I agree it was very sad to see him that ill on the air. I have to say though it is pretty remarkable and inspirational that Gene stayed on the air as long as he did because he enjoyed his job so much.
Derek Ruff including writing his actual paper reviews. I’ve written a few reviews myself, that’s no easy job. I can’t imagine doing that with a brain tumor.
Siskel absolutely would have loved the Toy Story sequels, Incredibles, and Monsters Inc just to name a few Pixar movies he unfortunately didn't live to see.
There was controversy that the cocept was stolen by Jeffrey Katzenberg when he left Disney to form Dreamworks with Speilberg. He rushed production on Antz to make sure it opened before A Bugs Life.
The thing that makes A Bugs Life so great is that (and most people don't know this,) it's technically a remake of Seven Samurai. So the grown up in me loves it as much as the kid in me did.
Yup. I noticed that when it first came out -- blew my mind when I realized it. You've got the ladybug(1), caterpillar/butterfly(2), praying mantis(3), gypsy moth(4), walking stick (5), beetle (6), and the pillbug twins (I count them as 7). And Flick is the recruiter, just like in Seven Samurai (and later The Magnificent 7).
I saw Antz in theaters and completely forgot about it by the time A Bug's Life came out, and I still hold A Bug's Life among Pixar's best and by far the most underrated.
I loved both films. But did anyone notice that the Bug's Life story is basically taken from the template of Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven? They merely substituted circus performers for the samurai/gunslingers. I guess you can throw in Three Amigos in there as well.
It's a combination of Seven Samurai + the classic Aesop's Fable about the hard working ant and lazy grasshopper (the ant prepares for winter, the grasshopper is lazy and mocks the ant and eventually suffers for it)
DOMONIQUE STEWART I watched Antz as a kid and it was boring and dull! “Antz” also stole from “A Bugs Life” and because of that I have no respect for it! “A Bugs Life” is even a fun movie for an adult! I watched both as a kid,but “Bugs Life” has the better story! Even as an adult this movie is enjoyable, and it’s more memorable than “Antz” which is forgettable!
rckblzr12 I use to watch it all the time as a kid, I use to think bugs life was for girls. Obviously now I’ve grown up and love film, I appreciate both, but that was my mentality when I was a kid.
Maybe but they basically stole the idea. Way different take and an ultimately different movie. It's really funny and they beat Pixar to the punch in a way, but it also has the slightly more generic feel.
These later reviews always make me sad because you can see Genes health is starting to deteriorate.

Yup you can see it in his eyes and his slow slur speech RIP
I agree. It makes me sad. There is a weakness in his voice
3 months before he died.
Sad to watch Siskel deteriorate right in front of our eyes
Siskel absolutely would have loved the Toy Story sequels, Incredibles, and Monsters Inc just to name a few Pixar movies he unfortunately didn't live to see.
He would have absolutely loved Finding Nemo and Up.
Atleast he was spared the torture found within the disgusting films like Lightyear
I think Bug's Life holds up to this day. Remarkable since it's 23 years old.
I've been stuck on the bird level from Bugs Life PS1 for 20 years someone send help
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
@@WordUnheard lol
Pixar's underrated film.
There was controversy that the cocept was stolen by Jeffrey Katzenberg when he left Disney to form Dreamworks with Speilberg. He rushed production on Antz to make sure it opened before A Bugs Life.
Considering that you barely see or hear about Antz any more, it's obvious which one came out the victor.
@@rckblzr A Bugs Life made more $ at the box office, but frankly i havent seen or heard anything about either of them since 1998.
@@bossfan49 A Bug's Life plays somewhat frequently on Freeform. You'd be hard-pressed to see Antz on TV these days.
@@rckblzr A Bug's Life might be more well-known and popular, but Antz is - to me - the superior film.
I think A Bug’s Life is a better movie.
Saw this when I was a child haven't seen since and forgot it even existed
It’s sad how much this movie gets forgotten. It’s one of the best movies Pixar has ever made.
I'm so glad that siskel got to see 3 3D animated movies. This and toy story and antz. he got to see 2 pixar movies and 1 dreamworks movie that was 3D.
The thing that makes A Bugs Life so great is that (and most people don't know this,) it's technically a remake of Seven Samurai.

You just blew my god damn mind.

execution is the key, i suppose
I saw Antz in theaters and completely forgot about it by the time A Bug's Life came out, and I still hold A Bug's Life among Pixar's best and by far the most underrated.
This Movie Deserved better credibility
I loved both films. But did anyone notice that the Bug's Life story is basically taken from the template of Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven? They merely substituted circus performers for the samurai/gunslingers. I guess you can throw in Three Amigos in there as well.

This was the last CG movie Gene ever saw.
Funniest of all the Pixar films in my opinion.
DID SOMEBODY SAY "A BUG'S LIFE"? BECAUSE I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THAT MOVIE CALLED "ANTZ" (1998 FILM), BY THE WAY.
DOMONIQUE STEWART I watched Antz as a kid and it was boring and dull! “Antz” also stole from “A Bugs Life” and because of that I have no respect for it!

I liked this movie when I was a kid but not as much as toy story.
Great movie, I compare it to Ants & Toy story because both are bright & well-drawn pictures using animated CGI.
Brilliant, 👏 brilliant, animated feature 👏 🐛🦋🦗🌻
I kind of agree with Gene. I think Antz is better than A Bug’s Life
I Loved this movie as a kid but I haven’t seen in year’s
It's even better now
Which one made more MONEY??
I love A Bug's Life.
A bit of a forgotten film in Pixar's canon. I think perhaps it got overshadowed by Antz and Toy Story. It's okay - I liked it better than Antz.
The 2 Hungarian woodlouse are the 2 funniest characters pixar has ever created.
I love this movie.
wow
He lived to see the rise of Pixar and popularization of CGI
"Antz" has been lost to the dustbin of history while "A Bug's Life" has lived on, so what do you think of _THAT,_ Gene? _HMMM?_
Hey please watch library assistant assistant becomes savior for dog on UA-cam
Unpopular opinion, but I like Antz better
Me too 👍🏼
Antz is a much better film than a bug’s life
Antz way too self important and preachy plus woody Allen in that movie is absolutely insufferable.
Did he just say "stentence" ? God, it's sad to see Siskel in this advanced state of brain cancer.
Antz was way better than A Bug’s Life. Change my mind.
For adults. Not so much for kids.
rckblzr12 I use to watch it all the time as a kid, I use to think bugs life was for girls. Obviously now I’ve grown up and love film, I appreciate both, but that was my mentality when I was a kid.
A better script and superior cast
Yeah I love hearing woody Allen's whiny voice the whole movie

..no one beats hopper !! kevin spacey !
I love a bugs life , but i think antz is better.
A Bug’s Life & The Ant Bully r way better than Antz
