I’ve been watching your channel for a while now. Trying to improve grades, learn to study better, and make college less stressful. After over a month of reviews and comparing I got an iPad Pro for college about 3 weeks ago. It’s tremendously helped me takes notes and organize them easier. I love being able to scan a document like my organic chemistry lab write ups and submit them with less hassle. A few colleagues have the iPad and their pencil snapped while in the charger. I’m happy with the magnetic feature this offers as even when typing this comment I can charge the pencil safely without it snapping. (Feels like a bad design on their part) I use notability like you mentioned and being able to dual screen I can copy out text and make my own single pdf study guides. I can then draw on the blank graphs for Ecology and reshape chemical equations easier. The professor and TA actually liked my notes so well he asked if he could upload them for the class to use. Really appreciate your content on this channel. It’s helped a lot having transferred to a University for my Bachelor’s.
Actually, I think there is a third group of people wanting to buy the IPad Pro. As a student, I don’t need the IPad Pro’s Power as much as I “need” the big screen. If there was an IPad Air 12.9, I would probably have chosen that one over the Pro model. Having a tablet that comes close to a Din A4 page makes it much more comfortable to read papers and work with sheets and books rather than constantly zooming in and out.

Alexander Damjanovich Actually I had the iPad 6th gen and the main reason why I sold it and went for the iPad Pro 12.9 was the extra screen real state. Split view was really uncomfortable for me, and I wear glasses as well, so seeing my notes completely zoomed out, didn’t allow me to see what I was doing as a whole in a comfortable way. So I sold my old iPad and hopefully the new iPad will arrive in a couple of weeks and I’ll come back here to share my experience. I think I wouldn’t see that much difference with an 11’ but I have a friend of mine who was the 2018 12.9’ and it’s quite easy on the eyes. Also, I decided since I was going to upgrade, I rather have the latest and most ver sítiale in order to keep it for a long time...

Hi. I’m a pro musician, I’m still using my first generation iPad Pro, I still find it incredible. No issues at all... no need for more power either. My first need is the larger screen, so I’m able to read music sheets on the stage. Also I use a music App to control tracks on my Mac. With a larger screen I can see more tracks, it;s very useful for that. Thanks for your review.
When has “need” ever been a factor in purchasing Apple tech? There are intangibles here. Most notably the pleasure the product brings me. That pleasure mitigates the rational conclusion that I already have a computer so I don’t need an iPad at all. There is the desire to explore new ways of doing things. As an IT guy,mi enjoy taking the iPad and applying it to the business of others to demonstrate that it truly is a computer in spite of Apple’s asinine commercials. I enjoy the minimalist appeal of the iPad. If need were a major issue, I’d never learn anything.

I loved the video but I still have just one side note. The improved microphones are treat for students like me to take notes on notability and record the lecture at the same time. This improvement is a real big thing for college students
When comparing differences as a review you forgot about the fact that the 2020 base model comes with double the space for the same price, wifi 6, and 6GB of RAM vs 4GB.

I have an iPad Pro 9.7”(2016 I think) and was going to upgrade this year when new iPad is introduced. I was confused....(2018 iPad Pro+Smart Keyboard +Mouse OR 2020 iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard). I am clear now. I will go with 2018 iPad Pro and when I have spare cash to burn, will buy magic Keyboard.... All I do is watch your videos, Netflix, emails and create some slides occasionally on iPad. Thanks for the great video as always Ali. You are AMAZING.... Letty poeople hate the price for features. No backlight, no usb, no menus keys, and it’s just a keyboard. The experience is good but it really should be 50-100 dollars
Frankly, the reason I ordered the IPad Pro was for the camera. I use a tablet in my work as a real estate appraiser and I need decent quality pictures with something that will take a wide-angle to better capture exterior and interior physical characteristics. The tablet is better than a phone for sketching properties on-site. I know most people don't seem to think a camera is important for a tablet if it is used for work, it is very significant, the flash is a plus as well.
Great review!! It might be “overkill” but to me that just means it’s FUTURE PROOF. Lots of exciting apps and uses to come. I use my 2015 iPad Pro to teach my high school students, run my digital art business and edit photos for clients. The 2020 iPad Pro is the first iPad to convince me that the upgrade is worth it. HUGE difference from the 2015 model. In my mind, the iPad Pro is your tech Swiss Army knife. Covers all the bases no matter what tool you need. I still use the iPad Pro 10.5in from 2017! I bought it last year refurbished for like $300. It does everything you can imagine and has never felt slow in any way..
As a heavy iPad user, I trade in my 2018 for 2020 iPad Pro .The major reason is the WiFi 6 . I don’t need a Lidar camera. Internet browsing is faster than 2018. The new iPad Pro shall be used for a at least 2 year long still powerful enough.

