That exhaust sound was truly terrible, your version. Ha I took a test ride on a 2015 with 6k miles a couple of days ago. Bike rode nicely with smooth gear shifter. I wish it had a few accessories like luggage, engine guard, skid plate etc. Those things really add up as well you know.

I’ve been riding the same bike for 3 years too. 56000 kms. Just got back from my yearly trip to Sydney from Melbourne along the coastal route. Had a very sore bum at the end of each day but apart from that it was a great ride.
I commute daily in all weather conditions.
    Awesome bike.

This was the video which helped me to decide on which bike to buy. My finalists were BMWGS800, Yamaha Tenere & Honda NC750X, of course I always had a soft spot for Hondas all my life.
After watching this video, I went straight to my Honda dealer and became a proud owner of a 2020 Honda NC750X DCT. Your videos are my encyclopedia Brittanica for maintenance refrences. I have looked at many other vlogs but your videos are the best for novices like me. They've given me the confidence and a joy of new hobby. I love how you give step by step guide and the details you go through.
I'm sure there are many out there who are grateful like me. Thank you so much.

I had an F650GS BMWAnalog gauges I blacked out my very small wind screen So my phone GPS and indicator lights would be made highly visible. and since my bike was stolen last week I’m looking for a replacement and thought I’d check it out. I didn’t know these existed, I think they’re better looking than my GS.

Couldn't believe it and am glad you were just having some fun. One year ago I was looking for a new bike and came across your reviews and mod tips. The honest commentary was a factor in my final decision. I picked up my bike last November and have just over 5,000 miles on it. All the luggage pieces, center stand, front fender extension, and the balance of tools to the factory kit (US models don't come with the wrenches to adjust the chain) were added. The center stand and tools should be standard equipment in my opinion. For my riding, I found it best to simply take the wind screen off. Looks a bit odd, but the buffeting is completely gone. Thank you for all your posts. Of the previous bikes I have owned, this one has been the best fit for me. It's a beautiful fall day here in Connecticut and time to go add some miles. Thanks again.

Humour aside, you must remember that this bike is built to a budget - it is good value. The real faults are the LCD display, the skinny pegs and the fuel filler location (The tank position is good, but I'm sure the filler could be positioned so that one doesn't have to lift the pillion each time-which is a real pain).
Good video - many thanks from Devon, England!

whew... I thought you were going to sell it. Just bought mine and you are an inspiration. On the negative side my Honda dealer couldn't find a radiator guard or a skid plate in their catalogs here in the U.S. Guess that's why the Africa Twin is double the price, all the little things plus the displacement and horsepower. Couldn't afford the Africa though so I will make the best out of it.

Similar quality to my old CBR500R. the swing arm was a box section and I had to get a new chain and sprocket at 24,000 but it was locking up at about 8,000. I just tried to keep it clean and lubed till it was so bad it was getting weak and risked it snapping. Had it for 5 years but sold it recently as I want to go exploring. First stop I'm planning is Longreach and then across to Alice.

Muhahahaha I liked the ending it's epic. And I was preparing to write about some of the faults Hahahahaha great video!
Still there are good options for these faults:
Heated grips they are optional at Honda NC750x you can have it, the seat you can buy a perfect confortable seat from Top Sellerie in France, windshield higher from Puig plus deflector, Top case and rack are also Honda Optionals. Power ... it does 0-100 Km in 4.4 seconds that's not so bad...
Also the stock exhaust it's better than the scooter one 😁🤣
The Dunlop tyres are very good on the rain from my personal experience but they run fast at arround 12.000 Km in my case.
I totaly agreed with radiator protection , foot pegs, and most of the rest..

  • @cetdac3

Have done most of these too except the fork adjusters. Have had my seat re padded to little affect...lifted it up too with little affect. And put a sheepskin on seat to some affect but its still a torture instrument.
Have lowered the rear suspension which has made the handling much more sure footed along with the pilot 4s fitted which are still very good after 7k miles...

I agree with most of your points, and I have adopted pretty much the same workarounds. I disagree about the LCD display, though. I think it is very good and easy to read under any conditions (mine is the 2018 model, so it could be different). And I don't need heated grips at all, since it never gets really cold around here.

Well, I'd never watched one of your vids before, but I have just bought a 2015 NC750X, so far I'm loving it. I was thinking "the guys a dope, most bikes would need exactly the same mods", until the end of the vid that is. As for only being 190cm's tall!!!! For those of us who still relate to feet and inches, that's 74.8 inches - just under 6'3" lol. One point on the bike I have noticed is seat comfort, I need to check your other vids to see if there are any top tips regarding that. Happy riding!

