The couple that George Strait talked to before starting the song was President George Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush. Both lived in Houston after he left office, and were often at sporting events in the Astrodome, Minute Maid Park, and NRG Stadium.
As a native Texan that grew up just outside of Houston I've always loved the Astrodome... definitely my childhood home away from home. So many memories from the Dome....touched King George's bus once when me and my family saw him at the Rodeo

George Strait is known for taking brand new artist on tour. There is a long list of performers that did their first tour with him.
The family he was talking with was the ex-President George Bush. This was, of course, in Texas. I grew up in south Texas just about 25 miles away from where George Strait was born and raised. I met him 6 or 7 times BEFORE he got really famous. Went to a lot of the country dance halls where he was playing when he was getting started.

I played against Jourdanton, Runge, D'Hanis, Somerset, and a few more. Uvalde and Pleasanton were too big for us to play. Good to hear from another Texan!

Nothing there but family, friends I grew up with from birth thru high school, and then left to join the Air Force, see the world type thing. Well, I sure did that! Now, here I am living in the Philippines, and not in a million years would I have thought that would be where I lived! HUGE change, huh?

It is George HW Bush and his wife Barbara Bush. For those wondering, George was the singer who spent the last weekend of Bush’s Presidency at Camp David entertaining him in 1993 or so.
Country and Gospel, especially black Gospel music have the same roots.. A great example is the documentary (available on You Tube) "He Touched Me, the Gospel Music of Elvis Presley." It traces Elvis' roots through Mississippi and Tennessee Gospel connections and emphasizes his friendships and close relations with black churches and blues and jazz great on Beale Street.