Another reason to get an iPad Pro is it is more future resistant. Meaning that Apple will support it longer and the specks will hold up. Edit I’m still using a 2015 iPad Pro.

8:19 I had to rewind it back like 5 times and still couldn't see how he did that lol (oh wow, come to find out he has a video on it!), but I've never used Apple products before and he is really selling it. The features are very appealing, but I wish they gone ahead and make projected keyboards installed into their ipads. Have a sensor by the camera that can detect movements, as the camera (or another type of lens) projects the keyboard. I'm not sure if they already have this but its 2020.

I bought one and have absolutely no need for the power it has but I love the size (12.9) and the fact that it’s fast, smooth, and overall an awesome machine. I financed mine through at&t pay $38 a month and it was totally freaking worth it, I love this thing. The visuals are incredible and the speakers will blow you away.
I am an artist and the iPad Pro 2018 was a worth it upgrade for the pencil - so much better than the old pencil - and the procreate (app) was able to use the power . I will probably upgrade to the new magic keyboard but not the actually iPad - apparently it will be compatible with 2018 model.
I'm considering upgrading my iPad to the 2020 version. Currently I've got the 10.5" Pro. The only thing holding me back at the moment is my concern about its rigidity: the seem to bend so easily! Would anyone be able to comment on that? Are these devices really that fragile?
meartur I upgraded from the 10.5 pro to the 2018 11 pro last summer (so almost a year now) and I have no regrets. I keep it in a hard-back, leather cover case and it’s been just fine throwing it in my backpack going to school everyday. Fragile is not a word that has ever crossed my mine when using the 11 pro. I use it everyday and it’s in great condition. Definitely recommend the upgrade

I am the music producer you were talking about. Nice to meet you! I make music tracks for clients and live work on the iPad Pro. The power and speed of the unit means I never have to wait for processing or run into CPU limitations. That’s a very good thing when using it for live gigs. When the software I use most frequently (Ableton) becomes available for iPad I suspect I won’t use a laptop very much. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Ali Abdaal Most new interfaces are class compliant. The powered camera connection kit is a must. There are so many music apps. Enjoy finding what you like for each category ie synths, keys, beats, recording, etc. If you tell me what you wish to record/play I could narrow down some suggestions.
For some people, this device will be better than a MacBook for their work flow. Why shouldn’t it cost as much as a MacBook? It certainly matches it in computing power.
Yup, but you can detatch it and you have a very light 400g/600g powerful entertinament, reading or even work device. Tablets are fantastic for some people

I disagree. As a music teacher, the ability to carry around a practically unlimited library of music and see, manipulate, and teach from a 12.9" screen is amazingly convenient. Recording content and lessons with the microphone is excellent and the camera is useful for scanning documents as well as recording content.
In the next 30 years, you wont be able to position your cursor anywhere inside a WORD except by way of a "long press" on the screen. The silliest thing. That defines Apple's capability.
I had the 2017 refurbished in 2019 and would have kept it and would have been happy. Since my father needed an iPad I sold my 10.5 to my dad and got the 2018 12.9 refurbished.

