This may be practically stupid in some way(s), but are there such things as transparent dashes? I actually like being able to see the wirings. It ups my curiosity and reduces nervousness about working on her.
I recently discovered (and sadly dispatched) an adorable young mouse family in my car. Seems they mostly nested under the raised metal where the front passenger seat bolts down, but my search started with one of the parents dying in my AC blower fan. I already ripped out all the seats, grounded carpet, center console, and much of the dash area, and there are signs of past life in there (hair, grime, moisture->rust?). With dog days of summer still rolling, my main priority now is to sanitize all the AC channels (since I still have her driving with a Star Wars scrap ship aesthetic), but I'd also feel better about disnfecting the wirings (and everything inside the dash)-- are there recommended cleaning agents/products for cleaning wirings? My readily available default would be misting a rag with lemon Lysol spray.
I used Dawn dishwashing liquid. Im glad you mentioned Lemon. If I had to do it again I would buy a lemon and squeeze it into my Dawn & water mix. Lemon is great on bad smells.
@@saneautoThank you. I’m deeper in the dash than in this video now (my metal parts have rust) and I’ve been having trouble with all the plastic push mounts. Is there a tool you recommend for prying push mounts out without breaking them? I saw a red ‘crows feet’ one in another of your vids that appeared to be stronger and more wieldy than my big, weak Amazon ones. Also, is there a coating you might recommend for keeping rust off these metal fixtures once I remove it? Thanks again!!
... be fun to upgrade the speakers I thought but never did .. would be a drop in and the pigtail connectors are available also if not using the OEM ones over again ..?!!
Is it worth it to sound deaded the floor? I could use this video as reference to get the center console out, but I'm not sure how worth of an upgrade it would be (based of how much work it is to remove the carpet)
I dont remember but I think there were 2 near the front of the knee panel. I also remember an air bag near there so be careful around it. How to disconnect both batteries ua-cam.com/video/6Ui8UDZ9I7k/v-deo.htmlsi=O-alWUc130iHCW-1
Actually! Yeah there was this weekend project long ago in a place not so far away; Correct install of 3rd Gen Prius Air conditioner diverter door servo actuator motors ua-cam.com/video/gI7B6NdvsnY/v-deo.html
@randyvie7140 Going from memory here (so lift and wiggle and grunt to figure out what I forgot lol): Disconnect heater core at firewall (of course). Safely evacuate AC and disconnect the lines at the firewall. Disconnect the steering shaft. Take some pictures in the right footwell for later to see how the air unit sits. Remove any interior hardware securing the air unit to the firewall - there's at least one fastener in the right footwell that goes over a stud in an L-shaped slot. Remove anything (hardware, wiring) that's keeping that structural tube from moving rearward. Lift that structural tube up out of the slots and then the whole thing pivots down and rearward. Remove the bracket (small Phillips screw) holding the inlet and outlet of the heater core. Slide the heater core out. Get a buddy to help when it's time to wrestle everything back into place - it's a whole lot easier with two people.
@@mikerice9710 thanks Mike, I did the job over the Thanksgiving holiday. I did it by myself which definitely was a challenge. And the reassembly process drove a little crazy but in the end I got it all figured out and back together and it’s running & driving great with heat again.
@@mikerice9710 about to give it a go... gonna do the ac evaporator too bc someone said it'd be wise to get it while I'm doing the heater core. any chance I launch an airbag during this? Just unplug both batteries to prevent this?
Thanks again, Victor! I think I probably made the same mistakes you did reassembling the center console, but I finally got it. :)
Glad I could help!

looks a big task mate not sure if I started that it would ever get back together again

Just wondering do you need to unscrew any screws to remove the knee panel near the steering wheel?

Any videos - or even a write up - on Gen 3 blend door actuator?

Okay, now that you’ve gotten this far. How do you get to the heater core for replacement?