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff

Phil Smith - thanks mate. Seat? I changed the seat slope (I have a video on this) and that was good enough for me. Lots of people complain about the seat comfort but I’m one of the rare ones who don’t mind it.

This is a very useful video. Regarding the windscreen that is too low and the handlebars that are too low, I think that applies only if you are over 180 cm (5'11"), which is above average. You said you are 190 cm (6'3") so you would be classed as tall. Cracking video mate!

Nowadays I don't try to make it an all day bike with heated grips and cruise, I just stop more often and the seat is breaking me in over time. Loved the video!!! I have a 2001 Honda Shadow 750 ACE it has a low seat of about 27" I am 5'11" 195lbs, and when a lot of reviewers talk about this bike they say it's great for women, or beginners I am neither, I'm 59 I cut my teeth on a CBR 6 when I was 26. Is it powerful, NO! not compared to my VFR1200, it's a cruiser people kill trying to compare to totally different bike I get the ACE to ride around town, and I got the VFR for long trips, but I have camped on both, and I have cruised on both, and when I take the ACE on the highway for camping I just install my wind shield no problems I said all to say both my bike have negatives, and positive but I will not sell neither, I just adjust!!! Following up on my ownership comments of two years ago......I purchased a 25mm lowering kit for the rear end which has made getting on / off much easier. The front end would not move a mm so had to be left. But this was a one gain two losses move. The headlight turned into a search light for aircraft and the main stand became impossible to use. The owner's handbook was useless for adjusting the headlight beam angle but UA-cam was very informative. The second issue was not fixable and also made the side stand less than safe.
Last month I fell over in car park after putting my foot down into a large pot hole. I then found the bike was too heavy to lift up on my own. I have just renewed both tyres at 11,500 miles of use from new. My Norton 961 chewed through two sets in the same time. The rear chain has been adjusted twice and may need changing soon.

The one fairly big positive you failed to mention on any of your video's is the fairing that helps protect your knee's & part of your leg's from the elements, especially if living in cooler climates-instantly noticeable. I don't like top boxes as I prefer to keep the weight low but you can get C bow pannier system from Motorcycle adventure products in Aus-easy to mount. You then have a choice of Hepco Becker soft luggage (lockable). Male C bow on your bike, female C bow on the bag's. Great system. AUD $319.00. It's slant is more towards a road bike than a adventure bike but doing what you've done with front guard extender & more versatile tyres you could do some off road with limitations. I don't know of any motorcycle on the planet that comes with hand guards, apart from maybe hard core farm bikes or off road bikes. Heated grips usually also an add on except on certain models of Triumph like the T120 Bonneville. Hope you're oxford heated grips go through a relay to protect your delicate battery. I had no problem with windscreen on NC750X I took for test ride-depends on your body height from waist. You may find those new pegs may catch on the ground if cornering hard. Centre stands mostly an extra except on Royal ENfield-they put them on as standard. At least you can fit a centre stand-I couldn't on my Ducati Scrambler.

Could not agree with you more ESPECIALLY your final point. The LCD display does have one "advantage" though; in most light conditions it acts as a mirror so you can check that I have not forgot my helmet.
For the clutch lever problem I bought a cheap pair of adjustable and collapsible levers on fleabay for £25 (added plus in being nice and shiny red like the bike). Best wishes.

C Cooper - ha! Had not thought of that advantage of the display.
I actually tried aftermarket levers but didn’t like the “feel” so went back to standard.

I agree with all your sentiments - and still think it's one of the best all-around "if you can have only one bike"... And I've ridden for over 50 years and crossed the US on Goldwings, had sport touring bikes, Kawasaki Concours, dirt bikes, etc. I commute 44 miles almost every day - and love the mileage... I can go 600 miles in a day on my older Goldwings - not so sure this bike would see me in the saddle that long... but very happy with my choice.

Glad I watched to the end to find out it was a humorous video really about some of things you can do to improve your NC. I watching thinking well most bikes don’t have long enough mudguards, most bikes don’t have radiator protection, most bikes don’t have centre stands, or heated grips, or comfortable stock seats, etc, etc. Seriously thinking about either this bike or the CB500X for my next bike. Will check out your “proper” review!

Advice needed for open question. I am doing my bike test soon on a automatic with the intention of getting a Honda nc 750 DCT. Don’t have a large budget so looking for a second hand one.
So the new 2021 year looks out of my price. What year should I go for 2014-2020 and what mileage should I be looking for.