Doesn't have FCPX, but you can dowload Lumafusion for less than 40 bucks. It's not Final Cut but it's a very good alternative for the iPad. For music production, it's amazing.
My dream is that iPad Pro and I’m stuck with an iPad Air 2 2014 which is incredibly slow and laggy. First my wish was to be a pro gamer in FPS ROBLOX games with controller support. That worked, but it was too laggy. Then I forgot about gaming. Next I went to music. That didn’t even work out. So I think the iPad Pro is good for me. Also there are many more reasons why I need a iPad Pro.
Overkill...its 1000 dollars and not even in the same conversation as a macbook pro that has 32 of ram..if it had 64 ram thats overkill but it has 6 and a tb for storage...i make beats edit video and do photography and graphic design...debating if i wanna wait for the possible release this year of an ipad with an A14 chip.
Also no "REAL PRO" uses an ipad to make beats or edit film....those guys use the best available and ipad pro is laughable in hollywood and in record labels...those guys use final cut pro and premier...mpc. X and protools...not ipads

Okay so for the people who decide to eventually go for the Pro versions; 2018 256 gb for €900 or the 2020 128 GB for €950. That seems like weird pricing to me - especially since external hardware is possible (if you don't want to use the cloud).

Frankly, the reason I ordered the IPad Pro was for the camera. I use a tablet in my work as a real estate appraiser and I need decent quality pictures with something that will take a wide-angle to better capture exterior and interior physical characteristics. The tablet is better than a phone for sketching properties on-site. I know most people don't seem to think a camera is important for a tablet if it is used for work, it is very significant, the flash is a plus as well.
Great review!! It might be “overkill” but to me that just means it’s FUTURE PROOF. Lots of exciting apps and uses to come. I use my 2015 iPad Pro to teach my high school students, run my digital art business and edit photos for clients. The 2020 iPad Pro is the first iPad to convince me that the upgrade is worth it. HUGE difference from the 2015 model. In my mind, the iPad Pro is your tech Swiss Army knife. Covers all the bases no matter what tool you need. Not a music producer but feel that ‘writing’ aids my learning immensely- also trying to go as ‘paperless’ as possible!

i feel like if apple wants to push the ipad pro as the new “computer” then they should lower the price. it makes no sense that it costs almost the same as the mbp after the accessories tbh. great video!
Either that or make the cheaper iPads more functional or make the accessories cost less.
Actually the 2020 iPad Pro is the same price as the 2018 one and come with double the space (base model). So technically it went down in price

I still use the iPad Pro 10.5in from 2017! I bought it last year refurbished for like $300. It does everything you can imagine and has never felt slow in any way..

As a heavy iPad user, I trade in my 2018 for 2020 iPad Pro .The major reason is the WiFi 6 . I don’t need a Lidar camera. Internet browsing is faster than 2018. The new iPad Pro shall be used for a at least 2 year long still powerful enough.
Damn you must have a lot of spare cash to burn if you’re spending $1000 for slightly faster WiFi :P
Finally someone telling the truth: the iPad Pro 2020 is just overpowered for most ppl and no noticeable improvements!

Thanks to your review I decided to buy my iPad air and it is the best decision I have ever made I use it a lot for uni, it is just amazing.
Even though “i have a spared money to burn”.. something is telling me it’s good to have but doesn’t worth buying.. i would love to have it but at the same time it’s not a good value while i have an older ipad pro. I love using things to it full potential and i feel fulfilled when i spend on something and gain far more from it but upgrading my iPad isn’t doing that
Another reason to get an iPad Pro is it is more future resistant. Meaning that Apple will support it longer and the specks will hold up. Edit I’m still using a 2015 iPad Pro.

8:19 I had to rewind it back like 5 times and still couldn't see how he did that lol (oh wow, come to find out he has a video on it!), but I've never used Apple products before and he is really selling it. The features are very appealing, but I wish they gone ahead and make projected keyboards installed into their ipads. Have a sensor by the camera that can detect movements, as the camera (or another type of lens) projects the keyboard. I'm not sure if they already have this but its 2020.

