A little late to the game (and at the risk of sounding know-it-all ish): 1. "Pop" up and instead of replacing you hands with your feet, place your feet just before the IndoBoard, on ground. 2. If you see your IndoBoard is roughly steady when your feet hit the ground in #1, consider jumping from the ground to the board in one motion once you have performed a rep of #1. So it'll be two motions: Push down with your hands to bring your feet near the board and then jump off the ground and on to the board. 3. Build confidence there then move on to "shortened" pop ups. This will be exactly what Holly spoke about in the video, except be in a more "bear crawl" position, rather than a high plank. The closer your feet are to your board when doing this, the easier it'll be. 4. Progress your feet further back when you feet comfortable with each rep or set until you're ready to do exactly what Holly displays. I hope this helps!
First things first. You need to be able to do 10-20 push ups with perfect form, you have to have the basic strength to pop yourself up (tough for girls). Secondly you have to have enough hip flexibility to bring your front leg up under you in a pop up (really tough for guys).
Thanks stoked - I'm going to make myself an indo board soon to add these to my pop up practice - I also do a few minutes of surf visualization while working on pop ups each day. only been a few weeks and I feel so much more confident!
Very cool, I bought an Indo today after watching this vid weeks ago, pretty cool way to practice pop ups. Also a pretty good shelter in place activity.
Nicely done video & suggestions!! Also the idea of closing your eyes during popup practice is 👍🏻👍🏻 . This is great surf prep for beginners and for experienced surfers who want to work on their technique. I’m going to start doing a few session of these a week. I love my Indo Board for taking it to that next level! Every surfer should have one of these at home!! ✌🏼🏄🏻♀️
I just think it should be mentioned that the technique in first exercise can not be used for anything else than longboards...the whole motion is coming out of the feet touching the ground
Thanks for this Video, been looking at ways to exercise on Indo board during lockdown, nailed the pop up one fist go buy my pop up in the ocean not great 🤔 I wouldn’t pop up with my feet parallel? I’m guessing this focuses on the strength element (which I have) but I think I have a bad habit technique. Pop my back knee down but I am up and riding the green waves and I’m relatively fast. Enjoying your challenges, thanks ☺️
Hi Holly, this is good stuff. I see you've done a couple of videos. I reckon you should do more. Thanks for this - there needs to be more of this stuff on youtube. you rock, stay safe :)
So I see your pop ups consist of pushing up while your feet/toes push into the ground. Am I correct in saying that would only work on a longboard. Wouldn't a 6 foot board be too short for a 6 foot guy to have His feet on the back of the board when popping up?
Kind of weird to me but if I am having trouble popping up popping up on an indo board is gonna be that much harder plus your twisting your body. I don't get how it's gonna help if I can't even get up?
Hi James, it helps to work on the first part, the pop up without the indo board until you have that down. Then you can progress from there. If you start slowly with the basics, it makes the more difficult indo exercise a bit easier.
There is one very very important part of the pop up Nobody mentioned and that is the length of your arms, bcs when you got longer arms is easier to get your foot on front
The only problem I see with using the Indo board is that your feet are pointed at the "nose" of the board at the end of the pop-up and not to one side of the board or the other (regular or goofy), which would give you optimum balance on a surfboard. I'd be concerned about creating a muscle memory that I'd have to eventually undo.
Your 100% correct! ! this is not the ideal framework or platform to build the muscle memory for your ideal pop-up stance . . The end result will be you developing a bad habit that you will have to deal with which will slow you down in catching your next wave. .🌊
Sorry for what I'm about to say, but for beginners, I strongly advise against exercising with the indo board. Popup is a muscle memory movement and with your movement with the indo board, the feet will always end up in the wrong place.
Might be able to sell some Indo boards doing that. But what I was hoping you were going to cover. Was popping up from your knees instead of your feet.like you will have to do if you're six foot and you're riding a 5-foot for surfboard. You have to pop up from your thighs or your knees 😉 anyway maybe that's something for your next video
so u want me to stand up on a wave with my feet like this 👣. Cuz I am like 100 percent Shur when u surf u want your feet to be apart from each outher like a snowboard
Vintlb yup. Bad muscle memory. Good training for explosive fitness and balance but is training your brain to think you can pop using your toes and land with feet parallel.
TED has ruined the world! Why do instructors today sound like a disc jockey selling the latest flavor of something? TED! Also tired of everyone feeling the need to teach the world...everything. Supply and demand, of course... Hey, groms: You don't need this sh*t. Get your fkn surfboard and get in the water. (get off my lawn)
Very Impressive!! now tell me how I avoid breaking my neck the first time I try the 2nd exercise lol
Ernie Pokel just trust yourself and be confident in your abilities
Try it on grass or sand first lol, concrete like her is advanced...
If it happens just put some ice on it.
@@lilfraud591 yup, put some ice, don't complain and just try again.

