  • Siskel and Ebert reviews an American computer animated adventure comedy film from DreamWorks "Antz", starring the voices of Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, and the others in October 2, 1998. It was the first film from DreamWorks Animation, and the third feature-length computer-animated film after Disney and Pixar's "Toy Story" from 1995 and NDR Filmes's "Cassiopeia" from 1996. Both of them really enjoyed this film and they said that it has some humor, language, and social satire, which it actually more appeal for adults than children. Gene even put it on his list for one of the the best films of 1998. I agree both of them. However, I have to admit... I did watched this movie as a kid. It was scary, but it was a lot of fun. As an adult, I still enjoyed it. Thumbs up for me on "Antz".
    Antz (1998) 3/4 👍👍

"Don't follow others your whole life. Think for yourself." - Barbados
One of the best messages I ever learned as a kid was from this movie.
Also the musical score is fantastic.

At this stage you can see Gene's health deteriorate. It is sad to watch.

This movie had a lot more scale than Bug's Life - the wasps and termites are huge compared to the ants. I think people like Bug's Life more because it appeals more to kids whereas this movie has a more adult edge, but not like how shrek was. I like this movie more for its social satire

Tbh, Antz was the deeper and smarter movie. ABL is good in it's own way, but it's a bit vanilla, and in terms of the characters and story itself, it's the more unoriginal of the two (I have many reasons why I think that). But, I guess people have their own preferences at the end of the day though, and Antz is not entirely perfect either.

It's delightful entertainment for kids, follow almost same story of bug's life. I highly recommended.
    Thumbs up

True, but it was meant to be for adults ONLY. Not until kids gets older. When they grown up, they now see the film. I can't rank 3.5/4 stars or 4/4 stars that highly, because it had adult language, even it's rated PG, but I did enjoyed it when it was very funny. I really liked "Antz" as a kid. It was scary, but it was a lot of fun.

I always preferred Bug’s Life a bit more bc of the villain and visuals but Antz is still an entertaining movie.

The story is that Katzemberg stole the idea from John Lasseter (who told him he--Lasseter --- was working on A Bug's Life in 1996)

this movie is okay but i think (Unpopular opinion) a bug's life is better, still had flaws but they're both still good in their own way, not great, not perfect but still okay and fine but again, i think a bug's life was my thing.

  • @brandonsvideogamecorner7580

In Small Soldiers when you have a Barbie doll look alike being chewed up and spitted out by a lawnmower. When you have the kid and the leader of the bad guys fighting on a transformer box to see who is going to get electrocuted. When you have body parts disassembled and crawling around in the street trying to put themselves back together. That’s too intense for younger children.

And yet, of course, the public preferred the more heavily marketed and less interesting A Bug's Life.
