow attach it to a piece of wood for its air roots to cling onto and most of all I'm not sure how to adapt it when it grows taller (could i just take the old wood out or would that destroy the roots)
My MIL gave me some Adansonii clippings a couple of years ago that I chopped up and rooted. I put half in soil and half in LECA as an experiment since my husband dabbled in it with veggies several years back and I already had the supplies. The ones in soil are doing much better so I thought it was a nutrient deficiency and recently started mixing the fertilizer stronger for the LECA one. That one is in a window, though, so that might also be part of the problem. It is a north window, but it has been a harsh summer with fewer clouds and higher temps than usual. It’s finally going to normal summer weather now that fall is nearly here.

Oh my goodness..I would buy one or more of your t shirts 😂👏🏻 thank you Columbo, I always struggle with these guys too. I’m off to the shops to buy one 🪴✨
Help! Today I purchased a sick looking Monstera, to make matters worse I've never grown one before so I don't know what's wrong with her. She's about 1' tall, the soil is still moist, and her leaves are sort of...sad, wrinkled, bubbled-looking and crumpled under. She looks wilted. There are indeed brown spots on a few leaves, but they are not dry and crunchy, it literally tore apart and disintegrated when I touched the brown spot. Like rot. If I had to guess I would guess over watering. She's still a pretty green color, I hope I can help her. To be honest I felt sorry for her and that's why I bought her. I wanted to rescue her from that box store and give her a home she can THRIVE in. If I hurt her any further, I'll feel awful, please help! ❤
Young Mr. Sheffield. I pinned my straggly mess to the soil in a different pot and next month I'll cut it off it's original plant. I also think they can be crawlers instead of climbers.
Yayyyy I needed this my Monstera adansonii is getting some brownish spots so I'm gonna give her a trim and repot on the pole. She's been thriving ever since putting her on the moss pole. Is this going to be a pretty similar care guide for rhaphidaphora tetrasperma?

Yeah…. I divided one pot of adonsonii into three to test what spots it might like, and the one I put in my bathroom window with my Hoyas got extremely sunburnt. Great video as always! A question though: in your video on Monstera Adansonii propagation a while ago, you made the cuttings much smaller - just one leaf. Here you’re recommending two leaves, then taking one off. Which method has worked best in comparison? Thanks!
Hi. I have a question, I have recently become addicted to getting houseplants. In 3 weeks I have bought over 40 and rescued 1. My question is, how long after you bring them home, settle them and start caring etc will you know if the plant is suited to your home? Will it show signs of distress soon or can it take a long time? I have new growth on almost all the plants I have brought home... My rescue (calathea) seems to look alot better than when I got it, which was about 2 weeks ago now. I guess I'm just worried after spending over 200 quid on plants. I've also switched from tap water to mineral water and I bottom water, have also bought 6500 lumen light bulbs to increase light during the day. Looking forward to your response. Anneliese

That's what i did to mines i put him in the direct sunlight and now his leaves are brown so o want to know how to help him get his brown leaves back
Oh my goodness..I would buy one or more of your t shirts 😂👏🏻 thank you Columbo, I always struggle with these guys too. I’m off to the shops to buy one 🪴✨
Well worth adding to the collection 👍
Yeah could be overwatering or could be something else like sun damage. Just try and give it the right conditions and new leaves should come out better
@@SheffieldMadePlants thank you 🩷
I just love your videos! Such fun! I needed this info. My adonsoni is looking a bit cranky of late.
Glad it was helpful!
Great tips, luckily I've been good to my Adasonii and she's thriving but she's a baby, I've only had her a few months.
A good start then!
Young Mr. Sheffield. I pinned my straggly mess to the soil in a different pot and next month I'll cut it off it's original plant. I also think they can be crawlers instead of climbers.
A nice hack!
Mine was nearly dead until I put her outside (north Florida, US). Now she's beautiful. I'm afraid to bring her in this winter.
Do you need to? Is the temps not high enough in your winter?
@@SheffieldMadePlants I'm hopeful that they'll be able to stay outside most of the time, but we do have days that dip down below freezing.
Yayyyy I needed this my Monstera adansonii is getting some brownish spots so I'm gonna give her a trim and repot on the pole. She's been thriving ever since putting her on the moss pole.
Is this going to be a pretty similar care guide for rhaphidaphora tetrasperma?
Sorry not got that plant. Good luck with your adansonii
Love, love, love your videos. Can you tell me where you get your trellises? Thanks in advance
Thanks!