I bought one and have absolutely no need for the power it has but I love the size (12.9) and the fact that it’s fast, smooth, and overall an awesome machine. I financed mine through at&t pay $38 a month and it was totally freaking worth it, I love this thing. The visuals are incredible and the speakers will blow you away.

I am an artist and the iPad Pro 2018 was a worth it upgrade for the pencil - so much better than the old pencil - and the procreate (app) was able to use the power . I will probably upgrade to the new magic keyboard but not the actually iPad - apparently it will be compatible with 2018 model.

I'm considering upgrading my iPad to the 2020 version. Currently I've got the 10.5" Pro. The only thing holding me back at the moment is my concern about its rigidity: the seem to bend so easily! Would anyone be able to comment on that? Are these devices really that fragile?
meartur I upgraded from the 10.5 pro to the 2018 11 pro last summer (so almost a year now) and I have no regrets. I keep it in a hard-back, leather cover case and it’s been just fine throwing it in my backpack going to school everyday. Fragile is not a word that has ever crossed my mine when using the 11 pro. I use it everyday and it’s in great condition. Definitely recommend the upgrade

I am the music producer you were talking about. Nice to meet you! I make music tracks for clients and live work on the iPad Pro. The power and speed of the unit means I never have to wait for processing or run into CPU limitations. That’s a very good thing when using it for live gigs. When the software I use most frequently (Ableton) becomes available for iPad I suspect I won’t use a laptop very much. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Ali Abdaal Most new interfaces are class compliant. The powered camera connection kit is a must. There are so many music apps. Enjoy finding what you like for each category ie synths, keys, beats, recording, etc. If you tell me what you wish to record/play I could narrow down some suggestions.
Once you add in the cost of the new keyboard it’s almost the same price as a MacBook.
Wetherby Graeme it’s more than 2k if you buy the maxed out one with all the accessories. So it’s basically more than a MacBook.
For some people, this device will be better than a MacBook for their work flow. Why shouldn’t it cost as much as a MacBook? It certainly matches it in computing power.
Yup, but you can detatch it and you have a very light 400g/600g powerful entertinament, reading or even work device. Tablets are fantastic for some people

I disagree. As a music teacher, the ability to carry around a practically unlimited library of music and see, manipulate, and teach from a 12.9" screen is amazingly convenient. Recording content and lessons with the microphone is excellent and the camera is useful for scanning documents as well as recording content.
In the next 30 years, you wont be able to position your cursor anywhere inside a WORD except by way of a "long press" on the screen. The silliest thing. That defines Apple's capability.
I had the 2017 refurbished in 2019 and would have kept it and would have been happy. Since my father needed an iPad I sold my 10.5 to my dad and got the 2018 12.9 refurbished.
Maybe if I get anything from the US stimulus package I can get a new iPad 😁
Just get the 2018 iPad pro. The 2020 is basically the same, you get the magic keyboard, and you can find it on sale almost always for $650.

Doesn't have FCPX, but you can dowload Lumafusion for less than 40 bucks. It's not Final Cut but it's a very good alternative for the iPad. For music production, it's amazing.
My dream is that iPad Pro and I’m stuck with an iPad Air 2 2014 which is incredibly slow and laggy. First my wish was to be a pro gamer in FPS ROBLOX games with controller support. That worked, but it was too laggy. Then I forgot about gaming. Next I went to music. That didn’t even work out. So I think the iPad Pro is good for me. Also there are many more reasons why I need a iPad Pro.
Overkill...its 1000 dollars and not even in the same conversation as a macbook pro that has 32 of ram..if it had 64 ram thats overkill but it has 6 and a tb for storage...i make beats edit video and do photography and graphic design...debating if i wanna wait for the possible release this year of an ipad with an A14 chip.
Also no "REAL PRO" uses an ipad to make beats or edit film....those guys use the best available and ipad pro is laughable in hollywood and in record labels...those guys use final cut pro and premier...mpc. X and protools...not ipads
And here’s me still rockin’ the 2017 IPad Pro 😆 Still one of the best things I’ve brought, I don’t see the point in upgrading if it does what you need.