Have watched all your vids and liked them. The NCX is good all rounder but a little too big and cumbersome for me. I have four bikes and have just moved to the West Coast of Tassie. The roads around here are unbelievable. Motorcycle Paradise. So make an effort to come over here and ride the West Coast and Tarkine region. You won’t regret it. Safe travels.

I’m really happy with mine, my height is 173cm so I have no problem at all with the wind and with my position on the bike.
The seat it is not comfortable, but from my side, only on long ride. Minimum 2 hours ride. The exhaust system is ok 👍. The tires are not good, I agree. I’ve put on mine Michelin pilot. Really happy with it. And you forgot to mention that you can store a helmet in front of the bike. I think that is really important and you don’t need a top box. 😉😉😉. Many thanks for the video 👍

  • @livelife645

Yes I have had mine for about 3 years now. Agree that the bike could have come out of factory a bit more aligned for adventure style riding. Better seat, larger fuel tank, fuel filler easier to access, better suspension front and rear. But for the money you outlay for a new bike you can add as you go. Keep the wheels turning. Cheers

About the forks, there is an aftermarket kit to replace them all and fine tune them from YSS Shocks!.... Or better yet make a quick run to Ohlins in Sweden and get them to replace the stock shocks.

  • @jkristjanvalk
    @jkristjanvalk 4 роки тому

Perhaps you'd like to do a short video of the actual faults too, just so that everyone would have this handy summary in their search results when they want one. I remember that in addition to the chain you changed wheel bearings and... was there anything else? I mean, even not actual faults but consumables that were consumed unexpectedly fast. All those low mileage reviews don't have much value but your 50000km and then hopefully soon 100000km summary would serve the public interest.

My NC750X is 4 years old and came with heated grips and top box. I have found the bike to generally be a reliable workhorse for comuting and touring. In my opinion it is a good all-rounder with some faults which unless corrected would put me off buying another.
The front forks are harsh and transmit every round bump through the handlebars.
The display is ridiculus. Most of the digits are too small to read in both daylight or the dark. It is like a modern mobile phone in having loads of features that might be of use to some people but not all. It is menu driven by two buttons. If you hold one of these buttons down for too long everything useful gets zeroed or changed. The display was actually clearer and easier to adjust on the earlier NC700 model.
I am 178cm (5' 10) tall and can only just touch the ground with both feet. I invaribly catch the passenger hump with my boot when getting on or off the bike. I can lower the back end a little but this will affect the sterring head angle. Unless Honda change the ride height I will not buy another.

Same! I traded in my '09 F800ST for a 2012 NC700XA, and never looked back. For me, the F800 was a nightmare of ownership and hideous maintenance and failure repair costs. The Honda has been 100% trouble free with zero repairs needed for 9 years now. I would buy another in a heartbeat.

Standard screen. But screen height is a very personal thing. I don’t like a screen so tall I have to look through it.
As it is, it just puts the air over my helmet when at highway speed.

🤔 I’ve been looking at one just as a commuter.
It’s 8 years old but only has 16,000 on the clock it has heated grips & guards, rear rack & box, rad guard, after market exhaust, fog lights, extended front mudguard and rear hugger, engine guards & seat modification. So a few extras for under £3,000
I may yet acquire it as it would fit my requirements.
    Thanks.

Got me. almost switched off. Own the 700x and love it with 110k km. to raise the bike front fork 1 inch extensions added. Brakes changed the brake rubber pipes to the braided kind and much better. Back seat fuel , used back seat as template and constructed an aluminium one using the same connection bolts and seperating the part over the fuel. cap to be able to get to the fuel cap but still lock it as you would normally. Added skid plate was also a life saver at times.

Hi Adrian. When you installed the handlebar risers, did you have to lengthen the brake pipe, throttle cable etc? I bought a set of risers too, but when I released the clamp and tried to lift the handlebars, it appeared as though there wasn't enough play in any of those!

Thanks for the reply on the seat mod... I’m considering moving to this. Currently ride a 2014 Yamaha FZ6R. How is the NC750X at sustained highway speeds when traveling? Flow of traffic here on interstates in Virginia, US is 80-85mph. Would it struggle at that pace? Thank you, wonderful channel!, Oh, is that the stock screen? I have that same deflector on my FZ6R in conjunction with a Puig touring screen. Check out Seat Concepts for a seat kit too, did that for my bike, excellent!