Wish I had seen this video yesterday Richard. I have chopped mine back so many times for a ‘fresh start’ Yesterday, I lost the plot and threw the cuttings in the bin. Will I retrieve them now? It’s a big fat no from me. This plant gives me no joy at all😥
Fair enough. Sometimes it’s just not meant to be
Just ordered a trellis & multivitamin - thank you for the discount codes!
Hope you enjoy it! 😁
Thanks for this great video🤩
Glad you liked it!
Hello , how do you keep the aerial node moist , since it is not like moss pole which we have to keep moist? it is supported on wood!!!!
I don’t keep it moist and it still attaches
Yeah…. I divided one pot of adonsonii into three to test what spots it might like, and the one I put in my bathroom window with my Hoyas got extremely sunburnt. Like to the point that when I noticed how unhappy it was, every single leaf was discolored and crinkled. Fulfilled its job in telling me the spot was too much morning sun, but I did feel bad about killing it 😅
Nice process of elimination 👍
If i trim the leaves off will the leaves growing back healthy and green
Yep
Where do you get your plant support from? It's awesome

I love these leaf shaped stakes! Your monsteras look great on them, even the ugly father
They are great!
I literally just tossed one of these in my garbage pail 😂 Thankfully I have another that isn’t as far gone as the trashed one so I’m going to use your tips with that one. Thank you! Oh…one more thing (pun intended) kudos for your Columbo reference.
I couldn’t not! 😂
Did you spy my garden and saw my ugly Adansonii?! Lol 😂 thankfully this video will help my fugly plant
Hope it does!
Where did you get the wooden 'trellis' from? I quite like that. Hate plastic ones and moss poles.

Now i get why it never crisped up. Because I dont get any direct sunlight in my room :D
One saving grace at least
I'm going to try the water additive, would you recommend the stress coat or the water conditioner??
Either will be good. More or less the same thing
Great video as always! A question though: in your video on Monstera Adansonii propagation a while ago, you made the cuttings much smaller - just one leaf. Here you’re recommending two leaves, then taking one off. Which method has worked best in comparison? Thanks!
Good memory! They both work actually so you can do 1 leaf per cutting
Anneliese
Sounds like you’ve got a great setup. For some some plants it can take a little while to start showing they are unhappy. Calatheas tend to do this.
Hey, sheffield, could you do a video about cat palms or palms? I looked for one you may have but did not find it. Thanks, and keep up the great videos!
Thanks! Yes but first i need to get one and own it for a while 😅
@SheffieldMadePlants understandable lol thanks for replying back!
HI Mr Sheffield, How do you make the leaves bigger? is it by using fertilizer?
Yes. And generally propping them up makes leaves grow bigger and mature. Moss poles do help too!
It's the tying them to something to grow up that makes the big difference
Hi Mr. Sheffield. Only the white parts of my variegated monstera is browning. The green parts are perfectly fine. Any ideas?
Tends to happen to the white part apparently. No chlorophyll in the white part so it dies off
love all the climbing boards.... anyone know wheree to get them

love hearing your little internal arguments 😠👿
I’m glad someone does 😂
I got a question now that the season is changing. Just worried that my adosonii may wilt because of change of season, should I water less since it's colder or maintain my regular weekly watering?
You’ll prob be watering less but always water when the soil is dry 😁
What is the stake on your bedroom adensonii? It looks nicer than a moss pole.