You are very impressive! It be much harder popping up on that board than the actual surfboard.

I agree...
Thanks for the info
This made me laugh :) because its true
Whether you're a girl or a guy, a push up or hip flexibility can be hard if you aren't training for it. 👍🏻
Women can do pushups. Seen a lot of guys not being able to do even one
Thanks stoked - I'm going to make myself an indo board soon to add these to my pop up practice - I also do a few minutes of surf visualization while working on pop ups each day. only been a few weeks and I feel so much more confident!

Ann Marie Estrada thank you! Good luck with the training and let us know if it helps at all!
I just think it should be mentioned that the technique in first exercise can not be used for anything else than longboards...the whole motion is coming out of the feet touching the ground
Please continue! I like your tutorials!
my jaw DROPPED when you landed on the board

Thank you! Is there anything in particular you would like to see?
WATERLOGGED hey Holly do you guys have an insta page ? Cheers
Im turning 65 and I can still surf but popping up in one fell swoop no longer works for me. Any suggestions??
Thank you . I will practice this.
Wow! I've already made a balance board (you can see the last video on my channel)... But I will start with this exercises!!! Great!
I definitely have to start this exercise...to pop up is almost impossible for me now
I’m a noob and would like to know using that board actually build skills that transfer over to surfing?
Do you alternate legs when training? Or just pop up the way you would when surfing (for me, regular stance)
Simple but great. Thanks
Love it! I gotta get myself an indo board and practice!
awesome Therese! When you get the Indo pop up figured out let us know how it went!
Great stuff to try thanks

Great film thanks
love the pop up onto indo board demo
Can I do this if I never surfed and live by the rocky mountains in Canada?
What a nice excercise to improve your pop up. Thnks.
Loving it!!
Gnarly bruh! Great tips, can't wait to try this on some sick waves 🤙🏼
I just bought a Balance board. Is a balance board more suited to train for surfing or longboarding?
Thank you !
amazing! thanks for the tips 🤙🏼 can't wait to try this
Thanks so much so stoked to try this

so helpful - thanks!
Great instructions and progression walk through! Now I just got to work on my hips!
Thanks Brent, I have the same hip situation! Hard to get up on the indo board without the flexibility!

which indo board would you recommend the classic or the PRO?

Really impressive
Love it. You know what you talking about girl. Awesome video
are these boards grown indoor?
That looks so hard. I hope i dont die doing this.
Nice video! Thank you 🤙🏻
Try popping up keeping your feet of the ground to replicate short board pop ups
Might be able to sell some Indo boards doing that. But what I was hoping you were going to cover. Thanks
you're SO gooood!
Loved it!!
in a shortboard you can't use your toes for the pop up
Who actually had a successful result the first try?
I hurt myself hahaha
Show 👏👏👏👏
Look at that badass
Awesomeness cooooool....
The skill gap from first exercise to second is outrageous.
Well done Holly, but the Indo board is not for beginners, or elderly surfers
oh man I'm starting to think that surfing is hard
advanced...and impressive
Check out this short Surf pop up tutorial video! ua-cam.com/video/YMBvQ9meAhk/v-deo.html
3 rouds 10 reps eyes closed
3 rouds 10 reps with ido board
3 rouds 5-6 reps with ido board pigs dog
so u want me to stand up on a wave with my feet like this 👣. Cuz I am like 100 percent Shur when u surf u want your feet to be apart from each outher like a snowboard
Yea that video is not for surfers but for longboard girls. And on a longboard, you can popup however you want to :'D
Hi Holly. Let's team up
The worst advice all of time for the pop-up... the position on the Indo Board is not the same like on surf so it's ridiculous.
great, except on a real pop up you can't push off of your feet, because they're in the water
Come off the knees people will rage out at you..lol..Off the feet is a bad habit if you want to switch between long boards and shorter boards..
using your toes to spring up is not going to happen on a shortboard
You can’t use your feet to pop up!
very sensual :)
-nose ring and tattoos. no thanks.
LOL, train like that and all you will see is hospital room . No thanks
Come on that's not a Pop Up, and that's not a good on-board positioning...
Vintlb yup. Bad muscle memory. Good training for explosive fitness and balance but is training your brain to think you can pop using your toes and land with feet parallel.