I don't have any browning on my plant it's just an ulgy looking plant have tried everything and living in Belgium we have the same weather as the UK lot's of grey days😢
Sounds like it's time to move on and donate it 😅
Is there any video regarding mosaic virus? Cure, remedy or what to do next if possible. By the way, this video gives me an option to trim back my well grown infected Adansonii 😢
Sorry no video on that. I’m not what it is because I don’t think I’ve had it
@@SheffieldMadePlants Thank you anyway. Good to hear you haven't gone through this "emotional breakdown" (literally). I guess I just have to trim the infected stems, throw away the soil and start from scratch 🌿😭🌿😓🌿
Hello 😊
My monstera plant has outgrown its pot. Which month can I prune it in London weather or it can be done any time of the year?
Thank you
It’s best end of winter but it won’t harm it any time of year
@@SheffieldMadePlants Thank you very much 😁
Does the monstera adansonii need the same kind of care as the monstera esqueletto?
Never had that one
Thanks Mr Sheffield for another 😂 video. I learn a lot from your videos 🙏
My pleasure miss J
Richard, im having a really hard time with my Adansonii, ive had several. i have tiny cuttings now in one pot that i rooted in perlite (sp) they are lookin like crap. i will move the most favorable looking one into a pot on its own. i have tried so many times. a friend has a huge one (its horrid!) Too much sun by far! its all bleached out & thirsty looking. i get suttings from it & they dont do real well. I live in Fl. i can keep it inside, which direction should i face it in my window, please? HELP ME PLANT WIZARD SHEFFIELD! Ive seen them in nurseries, but they are too pricey. cant afford it. what do you suggest? Great content, thanks for the great info on this plant. im very good with my plants. But this one torments me. lol.
I’d stick it near an east or west facing window where it doesn’t get any direct sun. Might is set back about 2 meters from the window
Mine just looks droopy and sad.
plants always grow back? please do an in depth like this on a maranta prayer plant! mine looks sad and dead-ish but still green stems, the leaves all curled and closed on themselves... I dont quite understand what is happening to it or how to rescue it... do you have any pointers?
Hard to say without seeing it. Once you find the problem they grow back 😅
Here with the brown leaves :'( I have plants that are way harder to maintain but it seems like he always get older leaves always end up having brown spots...
Something it’s not liking in your environment
I’d love to have the same trellis. Anyone know where he got it? :)

@@SheffieldMadePlants thank you so much! Love your videos btw, so educational! My collection expanded 5x in size because I got confident watching your videos and tips. I have to say I’m gathering up a small jungle :) I will always keep coming back to your channel since you were the first reason for my success. I live in Slovenia so our temperatures are quite similar, thank you for ALL the tips!!
Mine is just bushy, won't climb or produce aireal roots.. it doesn't act like a vining plant. I'm lost with this plant😢
Have you got something behind it?
@SheffieldMadePlants yes, but three stems/ leaves don't seem to care. I tried securing a few of them to it but nothing has changed, they just grow long and flop over basically. No signs that this plant wants to climb at all. And I searched it online multiple times to double check that I did indeed have the plant I thought, lol
I’ve had my adansonii about a year and it was doing fantastic but then I started getting yellow leaves, at first it was just lowest leaves so I didn’t worry and now it can be any leaf so I’m wondering if I need to put it on a pole or plank
Should help. Or it might need upsizing
In my area, in 4 different huge nurseries in Ontario, Canada that I frequent, is that a Monstera Adonsonii OR is it a Swiss Cheese Philodendron... I find if its classified as a Monstera its priced higher. Could you please settle the argument for me, are they the same? I find it hard to believe a Monstera and Philodendron are the same by title in any settting....Thank you 😂
I think they might be the same. I hear monsters called split leaf Philo often
Dear Mr. Sheffield, Where did you get the lovely supports? I'd like to buy them. Regards, A.

Like it!
Great info than you
My pleasure 😊
Thanks so much, I put my guy in the morning sun so I won't ut him in the direct sun k
You could give your vitamins to your plants that might perk them up.😅
That's a good idea!
Thought so lol.🤣
😊
"turn them into lots more plants that you have no idea what to do with" richard just @ me next time
Got you on speed dial
Lol I was just wondering what the secret is to this pain in the butt plant and this video popped up. Ahhh!!! Thank you
You bet!
Terrific editing.
Thank you very much
How can I contact you?
I’m on Insta
Ok, ALL items are addressed in nouns as females. So calling “him”, him is wrong. Plants are always addressed in the tense of “female”. So she is just being finkie, like we “females” always are.
Ah got it!
I had one that was over 5 feet tall, then…
THRIPS 🤦🏼♀️😢👻🪴
Thanks for the video.
Sorry to hear that!
@SheffieldMade Plants.
I am sorry if I offended you. I was only asking you for advice. You say you have listened to my Mantra? I was not complaining, Truly. I do not want to upset you or embarrass you. I only wanted advice Sir. I do water all my plants, with the help of my Partner, as I am sight impaired. I speach texted you. As I said, we've purchased another Metre from another Plant Chap here on UA-cam. He did nit tell me to water my plants, I did not mention I had contacted you Sir. I would never be so rude. We do water our plants, I simply wanted a water meter as you said you use one. Truly I meant no offence to you. I will always listen to your advice Sir.
Kindest Regards,
Johannah. 🌱🪴 x
No offence taken at all! I’m just wondering why you can get a reading from all your meters. Sounds weird. I’ve heard they can be hit or miss but strange to not get any reading.
